The Path of Kindness

Based in part on Proverbs 3:3-4

Church Sanctuary - Act of Kindness

The Path of Kindness
by Michael Romani

Stretched patience gives its opportunity
As a choice of kindness felt in empathy
God has given His shine into this darkness
That would otherwise know not but harshness

Our society focuses too much on outer beauty
But genuine beauty is an inner quality
Much as Christ produces in His people
Who gather in kindness beneath His steeple

Binding grace and truth in our hearts
Inscribed with importance that imparts
That such gifts are key to relationship
And right relationship is key to right worship

God's will is shown in tender consideration
Revealed with gentleness opposite consternation
Faced with the need for compassionate sensitivity
Where and when God's children need community

It is not weakness to know that all need community
Treating others as we'd be treated, loving our enemy
Much as God Himself is kind to ungrateful men
Asking His children to emulate Him and abandon sin

Moving toward salvation for our mortal souls
We are to follow God's example like a shadow
Living righteous in our ways; kind in our deeds
Tolerantly leading to repentance by meeting others' needs

Ours is not the day of judgment nor retribution
But, rather to love all with gracious absolution
Welcoming all as is our most loving responsibility
Letting our actions do the telling to our capability

Offering soft answers spoken peacefully and calmly
In response to the wrath of those living so angry
Lighting the way with large and small acts of kindness
We bring sight to those stricken with blindness

Christlike kindness comes as fruit of the spirit
For those who lay aside pride and willing to hear it
Though it is true that this does not come naturally
It is equally a true reflection of Christ actually

Paying attention to how the what of which is said
Comes out to be said before leaving our heads
This then is true as the Lord wills and commands
And it but ours to do as best that we understand

To Find Happiness

I think maybe a bit dour…

LEA 19: Hybercube by Moki Yuitza - Fighting the Good Fight

To Find Happiness
by Michael Romani

I have been fighting to survive
From the day I was born
Struggling just to stay alive
To find happiness and not be forlorn

I have walked each step in pain
Wearing a mask of happiness
Closely guarded to the point of being thought vain
Wishing for even one moment of bliss

I suppose this is my cross to bear
And that worse things have happened to some
Like not surviving or finding any reason to care
Or, walking through life oblivious or numb

Instead my lot has been to touch on happiness
Just to see it destroyed or soon gone
Mostly by my fault and replaced with emptiness
Yet, still the will to press on and on

Telling myself it's just around the bend
And that it's my struggle to move forward
Until I can keep myself anchored and depend
On God, pressing onward, hoping it's toward
               ...Happiness

Spoons Full of Memories

A good man was laid to rest today, as good a man as men are these days.  I offer this attempt of a poem to honor his memory in a final salute of sorts.  Master Sargent Charles Oliver Brooks, boss, mentor and friend (1958-2019), may you rest in peace sir.

USO On Memorial Day - Ghost Dance

Spoons Full of Memories
by Michael Romani

Spoons full of Wildberry Lavender Mascarpone
Are satisfying but will do not to really atone
For the passing of the good man we buried today
No words can make it better as they stop and weigh

So heavily, resting in the depths of my soul
I listened as the Reverend sought to console
A crowd full of people who saw you as family
As he pontificated our goodbyes in ceremony

But no words can tell the sermon your life gave
Your legacy will live long past this grave
All the lives you have touched along the way
And all the things you taught to those there today

The bugle played taps as we stood in salute
Me choking back tears as I remembered in tribute
All the many ways you deserve the honor given
For all the lives saved and how you were driven

To give your all throughout your life as you did
Your good nature and heroism could never be hid
From the day I met you, you were my mentor and friend
Not just a boss but someone on whom we could all depend

And we did because giant soldier that you were
The thought never seemed to have ever occurred
That you might say no to anything that truly needed done
And today, our broken hearts seemed to cry as one

The words that most came to my shattered mind
Were those we hear to often by those left behind
As taps was played and the Lord called your name
I am certain that He welcomed you home with no shame

Well done good and faithful servant to our nation
You have well earned your rest and peaceful destination
Tireless as a warrior for the Lord, Country and Family
In Heaven's place of valor, I'm sure you're in that company

Thank you my friend and brother for all that you taught me
Not just on the job but in life and when I fell you caught me
Our loss is Heaven's good gain, of this much, I can be sure
I heard it whispered by angels who sought to blessedly assure

You are gone but will never be forgotten my good friend
This is merely a transformation and not the end
In the distance, I'm certain that I heard a bell ringing
As you got your wings and the Heavenly choir started singing
