Promises Meant To Keep

Finally got to watch the redo of The Lion King.  I have to say that I don’t know if it’s the passing of time or what, but, watching this again was just wonderful.  I really enjoyed the show very much.

A Voyage To Africa - Sunset of A Lion Kinged

Promises Meant To Keep
by Michael Doyle

Sunset on the African plain
Where each day proves life is not in vain
New life begins with all of its ritual
All of this magic seemingly habitual

A birth announced on a canyon rim
Sunbeams light their blessing on him
As all of life is held in reverence
The certainty of this being divine in preference

From smallest to biggest, life is as we share
The feelings of fairness, love and care
Begging for a walk on bit of a part
Printed as it is in the middle of every sacred heart

Slipped minds feign at giving respect
There's protocol challenged in its neglect
Fireflies light the evening's sky
As the gods whisper their reply

Calling on falling stars of tomorrow
Where happiness is lived beyond sorrow
As youth wakes, their parents sleep
And we parents see the promises meant to keep

First Principles: Let Each Citizen Remember At the Moment He Is Offering His Vote … That He Is Executing One of the Most Solemn Trusts In Human Society

“Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual – or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country.” – Samuel Adams (1781)

Around Every Corner

As I was driving down the eastern terminus of the Old National Road, it occurred to me…

Around Every Corner
by Michael Doyle

Around every corner
There is a story
Down every street
Hiding from its glory

Just a bit of
Getting through and by
Lost and found love
Flown over or driven by

Hidden behind gates
Or on the road side
Twist of luck and fate
Full of nothing but full of pride

There's at story for the telling
Spoken in the voice of you and me
Waiting for its moment of revealing
Mumbled out with stumbled pout to see

That around every corner
There is an untold story
Driven down the street
Be it in the garden or in the quarry

It's waiting to be built
Up enough with a careless word toss
It's in the hand that's dealt
There's a gain in every loss

Last Chance

Life goes on despite having someone mouth off doesn’t it?

True Grit At Eiteljorg

Last Chance
by Michael Doyle

Tell me now,
Do you have the cognizance
That you might somehow
Understand the fruits of consequence

And when God speaks to you
Dropped like a ton of bricks
What language does He use for you
Or, are you just agitated by a thousand pinpricks

As you signed your name
Walking right over top of me
The seeds you've sown will leave you lame
That's putting it politely

In all of your patent insanity
Displayed by your own hand
Drawn into nothing less than your vanity
It's become easy to understand

That your indiscretions are widely known
But mostly known by God above
Your true self is long since revealed as shown
So stop pretending you know anything of love

I have left you stone cold and away
For you to make your own path
Those that know me best care little for what you say
One plus one is not too complex of math

Don't forget that I know who you are
Or how I prayed for you and stayed for you
Going so far as to create in you a star
So, instead of lies, perhaps you should tell things true

Have you realized yet how far you've gone
That you're hurting others with your games
It's to the point that I won't allow it to go on
Enough of your lies and calling me names

You have confessed you do this out of sheer hate
You are on record acknowledging your bed of lies
So stop please before it's way too late
And there's a judge looking straight into your eyes

Greedy ways sometimes gets the very best
And you, my former friend, have failed the test
Life is not to be play as if it's a game
And when you lose, it's only yourself to blame

Last chance...
