Extinction’s Line

We are, or appear to be at a defining time as to how the future of the earth will be.  The records are clear that even the most familiar of the common birds, let alone the rarer ones, are dying off in numbers we ignore at our own peril.  It isn’t just a matter of aesthetics.  Birds help pollinate plants, including food plants.  With dramatically less birds, we face uncertainty at best.

Originalia - Sandpipers Crossing

Extinction's Line
by Michael Romani

One by one, the birds disappear
Unnoticeable almost and imperceptible, I fear
After millions of years of song
Habitat lost leaves nowhere to belong
Silently disappearing one by one
We can still do something before they're all gone
While the chance of recovery narrows
There are lovers of finches and even sparrows
Who need to quietly, firmly speak with one voice
While there is still a choice
Of the unacceptability of what bird counts discover
And allow our avian friends to recover
It's as though these are canaries in a global coal mine
The walk we're taking is down every species' line

Secret Melody

There is a secret melody that plays in the heart of all who love.

The Soul's Spring Dream - Family Swim By

Secret Melody
by Michael Romani

A memory caught in a secret song
Swell of timbre that seems to strong
Music has its way with those
Whose ears this mystery has chose

Hated only by those whose pain
Has caused melancholy and strain
Still, the sun soaked plaza holds its secret
Held in the open and without any regret

We have to sing and we need to play
As we follow our hearts days after day
With faith in our dreams we smile and reach
For all the best lessons that life will teach

Guided by our treasured bits of history
We find our places by love and in family
It's there in our whispered legacy
Deep in our hearts, we find our destiny

And I know that whenever we are apart
I remember you deep inside my beating heart
Singing your melody sweetly into my mind's ear
Knowing that forever, you will always be near

Propagation

Continuing in the series  on survival:

Home, Sweet, Home - Love Beach -Snappy the Sea Turtle Returns To the Water

Propagation
by Michael Romani

I pity the poor Mayfly
Who have only one day
To find their way to a mate
Before the day is gone and it's to late
Love it seems can be a serious game
The need for diversity is to blame

Coral mate but once a year
Yet, still they seem to persevere
Once a year under a full moon
The thrill of polyp romance calls the tune
I am certain that they must anticipate
That one night they get to date

All of this in the name of survival
Each uniquely coming to their own arrival
Spontaneously, it all seems a mess
As each species dresses to impress
Colors and patterns resplendent in beauty
All in the name of our ultimate duty

The reasons are one of sheer simplicity
The methods are of greatest complexity
Each step part of the process of survival
Each moment lived in a fight of rivals
But also one in a perpetual quest
To find that love that passes on the best
