Thought For the Day: There Is Not Such A Cradle of Democracy Upon the Earth As the Free Public Library, This Republic of Letters

“There is not such a cradle of democracy upon the earth as the Free Public Library, this republic of letters, where neither rank, office, nor wealth receives the slightest consideration”. -Andrew Carnegie, industrialist (1835-1919)

In the Favor of the Gods

Pine Valley Haunted Caverns - Knight's Vigilance
In the Favor of the Gods
by Michael Doyle

The gods favor those
Who do not wait
For the favor of the gods
And for those who have chose
To create their own fate
Regardless of the odds

I laid thinking so loudly
That I could not sleep
Waiting for the sun to arrive
The battle would come proudly
The blood, it would run deep
In the end, only a few would survive

Taking destiny in reins
The power flows in our hands
We will make the world our own
The glory rises in our veins
Across the forests of the lands
This ride will place a king on his throne

These are the paths come by honestly
Where at last, I know who I'm to be
We are who it is that we are
It is in our lives lived in true dignity
Hand to heart touched in our fidelity
And our truths are written on the stars

Thought For the Day: I Learned That Courage Was Not the Absence of Fear, But the Triumph Over it. The Brave Man Is Not He Who Does Feel Afraid, But He Who Conquers That Fear

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” – former South African President Nelson Mandela

First Principles: It Is A Happy Circumstance In Human Affairs That Evils Which Are Not Cured In One Way Will Cure Themselves In Some Other

“It is a happy circumstance in human affairs that evils which are not cured in one way will cure themselves in some other.” – Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Sinclair, 1791

My Business Is the Future

Athansia -Garden Under the Sea - Saragasso Glow
My Business Is the Future
by Michael Doyle

Like other dreamers
My concern isn't the present
That's for erratic schemers
And others that we grow to resent

My business is the future
Not as an oracle but as one who creates
Looking for the right things to nurture
Engaged in what it is that fascinates

It seems that past this field of schemes
There are too many shallows to wade in
With their chaotic themes
Always work to loop and then

This bed of thugs that we call humanity
Are mostly things greater beings that are of no concern
Because the history lived has been near lunacy
It's been the rare person who sees this and discerns

With the peeling of an apple, slice by slice
History needs an author to rewrite its pages
It's a screenplay off-script but held in its vice
To right this wrong quickly will take the wisest sages

Thought For the Day: Be Water, My Friend

“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.”

“Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” – Bruce Lee

First Principles: It Is Error Alone Which Needs the Support of Government. Truth Can Stand By Itself

“It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself. Subject opinion to coercion: whom will you make your inquisitors?” – Thomas Jefferson (1781)

Thought For the Day: Try Liberty; For Liberty Is An Acknowledgment of Faith in God and His Works

“And now that the legislators and do-gooders have so futilely inflicted so many systems upon society, may they finally end where they should have begun: May they reject all systems, and try liberty; for liberty is an acknowledgment of faith in God and His works.” – Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850)
