Then Sings My God

Winter Wonderland at Lam 2022 - Lighted Tunnel
Then Sings My God
by Michael Doyle

Dive on in and get off the fence
Live your potential, not your pretense
Go ahead and carry the burden of the cross
It's only for your gain and never your loss

Worshipping in all the iconic spaces
We touch the truth God embraces
Breathtaking as His presence draws near
We lean in to follow Bethlehem's Star

Not side-stepping or trying to get around
All the slipping situations that we've found
We must push and reach to fully understand
The holy engagements fully in their demands

Worship is the soul goal of our theology
Deserved as it is by cause of His divinity
Showing up in the better parts of everyday
Anchored in His glory, in living moments, we pray

In Jesus's name, we issue a proclamation
To follow up in full substantiation
Rising against circumstances with righteous indignation
The resolve needed needs no further explanation

We are resolved to worship in right attitude
Filled with the life service of our gratitude
Under all conditions, our light shines through
Rising to our standards in all that we do

In every moment saying yes, never refusing
To trace the heart of God and never losing
The grace given continues to remain sufficient
It revives our souls and is in no way deficient

For the future goodness of God, we remember our past
Open-ended in perspective and allowing it to last
In all ways knowing that all things are for redemption
And keeping this in our moments of deep contemplation

Rising up in our faith, believing that our God is good
Our perspective keeps us well this is it is understood
Keeping out of faces but putting ourselves in others' shoes
To keep this in mind, that they're paying their own dues

Witness what God is doing in the lives of these others
Praying for the attention of the Lord's lessons for one another
The goal is to understand our Lord better at all times
Living this out even when reaching for our ending rhymes

First Principles: Can the Liberties of A Nation Be Thought Secure When We Have Removed Their Only Firm Basis, A Conviction…That These Liberties Are the Gift of God?

“And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever.” – Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, Query 18, 1781

A Truth Told

Snowy Monverdun 202 - Remembering Simpler Times

A Truth Told
by Michael Doyle

Trapped within lies within lies
A truth illuminates under artificial skies
And the pain makes for the better man
It’s a script a believer can understand

Meant, as it is, to make us believe
Though written so carefully as to deceive
The all, the everything, that is the construct
It’s a mere illusion set to self-destruct

Every game has its own set of rules
Learn them well to win or be fools
The sooner we know this from the beginning
The sooner we can beak them and begin winning

Let’s overtax the systems in their dexterity
Overloading the paths of our own complexity
Breaking a few eggs along the way
Scrambled into the reflections based on yesterday

You thought you were clever in breaking my heart
But I knew you would do it from the very start
And the anguish that I feel leads to what is real
This then is the truth that a broken life reveals

We bring ourselves in final construction
The truth of ourselves is math of our mass destruction
However improbable, this is the answer
That feeds on our faith eating it as if a cancer

To be alive without ever really living
Is it illusory or something beyond forgiving
Frames per second are locked behind the vault
That once found can only lead to revolt

First Principles: It Should Be the Highest Ambition of Every American To Extend His Views Beyond Himself

“It should be the highest ambition of every American to extend his views beyond himself, and to bear in mind that his conduct will not only affect himself, his country, and his immediate posterity; but that its influence may be co-extensive with the world, and stamp political happiness or misery on ages yet unborn.” – George Washington (1789)

Artistic Travesty

The Monastery - Tapestry
Artistic Travesty
by Michael Doyle

Mouth breathers don't truly understand
The logic, as it were, of supply and demand
That produces things of artistic travesty
Like the weight of the world bringing me to my knees

This is a complex world in its friending
And not often enough that I get a happy ending
But there it is, into the darkness descending
All the fighting changes found in their pretending

Free will it seems, might be overrated
The way so many give in as if duly fated
To lead their lives in their redundancy
Where rational actors trip up as in conspiracy

I and you, we end up where we should never be
You and I, caught up in this hopeless travesty
We each have our job to do, or so it seems
Though we cross each other in our simple dreams

Woven with skills as we urge on to make up
Disguised as it were as another fatal breakup
Startled as we are, we walk off to quietly find
That best of us is who we have yet left behind
