Seeing To See

What if God walked among us today?  What if wasn’t if?  He does…

House of Prayer - Two Joined As One Before Our Father

Seeing To See
by Michael Doyle

So that seeing
They may not see
In the being
Of supreme divinity

A look into His eyes
May bring grace
Just to recognize
And to embrace

All of kindness
We have known
Erases the blindness
Of harshness shown

It's the nature of God
To be all around
No matter how odd
Or confusing, He will be found

In times of trouble and plenty
He is always there
Filling hearts once empty
With love and not fear

Spreading miracles everywhere
As we look for hope beyond reason
In answers to our prayers
With a desire beyond all season

First Principles: Political Parties May Answer Popular Ends But With the Course of Time Allow Unprincipled Persons To Usurp the Reins of Government

However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion….The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism.” – George Washington (Farewell Address, September 17, 1796)

In a nutshell, look at the way the Democratic party has been acting with increasing lawlessness.  Due to a road trip, I’m about to embark on, I will just wish Senator Hawley’s efforts at censuring Senator Schumer for his overt threats toward two of our Supreme Court Justices well.  With almost all certainty, if a Republican senator had said these things that senator would not only be censured but out of a job.   It’s shameful and disgraceful that a man entrusted with such a position would act in this manner.  More later…

Game of Hearts

Some say the grass is always greener.  I don’t.

Indiana State Museum and Eiteljorg 01192020

Game of Hearts
by Michael Doyle

Don't make my heart
Into another game of homes
Or, you'll soon see me depart
I'd rather just be alone

I've seen the trades made
Always looking for something better
So quick at letting connections fade
Please don't play at being together

Always been warned off strangers
Risking all despite the danger
Your words and actions cause me fear
As to how quickly you will disappear

I know my worth even if you don't
Don't play that you will when you won't
I don't want to be your just pretend
I want your real love until the end

Don't play my heart
Into another of your game of homes
Or, you'll soon see me depart
I'd rather just be alone

First Principles: A Universal Peace Only Exists In the Imagination of Visionary Philosophers and Breasts of Benevolent Enthusiasts

“A universal peace … is in the catalogue of events, which will never exist but in the imaginations of visionary philosophers, or in the breasts of benevolent enthusiasts.” – James Madison (1792)

Two seemingly contradictory statements.  Yet, we find the proof of these in the actions of the Taliban.  Within 100 hours of their leaders’ signatures affixed to peace terms, the Taliban reloaded and have gone back to fighting.  Perhaps these folks have nothing better to do?

What is definitely proven up is the necessity that the US keeps itself in a state of constant readiness and being willing to fight where and when necessary.  The other option is unacceptable – the loss of what we are as a nation and our role in God’s greater plan as the beacon of hope, freedom and liberty.

If we’r looking for the cause this time around, it rests on Taliban leader Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada on the main.  But, it also rests on those who thought we should stick around once our mission was accomplished and wanted to build a type of nation-state that Afghanistan has never been.   The resumption of hostilities is based on the demand for the immediate release of 5000 hardened Talibanists coupled with attacks on our Afghani ally.  In response we have release defensive airstrikes in Akhundzada’s stronghold in Helmand province.   There was literally very little choice but do fire this warning shot across their bow.

In considering these events, please do recall that President Trump has sought to find a way out from this conflict and the one in Iraq.  This extrication like the above quote are far more complicated than their surface contradiction suggests.  What is clear, extremely clear is that we have no definition of what victory is beyond removing the clear and once present threats that existed in both nations.  That we should have kept to the original plans.

But once again our better nature and hopeful optimism sought to leave these places better than we found them.  Perhaps this simply isn’t possible?  Perhaps it’s time we stop giving up our blood and treasure for peoples who do not wish for peace as we so urgently and deeply do.

Mission creep did exactly that and now perhaps it’s becoming clear that as President Trump campaigned on, it’s time to beat those swords into plowshare.  If not there, at least for the United States.  But even as we do, if we can, we must always keep the weary eye of vigilance open and ourselves prepared to do what we must.

Leaving Yesterdays Behind

What matters profit if it has cost your soul?

Unicorn Horn Harbor - Storm Tossed Wreck

Leaving Yesterdays Behind
by Michael Doyle

What it is that seems fit
Is often enough a matter
Devoted entirely to profit
All other arguments shatter

The implication is clear
That neither reason nor morality
Matter so much in the near
Than sheer payment of mutuality

Money speaks louder than the shame
Convincing as it is to nearly all
Nobody is really truly to blame
When a full pocket comes to call

It stops at nothing short of vanity
In a small purchased vindication
Love of money often breeds insanity
Or, at least there is every indication

Everyone wants their place at the table
Of proving up the surface of their quality
And they'll scratch their way there if able
All in the name of feigned notoriety

There are secret gardens we've tended
Between all the mistakes we've made
There are so many fences yet mended
As a pirate hides out in the shade

The impossible is often most inevitable
Despite all the obstacles in the way
Every pirate knows we are the most capable
To do what we must to simply sail away

Cutting quick to the depth of cost
That pries inside the empty of our minds
To pay our plunder we've already lost
And leave our yesterdays behind

God From Machine

We live in interestingly troubled times.

Black Opal - Compass Rose

God From Machine
by Michael Doyle

In the spiraled stairs leading to the future
Is a universal fate we must embrace and nurture
Asking who is worthy to be given and receive
The truth of and in humanity, we must not deceive

The wealthy, it is said, must give to the poor
Until the hurting heal and hurt no more
This is said to be the secret of Pandora's cure
But, is false hope truly capable of being pure

The risen have and never will truly fall
It in a bit of metaphor of treason we recall
Paradise lost and regained processed in connectivity
If only we, so tragically human, bypass the reactivity

Of an old and lost generation caught in the past
Desperately clinging to what will not last
It is a one way ticket we have no will to drive
But, the only way we get out even close to alive

There in the squared root sliced from infinite Pi
That tragically finds itself choked out on its reply
There we find the super fluid coaxed into our infinity
Gravitationally pulled into our volatile eternity

God, it seems, will be born again from machine
Or, at least that seems the post-modern dream
Ambition calls and makes whores of us all
As we answer heeding our chosen master's call

We look dismayed and we realize to be strong
Is to know and accept we're all kind of very wrong
Stepping back we cage this white elephant into its night
Baring to the truth as it remains blinded by the light

Dead Men and Their Tales

Even Al Capone thought of himself as a public servant…

Mystic Falls - Pirate Sails the Foggy Main

Dead Men and Their Tales
by Michael Doyle

It is strange so it seems
Clinging to faraway dreams
Thoughts stuffed inside my head
Dedicated to a father long since dead

But, here I am still wanting him proud
To hear his praises that were never allowed
Despite all the legends and the story
There was never enough to bring him glory

At the end, all pirates swing in the noose
Whisper the rumors from lips that are loose
That at the end, all pirates swing in the noose
Whisper the rumors from lips that are loose

I had hoped to get wiser with passing age
Reading every book and listening to every sage
But, here I am still chomping at mystery
Repeating myself and circling my own history

Endlessly looped inside my meditation
Darkened by a soul's frightened contemplation
All the things that I might have been
Had I not followed my pleasures in sin

At the end, all pirates swing in the noose
Whisper the rumors from lips that are loose
That at the end, all pirates swing in the noose
Whisper the rumors from lips that are loose

Staring out from my harkened bits of shadow
I have to admire my self imposed gallows
It seems perhaps the end draws ever near
And, if so, I will gladly meet it with cheer

This is my lot cast and drawn into path
I mutter as I calculate silently doing math
Oh my father, dear, it appears you are right
And I will tell you myself long before night

At the end, all pirates swing in the noose
Whisper the rumors from lips that are loose
That at the end, all pirates swing in a noose
Whisper the rumors from lips that are loose
