First Principles: If the Federal Government Should Overpass the Just Bounds of Its Authority and Make A Tyrannical Use of Its powers, the People,…Must Appeal to the Standard They Have Formed

“If the federal government should overpass the just bounds of its authority and make a tyrannical use of its powers, the people, whose creature it is, must appeal to the standard they have formed, and take such measures to redress the injury done to the Constitution as the exigency may suggest and prudence justify.” – Alexander Hamilton (1788)

Lessons In Life’s Suffering

Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve - Sycamore Land Trust
Lessons In Life's Suffering
by Michael Doyle

Spring isn't the same
When love has been lost
Sorrow calls out the name
But refuses to pay the cost

The thing held sacred as folly
Touch the inner workings of the soul
A moment away from devotion
Has the depth of the ocean

Waking each day perchance to see
That God has brought new meaning
Bathed as it is in the dim light of mystery
That hides within each human's being

Tales of Ossian are deeply morose
And yet though romantic are but lies
In need of some truth bent to propose
On fallen knee and clings to forlorn eyes

The decision being made even as it reveals
All of the matters of finality have been shown
Taking care of each of the smallest details
The click-bang of matchlock pistols makes mortality known

Mother Mary is all of your infinite femininity
What might you be able to teach me of divinity
Can you but save the best bits of my perishing soul
Wrecked and weak as it is lost without control

Young lovers' serious passions make us all we feel
Yet, it is time as tyrant that chooses to reveal
That when it seems circumstances cannot get any worse
The poet's pen puts some small hope to scribbled verse

Perspective Revisited

Exhalt - Balloon Ride Over Blue Mountain Peaks
Perspective Revisited
by Michael Doyle

Float to the top
Or sink to the bottom
The rest is just churn
This is a lesson in life
One that is usually earned
It's our decision in how we learn

Everyone dreams, big and wide
Of being the other's hero
But, no one really saves anyone
These are the secrets that we hide
Pretending to be more than zero
Foot in front of foot until we're done

From on top of the mountain, it's all down
Gazing through a clouded view
It changes a man's perspective
Not longer concerned with hat or crown
But focused on what he must do
It's times like these, we are most reflective

Thought For the Day: If We Had No Winter, the Spring Would Not Be So Pleasant. If We Did Not Sometimes Taste of Adversity, Prosperity Would Not Be So Welcome
