Stage Craft

Halloween Poem #27:

Magic Land - Expositor Parcanta Tienda

Stage Craft
by Michael Romani

All of the magic in hocus pocus
Is merely that of diverting focus
Legendary in its sleight of hand
It's all just illusion; understand?

Like guns on a stage in the first act
As matter of order and certain fact
Must eventually come to be used
It's a matter of stage craft no to be ill used

Somewhere offstage someone is dying
But, then someone is always busy dying
And while other doctors would not play God
To do otherwise, to Frankenstein, would be odd

There is it is in that moment's levitation
When to the audience's dulled perceptions
Sees a woman sawed in half on the stage
And then back together with a turned gauge

Discussed over high winds and double malt
Are the sting of storms rolling in their assault
It's there in the compulsion to play actor
With its disabused protocol of confused factors

Digging deep into all the psychological dirt
We find bygone memories in two sheets and a torn shirt
Morphine shrieks cause the mind's shambles
AS the master of the stage endlessly rambles

Composed as a shell game with nothing to see here
Foreheads wet with tension soaking in its fear
What's really at stake here is seldom ever known
Behind which cup is the answer never quite shown

There inside the old actor's ragged trunk
Is a pile of imagination disguised as junk
All of this given to us with polite applause
Distractions spoken quietly within a magical pause

As Halloween approaches suspense hangs in the air
Some yearn for costumed simplicity others for flair
But all know it's for the treats we put on the show
As grown ups and children act their part in the flow

Season of Fear

Halloween Poem #26:

Halloween Storm - Conversation With Madam Be

Season of Fear
by Michael Romani

Queue the creepy music
For the just the right vibe
Dare to step inside
And then you decide

As an indulgent prattle
With wicked stories told
Bones shake and start to rattle
At the thought of souls sold

The nights are dark, growing cold
The witching hour is on us
And just as in days of old
We come searching for that haunted buzz

That buzz of all that stuff
Of which we cannot get enough
Goose bumps raising on legs and arms
With shrills of horror rising up as alarms

It seems it is that time of year
Where pleasure is felt at knowing fear
Loving the thrill of things bumping in the night
With each scary moment filled with delight

First Principles: The Fundamental Trouble With the People of the United States Is That We Have Gotten Too Far Away From God

“I have been thinking a lot about these things as I have come to the realization of the tremendous responsibilities which rest upon me. It is my conviction that the fundamental trouble with the people of the United States is that they have gotten too far away from Almighty God. I am bound to believe that in a tumultuous age like ours the most important and imperative duty is the reconstruction of humanity to Almighty God.” – Warren G. Harding

Fade To Black

Halloween Poem #25:

Brown County State Park Fall Colors 10202019

Fade To Black
by Michael Romani

We shared our goodbyes at hallowed grave
To the one that we could not save
Then sat ourselves in shadowed room
Almost welcoming our mournful gloom

There was a time shared by we few
That seemed the miracle of me and you
Now all that there is, is the emptiness
As death took you and with you, my happiness

There is no more glory nor dream
Just the waking up to my silent scream
The Autumn leaves fall to bury your plot
Holding in the pain of losing my comfort sought

If my eyes could cry even one more tear
I am certain that it would be buried here
To keep you close in my constant company
With a fade to black, it is the end for me

Given To the Fire

Halloween Poem #24:

https://flic.kr/p/s4ZNhr

Given To the Fire
by Michael Romani

Gazing on the precious cross
Given to the fire with a toss
One soul stood itself alone
But, oh so, very lost and alone
As if her heart were suddenly stone
And no remorse could ever atone

There is a perfection in immortality
But a lonely one as all others have their fatality
Conventional wisdom is a simple vanity
When there is nothing left to save humanity
All of the best are given up to death
With curse uttered on their last breath

The Wolf lingers on her every kiss
Whispering of observations from the abyss
Knowing that no matter how far he has run
God has been ahead since the battle was begun
Peace on earth offered as a destination
While the Wolf of God offers her salvation

Offering protection and love as her friend
She is seeking only that it might finally end
Candles lit in pray and solemn offering
With a kiss and death he ends her suffering
Embraced in invoking one final Lord's Prayer
Only one is left standing brutally aware

Tears roll down her tired, chilling face
As he holds her close in his sad embrace
Her battles done reaching for the light
God has won her soul back from the night
The end of days will not come today
The goodness of light has brought another day

Let's hope that we humans will not just squander
All of these good things in life, left to wander
Incarnated souls living on again and yet again
Damned by the eyes of the darkest living sin
Friends offer up their painful final goodbyes
Paled yet by death's embrace as another friend dies
