Na/GloPoWriMo #11: Letters From Father To Daughter

Sacred Ground - Memorial Day - Occupation GI Blues
Na/GloPoWriMo #11: Letters From Father To Daughter
by Michael Doyle

Dearest Daughter,
I didn't know I would be a father
When I took the chances that I did
And I've always tried to keep it hid

I see your eyes of confusion
Between truth and illusion
And, yes, they called me a hero
But sometimes, I feel less than zero

Please pardon my composure
But, I have dreamed that chemical exposure
Would wipe out my system's immunity
Or, that one day, I'd have a family

I am sorry for the times, I'm not there
In my heart, you are always near
And though it less to revere
I want your world to be less to fear

I am so proud to be your father
And to know you are my youngest daughter
I can hardly wait til the time I hold your hand
But until then, I understand

Love,

Daddy

Dear Father,
I am your youngest daughter
I may not say it a lot
But, it's not easily forgot

All of the stories I've heard of you
Half whispers about all you do
And all of those things you once did
Not sure who you're fooling; it's not hid

I am a lot like the best of you
And I am proud of all that you do
I may not say this every day
But, I love you in every way

I lay awake listening to you play guitar
In my heart, you are a star
And when you make me laugh out of control
It's times like these, you touch my soul

And Dad, you really need to know
I love you more than I dare show
That Covid shot scared me, please survive
I really need you to please stay alive

Love,

Your Daughter

Dearest Daughter,

You are my hero...
love,
Dad

Na/GloPoWriMo #10: On Bended Knee

It has been a while...
Na/GloPoWriMo #10: On Bended Knee
by Michael Doyle

There much stronger in its place
Hidden behind such a pretty face
Is a heart that beats stronger yet
And a love that I will never forget

Though my heart is oft a deceiver
I am blessed that you are a believer
The cross you bear upon your chain
Is the one of truth and not in vain

I know this as much as I know myself
Clearer than all books on their shelf
That around your neck is your confession
To this I make my faithful concession

On bended knee, I give my heart to thee
For the truth of you goes beyond what I see
Hold me closer as the night closes in
And let my love for you be the worse of my sin

For you are truly the very best of me
If I am to speak this in all honesty
It is my prayer that at the end of my life
I will look into your eyes, my dear wife

Na/GloPoWriMo #9: The Covid Vaccination To Do List

Pozciti Polska - Novel Coonavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic
Na/GloPoWriMo #9: The Covid Vaccination To Do List
by Michael Doyle

It's spreading out
Across this nation
I've had my doubts
But, time for the second vaccination

That then is list one
And now that it is done
It's time for second up
Since I've drunk this winning cup

After a bit of a wait
It is time to coordinate
A long drive up to Michigan lake
For a long walk and visual take

I promised my girls to survive
And it's time and I am alive
List item...set at two
An abandoned theater and lakeside view

Item up as number three
And maybe it is just for me
But to let them always truly know
I love them from the word 'go'

Then again, that was also item one
And only forgotten as it is already done
As I sit here in the waiting room
My heart lifting from its gloom

Item four: lunch with the two of them
As I sit here with almost no symptoms
Every moment has its own celebration
Greeted with this sailor's fascination

Item Five: Take that final examination
After a long day spent post vaccination
Taking in all the reasons for relief
With no immune system, thankful there is no grief

Just the feeling of satisfaction
That I have taken all needed action
To do my part and to do my duty
Now, it's time to appreciate life's beauty

Na/GloPoWriMo #8: The Jester’s Crown

East Meets West
Na/GloPoWriMo #8: The Jester's Crown
by Michael Doyle

This poem is for all who gathered
That might have been better tarred and feathered
For all of those unfazed by the many storms
That make up all of life's norms

In the beginning, I knew there'd be an end
But in the in-between, I swore to be a friend
Someone of the somebodies on whom all could depend
And to never have to payback the given of the lend

Spending my time so complete and happily
There in the dankness of the vagabond's company
But, happier still to be with my family
All helped to pass the time more than amply

Some might have thought mine a silent life
Because I toasted the good cheer so rife
Rather than spend my moments far too few
On complaints that would never mend or do

This Heaven is pouring it out cold and hard
But, I have one more dance to play this card
As I invite all to join in a simple man's hoe-down
Where none are too serious to wear the jester's crown
