First Principles: The Safe Depository of the Ultimate Powers of American Society Is the People Themselves

“I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power.” – Thomas Jefferson (1820)

How dare Speaker Pelosi and others declare that the people cannot be trusted with the freedoms God has endowed us with in holding free election?.  How dare Obama say that the American people do not deserve freedom?  How ignorant that there are those who would follow them to the grave of America willingly dug by those who are absent understanding what our nation was founded on.

First Principles: Let No One Pretend American Patriotism Who Would Attempt To Remove Christianity From Politics

Thought For the Day: The Truths of Christmas Condenses To Three Words, “God With Us”

“If we could condense all the truths of Christmas into only three words, these would be the words: “God with us.” We tend to focus our attention at Christmas on the infancy of Christ. The greater truth of the holiday is His deity. More astonishing than a baby in the manger is the truth that this promised baby is the omnipotent Creator of the heavens and the earth!” –  John MacArthur

Thought For the Day: The Christmas Frame of Mind Has Been Changing. Let’s Do Something About it!

“Oh, Christmas isn’t just a day, it’s a frame of mind and that’s what’s been changing. That’s why I’m glad I’m here, maybe I can do something about it.” – Kris Kringle from ‘Miracle on 34th Street’

First Principles: Congress Consists Mainly of Attorneys Who Question Everything, Yield Nothing & Talk By the Hour

“If the present Congress errs in too much talking, how can it be otherwise in a body to which the people send 150 lawyers, whose trade it is to question everything, yield nothing, & talk by the hour? That 150 lawyers should do business together ought not to be expected.” – Thomas Jefferson (1821)

In A Relative Theory of Violin

Happiest National Violin Day!

In A Relative Theory of Violin
by Michael Romani

I know it's all relative but who's to argue
But to play well one must add in divisions of two
At least often, if you happen to look on the score
I am almost sure you would see this and perhaps more

Thoughts of music played in an encore of daydreams
Is what held dear Uncle Albert together in his seams
That may seem hopelessly complex in its unified fear
But each note like each planet has its influence and sphere

A violin they say is the closest instrument to voice
And perhaps it's cry and joy is what made it his choice
At his most stressed moments it would help him relax
And what was once stressful would no longer feel such a tax

Rumor has it that when he won his Nobel Prize in 1922
No one near the ceremony could figure where he'd slipped off to
There he was playing Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata's melody
Before a Japanese audience who shared his musical affinity

Oddly, while math is often found to be physics' grand narrative
Most of his musical friends found that his counting was relative
The love of a good melody shone through but time was not superlative
Though they said that with smiles and kept it to the positive

Paramount to Einstein's universe was his great love for beauty
Its grand architecture spoke to him in a song of inner unity
Though experienced in disparate fragments needing a frame
A Great Unified Theory of Everything is music by another name

First Principles: To the Distinguished Character of Patriot, Our Highest Glory Is To Add Our Christian Morality

“While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian.” – George Washington

Thought For the Day: Stacks of Books From the Past Provide Guidance and Perspective When Viewing the Present World

“The walls of books around me, dense with the past, formed a kind of insulation against the present world and its disasters.”  – Ross Macdonald, novelist (13 Dec 1915-1983)

Kitchen Table Top Theology

Today is a day with some great choices.  Never being one for liking too many choices.. let’s celebrate all three in a way and still keep it in the season?  So how about a poem for Gingerbread House Day, National Poinsettia Day and National Ding A Ling Day?  That’s right.. Chuck Berry’s song earned a day.

Flying U Ranch - Iced Gingerbread

Kitchen Table Top Theology
by Michael Romani

In these modern days predisposed to doom and gloom
It was time to turn off the TV in the other room
Gather the girls close together we something to do
Something that just might brighten up their view

With the snow falling down, they'd grown a bit bored
And needed a little cheer to have their spirits restored
Choosing to listen to some other music than Christmas tunes
It had stayed on too long after coming on way too soon

We listened to an oldie station that played Chuck Berry
Listening to My Ding A Ling and thinking how dare he
When we looked it up in an Urban online dictionary
And learned it had to do with the day phones were rotary

Trying hard to get the frosting flowing together
To assemble the walls of the gingerbread house better
We managed to put it off dressed in matching sweaters
When my youngest stared off at the red Poinsettia

This turned to trivia like how it was also the Christmas Star
And how the five points were much like King David's Star
And led to some fine nuances of kitchen table theology
With those interesting tidbits to Christmas divinity

It seems that gingerbread houses are a holy bread
And that Bethlehem translated was House of Bread
There was a correlation or so it seems it's said
Both girls grinned as that spun their heads

Until finally the house was completed with candy top
The time had come with a smile for our family to stop
As for myself, I could not nor will I ever not smile
As I think of that Christmas Eve spent in such sweet style

In the Wonder of the Star

A star led the wise men to find a babe in a manger.  The wise still seek Him.

Steelwood Forest -Away In the Manger Adoration

In the Wonder of the Star
by Michael Romani

In my loss, I feel my shame
No longer certain in my own name
I know that I must reach out nearer
To all that I hold so much dearer

To the one who calls the stars
And the magi from near and far
I pray that I might hear His voice
And find my way to better choices

A Christmas star holds its mystery
The feeling surges in its divinity
Bleeding out in my mind's hesitation
Looking for answers to unanswerable questions

Two thousand years ago this star
Shone like a beacon for eyes afar
How brave they must have been
To go to where they were needed and when

I wish that I had that courage now
The best I have is to muddle through somehow
Knowing that I have failed those I love
I rest my teary eyes on the Lord above

To remember is not an adequate word
For the flood that has occurred
The certainty that it's all absurd
My mind's unclear, it's feeling blurred

Star gazing begun with my infant eyes
A twinkled star now wrinkled but I recognize
These moments are overwhelming and demanding
What has occurred is beyond my understanding

To my best, my footsteps follow where you lead
As I watch your saintly star as it still proceeds
Lord this has been a long and very hurtful journey
Won't you please tell me I have a better destiny

In my loss, I feel my shame
No longer certain in my own name
I know that I must reach out nearer
To all that I hold so much dearer

To the one who calls the stars
And the magi from near and far
I pray that I might hear your voice
Hanging on to this better choice
