Holding Hands With the Sun

Falling in love with art is an intimate construction within ourselves expressed both outwardly and inwardly.

Peaceheaven - Sunflower Mixed

Holding Hands With the Sun
by Michael Doyle

An experience of the narrative
Doodles swirled in declarative
Filling out the feels
An imaginative look reel by reel

Seeing things in the abstraction
All of the noise that provides distraction
Scrawling reveal the fantasy
Becoming ever clearer to you and me

Busily turning thinking into doing
Advocacy is exquisite in its moving
Melting glaciers make the points
In voices true enough to anoint

Life lived in glacial movement
Where what we need is improvement
Too simple in it's simplicity
Are the chosen moments of our complicity

Breaking off in our reflection
Are the things that escape detection
Until we look hard enough to see
Present in the explicitness of reality

Holding hands with the sun
Remembering the world as if we are one
Darkness is overcome by light
Looking for the positive in our sight

Here at the bottom of our hope
Is humanity strung along its rope
This is seen in our mirrored construction
In secrets told that speak our destruction

Quietly the unknown poet ranted
Life is too precious to be taken for granted
We are not lost in the after all
As the world awakes and heeds the call

The Wolf Knows Its Howl

Enforced surveillance and censorship of the creative mind, particularly by oppressive government is nothing short of a crime against humanity.

Midnight Dreams - Howling Wolf Seerenade

The Wolf Knows Its Howl
by Michael Doyle

When a writer must be brave
To memorize just to save
The words inside their heart
A new sort of world finds its start

The poisoned tongue of pessimism
Finds its unfettered opportunism
In hiding in lesser known shadow
Believing it a place authorities won't go

It's over, the days we'd fight
For our scraps of truth to come to light
Stifled into the crevices of the night
Though our consciences know it's not right

The powerful control our education
Through this, culture finds its eradication
Too many have been turned to sheep
As the surveillance state watches us sleep

To put ink to paper is our unmasking
In a darkened world ready for the undertaking
When we arrive at living just to die
The artist and the poet choke down their cry

The bitterness of man's winter closes in
As we labor to become free again
God alone knows all as we heed his call
Watching as civilization around us falls

First Principles: A Love of Truth and A Veneration of Virtue Are the Latent Spark For People Capable of Understanding

“Human nature itself is evermore an advocate for liberty. There is also in human nature a resentment of injury, and indignation against wrong. A love of truth and a veneration of virtue. These amiable passions, are the “latent spark”… If the people are capable of understanding, seeing and feeling the differences between true and false, right and wrong, virtue and vice, to what better principle can the friends of mankind apply than to the sense of this difference?” – John Adams, in Novanglus Essay Number 1 (1775)

Renewal of Vows

Dedicated to my best friend and lady, Desiree:

Home, Sweet, Home - Hammock Meeting of the Minds

Renewal of Vows
by Michael Doyle

Emotionally connected
Physically dedicated
The feelings run deep
Knowing love is for keeps

Talking points of love
Have me thinking of
What it takes to make us
Maybe just because

I never want to lose you
And I love all the things you do
Is it too much to say
I need you in every way

What I was looking for
I've found and so much more
I hope it makes sense
This feeling is intense

It's like a fairytale
Overpowering in how it feels
I want to wake up next to you
Waking from a dream to a dream; it's true

Manuscripts Don’t Burn

Day 22 of NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo 2020!  The optional prompt being to use an idiomatic phrase from another language or popular in another country as a starting point.

LEA25: The Labyrinth Experience - Hidden Fear Rules the World

Manuscripts Don't Burn
by Michael Doyle

Years ago when I was younger
Words ate at me with my own hunger
Certain that I had something to say
If only I might find the right way

For most of my younger days it felt right
Certain as I was to play at it light
Putting the words in the pocket of a song
Feeling the beat to where each might belong

Sometimes I would write stories too
Often meant to provide a sense of view
Learning that some felt some thought was not allowed
I wondered what it might be to be too proud

Living in a county where to tell a tale
Might end you up dead or land you in jail
Ideas belong in thought's marketplace
Freedom of press and all, I did embrace

Oh now, there's a precocious sentiment
That satire could be dangerous to government
Or even if it was just a bit stronger
Who'd have thought these notions held longer

That a person might not feel as they do
And if they did they shouldn't put out their view
How odd it was I thought as I held a new edition
That fear of rulers could enforce oral tradition

Committing their concepts to their memory
Leaving nothing written down as their legacy
I could just feel the frustration of tears
And even more now as my memory goes with my years

Sudden Comfort of Intimacy

There is a certain joy in a young girl’s heart whose imagination overflows into a comfort that is hard to define and amazing to experience.

Tyraina - A Mother Gives Comfort In the Storm

Sudden Comfort of Intimacy
by Michael Doyle

You cannot buy loyalty
Set at the table like family
A heart races like a train
Ever forward against the strain

Imagination is sometimes best
When life puts you to the test
Suffered in full indignity
Pulse raising in anxiety

Caught up in the living
We rise above the ordinary giving
Approving of who we are
Even while wishing on that proverbial star

Bursting with curiousity
Looking at the world wistfully
There is so much to know
As each new day ebbs and flows

The tale teller has a tongue
Of her own; With ears of spirit song
Ecstatic beyond on all measure
Each turned moment, its own treasure

As an endless stream of words flow
A daughter becomes a friend as she grows
These things looked forward too in anticipation
All the comings and goings of imagination

There in the never so much minding
Is to speak of a lifetime until finding
The heart open to be set free
In the sudden comfort of intimacy

The Art Garden Was Swinging

Day 21 of Na/GloPoWriMo  2020, has the optional prompt of taking a bit of poetry in a foreign language and based on the sound of the lines themselves attempting to write a poem of some sort even if it becomes nonsense.  I fear that Dutch sounds elude me.  Still here’s my attempt:

The Rusty Nail - Spring Garden Wrought Cycle

The Art Garden Was Swinging
by Michael Doyle

http://www.derecensent.nl/pivot/entry.php?id=653
Second column abstract

---

Becomes this feeble attempt:

Rock was as it can be lost in valleys of dizzy zones.

We had the rockers tonight, hop in the garden
Fitting as they ate taffy and jelly
Wondering still pretending to rock

Walking in their own gangs
Mirroring attitudes of winks
When the door of rock is the start
Onward in travel to seeing kittens
The thing is to reopen

Then the hotel workers won't tell
What they could tell
At the track

The Met and the art garden were swinging
