“Constitutions are checks upon the hasty action of the majority. They are the self-imposed restraints of a whole people upon a majority of them to secure sober action and a respect for the rights of the minority.” – William Howard Taft

Halloween Poem #23:
Let Your World End by Michael Romani Mother, can you forgive your son For all of the ungodly things That I have self-righteously done And for all of the pain that it brings As you call me out by my given name You're looking into my sins from antiquity Feeling all of your mother's shame As you look upon my iniquity With that incessant rap, rap, rap From your cane upon the floor I feel that dreaded tap, tap, tap As I open up my mind's door For all my sins are like a jaded rainbow As all of the colors of darkness run together Into a cascade of word like Edgar Allan Poe I doubt that it could get much better Mother, can you forgive your son For all the ungodly things That I have self-righteously done And for all the pain that it brings As you call me out by my given name You're looking into my sins from antiquity Feeling all of your mothers shame As you look upon my iniquity Mother, let your world come to end Allowing the world of the night to be seen It's time for the dark new world to begin Reading metaphors into our dark dreams Walk with me this eternal mile To meet the infernal prince of radiance All resistance, you see, is futile The ebb tide flows at the hand of providence Mother, can you forgive your son For all the ungodly things That I have self-righteously done And for all the pain that it brings As you call me out by my given name You're looking into my sins from antiquity Feeling all of your mother's shame As you look upon my iniquity Blind your eyes to what it is that I see As noxious fumes burn with the flesh of humanity The drop of blood, bleed from wretched humanity As I implore you to take my hand despite my vanity Thinking thoughts of the dreaded dead place Shadowed by fear felt as warm in its embrace Remaining a faithful acolyte until the very end Walk this darkness with me, my soul lost friend (c) October 23, 2019 Michael Romani All Rights Reserved
“I also wish that the Pledge of Allegiance were directed at the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, as it is when the President takes his oath of office, rather than to the flag and the nation” – Carl Sagan

“In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man’s becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American.” – Theodore Roosevelt

Halloween Poem #22:
Taken Path by Michael Romani Even we who make our own heaven and hell Cannot evade that most singular of details That the chosen Wolf of God is our prophecy A singular enemy that is our owned destiny He then is worthy of our highest fear Leery of his considered power as he appears Coming shrouded in the foggiest of nights He is coming as the fabled bringer of light The end will be written in crimson blood It is written in history's mired mud This then is how it is and shall be A full moon shines beckoning this heresy That the Wolf shall devour what is the man Bestowing greatness as only it truly can A dark gift from the gods come to save As an illuminated vision from a shadowed cave An infusion of evil sealed into offspring To cure a greater evil as the shaman sings We cannot chose to save only one single people But instead to survive, we must save all people A poisoned heart brings blood on his soul Until the Wolf learns to embrace what isn't in control Strength is needed to have the hope to save As we dig our future from inside of our graves To do otherwise would cause the graves to overflow And the rivers to run redder than we now know Fight or run is the choice of sins he carries He must take his stand or this world he buries This night he stops running from his dark destiny Tonight will be spoken of forever as his legacy Doing all now that he knows that the must do This is the fight fought by the all too few (c) October 22, 2019 Michael Romani All Rights Reserved
