First Principles: The End of Law Is Not To Abolish Or Restrain, But, To Preserve and Enlarge Freedom

“The end of law is not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom. For in all the states of created beings capable of law, where there is no law, there is no freedom.” – John Locke

One Family Seen

In looking down on this world from space what might we see?

Pacifique - Feeling A Little Batty

One Family Seen
by Michael Romani

Ten million bats seen in migration
Descend on the fruited Zambian nation
Always in motion as they play their part
Delivering the fruit pits across Africa's heart

All a part of the world's unseen plan
Even as we humans refuse to understand
That there are too much in motion for coincidence
This plain evidence shows the hand of providence

The world's connection in a million ways
Is one that provides the stability of our days
But even this is a bit illusion
Because it's more like a storm of perfect confusion

In a droplet of time we are oblivious
To all that to an outside world would be obvious
The violence of our storm creates our ability
To live life to our fullest capability

Seen from space, some feel their insignificance
When viewing the earth from the universe's magnificence
The storm you see is not necessarily our enemy
It is the patterns that make us part of one big family

Isn’t That

Trust in the universe, she says.  As if that’s easy?

Poetry of the Planets -Venus - Contemplating Peace

Isn't That
by Michael Romani

Well,
Isn't that rude?
To find
My Attitude
Interrupts
Your solitude
Random
In being
Blindly
Yet, still seeing
That the beginning
Of contemplation
Takes moments
Of introspection
In these,
We trust the universe
And...
Of course,
The poet
He
Puts this in verse

First Principles: Humanity’s Sacred Rights Are Written By the Hand of the Divinity Not To Be Removed or Hidden By Mortal Power

“The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for, among old parchments, or musty records. They are written, as with a sun beam, in the whole volume of human nature, by the hand of the divinity itself; and can never be erased or obscured by mortal power.” – Alexander Hamilton (1775)

Thought For the Day: Politicians and Diapers Must Be Changed Often

“Politicians and diapers must be changed often, and for the same reason.” – Mark Twain

After watching the debates, I could not agree more.  Impossible promises on one side.  Lack of acknowledgement for failed policies let alone offers of different approaches that might actually work on the other.

Razor’s Edge

Another poem from another life lived an lifetime ago about who I was then and wondering how it is that I managed to turn things around maybe for the better.  At least, I like to think so? This one is for a friend whose life ended in the worse sort of crash.

Rock Master Concert Venue - Tied To the Musical Whipping Post

Razor's Edge
by Michael Romani

Looking back, voyaging in time
Sweat wiped off from the grime
There in the leather spotlight heated
Tougher than the life lived mistreated

We walked the talk of endless nights
Selling our souls for the bright lights
Bringing it on as we thrashed guitar
You swore that you and I would end up stars

Memories of you and me
You and I, we should have been thinking
But, you and me
We were too busy drinking

We were going to put on the show
Rocking out to songs we didn't really know
It's all the same for rock -n-roll
Moonlight madness dazed in our stroll

Staring I begged as the first time you died
I was there on my knees as I cried
Praying to a God that that I didn't know
Wondering how we'd survive this rock-n-roll

Played out with a rumble four by four
The crowds howled screaming out for more
Digging it straight up in violation
Doubled down in our sonic annihilation

You lived through that day somehow
Though I am quite alone as I live still now
Remembering the top down thunder's instigation
And all the minute matters calling for investigation

Drinks tossed and taken back
Cracking down we'd fade to black
Riding it out to the music's end
Pick up the chorus and play it again

Going the long haul to go the distance
It was measured out in troubled persistence
Bottom line bass turned out in licks
We played it out all night to get our kicks

Now looking back I see how we fell off track
Wishing my prayers could bring you back
I don't even drink any more but I lift my toast
Knowing that of all the hearts, I miss you the most

First Principles: Once A Republic Is Corrupted, The Only Remedy Is to Remove the Corruption and Restore Its Lost Principles

“When once a Republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost principles; every other correction is either useless or a new evil.” – Thomas Jefferson

Thought For the Day: When Mankind Fights It’s Unseen Battles We Need the Grace of Kindness Shown and Heard

“Kind words, kind looks, kind acts, and warm hand-shakes, – these are means of grace when men in trouble are fighting their unseen battles.” – John Hall, pastor (31 Jul 1829-1898)

In A Honeyed Land

Every biome or space in nature or land has a particular carrying capacity for what can be taken from it without removing the stability found there.  Also, for how much life and of what kinds it can support.  But, for this poem, the point is what may be taken without bringing ruin.

Butterfly Conservatory - Honey, I'm Home

In A Honeyed Land
by Michael Romani

Macro and micro act in concert
In a honeyed land filled with beauty and hurt
Cultivation of bees is a near forgotten art
And frames the bigger truth of the ways of the heart

The world is so often thrown off by greed
That rises above any real human need
A Macedonian outcrop offers its honey
Part of sustenance and part for money

Life can become a burden in its longevity
And while life is nice, it can become misery
Particularly nestled into remarkable intimacy
Where ecology has become as if one with the family

A salve for the loneliness of an isolated existence
Becomes a spiral of chaos in its persistence
Taking half allows for abundant life to sustain
But, for some, there is not will to refrain

Life doesn't come with voice over narration
Sometimes bad things happen without explanation
It's just that even the most peaceful places of inference
Can become troubled and destabilized by human interference
