Thought For Today: There Can Be No Public Or Private Virtue Unless the Foundation of Action Is the Practice of Truth

“There can be no public or private virtue unless the foundation of action is the practice of truth.” – George Jacob Holyoake (1817-1906)

I disagree with most of what this man stood for without some compromise of his root beliefs and agitation.   But, I do believe that the foundation of all rightful action is the truth.

First Principles: It Is the Duty of All Nations To Acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, To Obey His Will, To be Grateful For His Benefits and Humbly Implore His Favor

Mount Waddington’s Fang

December 11th is International Mountain Day!! So you know.. don’t go fly a kite.. there’s gotta be a kite day right?  Instead maybe either really climb a mountain or dream about doing that?

Mount Waddington's Fang
by Michael Romani

Extreme relief and spectacular scenery
Not so much for its resplendent greenery
But round this mountain of spoken mystery
There is much awe inspiring and legendary

It's maw is deeper than the Grand Canyon
With an expanse that stretches on and on
Often compared to a Himalayan relief
This is a place of sacred beauty's belief

From the distance, it's white crowned peak
Is surely worth the journey to quietly seek
It's somewhere there beyond the first snow drift
And cozied into the cotton candy cloud rift

It's far off finger beckons to our destiny
This British Columbian mountain of mystery
Offers to all climbers it's majestic embrace
Written across it's dramatically chiseled face

With pen to parchment, the dreamers tell the tale
Of this mountain queen whose conquest would prevail
In many the adventuring soul's rugged bit of heart
Just waiting to climb to heights from bottom's start

Her allure tugs deeply in the hearts in sharp descent
The many weary travelers who dream the summit's ascent
Push the limits of reason and caution this is agreed
And still the mountaineers will always choose to proceed

In Preparation For Journey

Another poem from the sermons on the dock series:

In Preparation For Journey
by Michael Romani

In the preparation for journey
There are steps meant for me
Putting my house in order is right
As I approach Heaven's light

To get my life close to right
Righteousness must be clung tight
It's wise you know to plan for death
Before the drawing of one's last breath

If you have taken this into action
In your ending days there is satisfaction
In knowing just what you pass along
And that all the part are where these belong

Every Christian knows of coming home
And that their place is engraved in the stone
The stone of Heaven's very foundation
And in this, we find our hope and inspiration

First Principles: Practice Virtue In Yourself and Encourage It In Others

“Righteousness alone can exalt [America] as a nation. Reader! Whoever thou art, remember this; and in thy sphere practice virtue thyself, and encourage it in others… [T]he great pillars of all government and of social life: I mean virtue, morality, and religion. This is the armor, my friend, and this alone, that renders us invincible.” – Patrick Henry

Thought For the Day: Everything You Add To the Truth, Substracts From the Truth

“Everything you add to the truth subtracts from the truth.” – Alexander Solzhenitsyn, novelist, Nobel laureate (11 Dec 1918-2008)

This why a person should be very careful around such things as A Course In Miracles that purports to be a report of an interview with Jesus and states such things as we are coequals with God.  We are not; nor shall we ever be.  It’s as though a drop of salt water says it’s the ocean simply because it exists within the ocean…. and doesn’t realize that both are created and not the creator….

In These Days of Advent

Tis Advent season…

Tis Advent Season
by Michael Romani

In these days of certain locus
It is a time of spiritual focus
We need to celebrate and worship
Spending time in relationship

Finding the time for sweet devotion
Through God we collect our emotions
Connecting in this sacred season
We are sustained by Godly reason

Let's take a few minutes for quiet time
Focusing our hearts on the sublime
Calming our minds and our hearts
Glorifying God as from the very start

Soothing words guide us to God's presence
Some of the best of the best of our presents
Knowing that God is the creator of everything
And that is sufficient for the joy that it brings

Just A Bit of Near Christmas Cheer

Happiest of National Lager Days 2019!*  That’s right, someone thought enough of lager to make December 10th, it’s special day!  So in keeping on keeping on….

Just A Bit of Near Christmas Cheer
by Michael Romani

It was getting to be that time of year
He was out looking for some kinda Christmas cheer
He walked in wearing a smile and in full swagger
Ordering himself a Christmas lager

Humming to himself sitting tapping yet so quietly
He put a smile on his face for the sake of propriety
Thinking... come again, come again to Christmas cheer
Twelve ounce curls bore a smile from sipping his beer

It started with a smiled bit of holiday Christmas melody
Until note after note it became a crescendo of rhapsody
The bartender laughed and reminded him not to be so loud
That too much fun is the type of fun just not allowed

Tapping with the spoons, the crowd around began to dance
The guy dressed as Blitzen busted moves like a prance
Thinking... come again, come again to Christmas cheer
Twelve ounce curls bore a smile while sipping his beer

Yeah, he was sipping on a pale lager, light blonde pilsner
Getting kinda mellow and feeling smoothed over in flavor
All the spirits were getting bright as it closed to mid
A little more and his sobriety would be quite well hid

The barmaid came over and flirtatiously took his keys
But she did it with style and a smile sure to always please
As he was thinking.. come again, come again to Christmas cheer
Twelve ounce curls bore a smile while sipping his beer

First Principles: May Our List of Virtues Include Curing Ourselves of Pride and Becoming More Humble

“My List of Virtues contain’d at first but twelve: But a Quaker Friend having kindly inform’d me that I was generally thought proud; that my Pride show’d itself frequently in Conversation; that I was not content with being in the right when discussing any Point, but was overbearing & rather insolent; of which he convinc’d me by mentioning several Instances; – I determined endeavouring to cure myself …, and I added Humility to my List, giving an extensive Meaning to the Word.” – – Benjamin Franklin

With the new year approaching, perhaps there is work to be done?
