Among the First Casualties

War
Among the First Casualties
by Michael Doyle

Among the first casualties of war
Is the promise that love will live on
And if something goes wrong, lovers will love more
The white heat of passion burns until it's gone

A touch, a line, a singular trace
A lingering memory wished to embrace
Nuzzled in the comfort of memory
Until there is no more love left to be

But that was borne in heart and in mind
Reflections of hope that are left behind
Though a wounded heart cannot forget
And that is perhaps the worst regret

Lovers pretend that all will be okay
Though the void lingers to judgment day
How could the promises be forgotten
And something so pure, discarded becoming rotten

Then from that day that love disappears
At least on the surface and repeated in fears
A mustache won't hide these kinds of scars
That leave broken hearts fallen with the stars

First Principles: Man, Once Surrendering His Reason, Has No Remaining Guard Against Absurdities The Most Monstrous

“Man, once surrendering his reason, has no remaining guard against absurdities the most monstrous, and like a ship without rudder, is the sport of every wind. With such persons, gullibility, which they call faith, takes the helm from the hand of reason and the mind becomes a wreck.”– Thomas Jefferson (1822

A Morning’s Meditation

Shangdu - Meditation On An Eternal Flame

A Morning’s Meditation
by Michael Doyle

As in the beginning it is now
As it will ever be yet somehow
Though dead in sense from sin
If Christ is in us, we are born again

Through the spirit living in each
We are risen again as we teach
Blessed then in our redemption
Worthy as such in our contemplation

In a sacred sign of our salvation
We become one in some explanation
The prophets give in passing ages
Along with the wisdom of the sages

Abraham’s oath lives on without fear
But in hope that we may persevere
We stand firm in our upright holiness
Through the bottomless mercy of bliss

Taken from darkness into the light
We live as instruments of what is right
Bringing hope even from despair
And covering hate with love everywhere

As consolers from this world’s grief
We love with compassion and relief
For it is in giving that we receive
As we walk in the light and do not deceive

We meet all in our path at point of need
Doing our best as the scriptures read
Starting the day in prayer and meditation
Is the way of the Lord in its contemplation

Thought For the Day: One Day Work Is Hard, and Another Day It Is Easy; But If I Had Waited For Inspiration I Am Afraid I Should Have Done Nothing

“One day work is hard, and another day it is easy; but if I had waited for inspiration I am afraid I should have done nothing. The miner does not sit at the top of the shaft waiting for the coal to come bubbling up to the surface. One must go deep down, and work out every vein carefully.” – Arthur Sullivan, composer (13 May 1842-1900

El Shaddai

House of Prayer - Names of God

El Shaddai
by Michael Doyle

He is my refuge of my safety
In how I put my trust in thee
Keeping my peace and trust
In He who is always just

El Shaddai quietly advances
In all of life’s circumstances
All of the world makes us tired
But His love makes us inspired

To have the strength that we need
In your Holy words that we read
As it is from the heavens above
We walk your walk in sacred love

Standing tall like our fortress
You are the Lord of the wilderness

First Principles: Judges Minds Should Not Be Distracted With Jarring Interests; They Should Not Be Dependent Upon Any Man, Or Body of Men

“[Judges’] minds should not be distracted with jarring interests; they should not be dependent upon any man, or body of men.” – John Adams (1776)

Turning to violence and threats to impose the will of some over a majority of others is not the path of our republic. This is indeed mob rule and strongly opposed by the Founders of our nation.
