Thought For the Day: If Knowledge Can Create Problems, It Is Not Through Ignorance That We Can Solve Them

First Principles: Ambition Must Be Made To Counteract Ambition

“Ambition must be made to counteract ambition. The interest of the man must be connected with the constitutional rights of the place. It may be a reflection on human nature that such devices should be necessary to control the abuses of government. What is government itself but the greatest of all reflections on human nature?” – James Madison (1788)

Starting Each Day In Devotion

Mni Wiconi - Ultimate Sunrise

Starting Each Day In Devotion
by Michael Doyle

Starting every day the right way
Brings about a good sort of day
Knowing that wherever we go
God follows us as if our best shadow

No matter what comes as we scatter
Our attention to the way days shatter
Through to bring challenges that play
Let’s start it right through devotion and pray

There is a power in starting off right
Starting a little early to awaken from night
Getting ahead of the game and be deliberate
In making your day all the more sedate

Fill your mind with music and praise everyday
With your attention set on what is a godly way
The day is felt as it is lived empowered in good
If you are to live as you ought and should

In the morning, we can rest in the Lord’s voice
When we greet each day by making this choice
Love declared in prayer there in that devotion
The brings us hope and raises our emotion

Surrendering as we will to living in the Lord’s way
There is not greater presence to start each day
Find time in the significance of what matters most
And give over to the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost

All the problems of our busyness put before
The feet of our God in whom we worship and adore
Getting the start of a new day to be seen
As we count on the Lord to be our best human being

Thought For the Day: Let the World Know You As You Are, Not As You Think You Should Be, Because Sooner Or Later, If You Are Posing, You Will Forget the Pose, and Then Where Are You?

“Let the world know you as you are, not as you think you should be, because sooner or later, if you are posing, you will forget the pose, and then where are you?” -Fanny Brice, entertainer (29 Oct 1891-1951)

Bumping Into Jesus

Contestants Bumper Cars GIF by Miss America
Bumping Into Jesus
by Michael Doyle

Divine encounters along the way
It doesn't necessarily happen on Sunday
Little moments that teach us
Put on as these are to reach us

Bumps on the road have their distraction
The way through gives the best traction
Each moment is given to teach us
Little moments of goodness just to reach us

Jesus works best in us by invitation
Gentlemanly refusing to make invasion
He needs to be brought into our hearts
But once there, he'll never depart

When the hour comes, it will bring glory
It is the greatest part of this true story
Making our humble water into purest wine
Sparking the ordinary into the divine

That which brings the most glorifying
Can seem at times to come as the more horrifying
Infused with what might seem the Cross
Bringing victory out of what seems to be loss

A view taken somehow tragic and incorrectly
Should be taken as each fragment distinctly
Each coming as a teaching moment of their own
Led by Jesus at our side and not on His throne

When we cannot feel the trace of God's hand
And we are certain we cannot possibly understand
Let's take hold at the moment of God's hand
Time has shown faithfulness leads to the promised land

Whatever might be our belied sort of preference
God's Word and ways conducts us by its experience
Let's stop jumping to what seems to be our conclusion
When life strikes for clarity in our blinding confusion

God pulls for the best things crushing into purity
While pulling away the rough edges of our insecurity
In light of our own set of surrendered to circumstances
Let's find the purpose in trust not perceptions of chance

Thought For the Day: Humanity Also Needs Dreamers

“Humanity also needs dreamers, for whom the disinterested development of an enterprise is so captivating that it becomes impossible for them to devote their care to their own material profit. Without doubt, these dreamers do not deserve wealth, because they do not desire it. Even so, a well-organized society should assure to such workers the efficient means of accomplishing their task, in a life freed from material care and freely consecrated to research.” -Marie Curie, scientist, Nobel laureate (7 Nov 1867-1934)
