First Principles: National and Individual Happiness Comes From Love of Liberty; Respect For Laws; Habits of Industry; and Practice of Moral and Religious Obligations

“Your love of liberty — your respect for the laws — your habits of industry — and your practice of the moral and religious obligations, are the strongest claims to national and individual happiness.” – George Washington (1789)

Thought For the Day: Forgiveness Is A Cancelled Note Never To Be Shown Against the Forgiven

“I can forgive, but I cannot forget, is only another way of saying, I will not forgive. Forgiveness ought to be like a cancelled note – torn in two, and burned up, so that it never can be shown against one.” – Henry Ward Beecher

Things We’ve Said

Woke up this morning, kicking myself hard.  Nuff said about that other than…

The Soul's Spring Dream - In the Sadness of Alice

Things We've Said
by Michael Romani

Teared face looks in the mirror
Trapped disgrace lived out in error
Struggling past feeble lines of poetry
That still vivid voice deep inside of me

Eyes drawn up to the distant stars
Feeling you near, no matter how far
I look and keep my promises I won't neglect
Knowing that your heart is one I'll never forget

Choking back my sorrow full of buried pain
It's a shadow inside me holding the reins
What might be the use of these fading eyes
If I never see or feel your sweet surprise

It's so much more than I'll ever truly see
The thrashings I've suffered for my dignity
A child's rhyme plays on inside my head
As I say my prayers just before going to bed

Playing on the precipice of my fears
As curious as the music I still hear
Deep inside my head, where my feelings led
With too much regret over things we've said

First Principles: Nothing Impels Regard of Constituents As the Certainty of Participating In Their Burdens

“Nothing so strongly impels a man to regard the interests of his constituents, as the certainty of returning to the general mass of the people, from whence he was taken, where he must participate in their burdens.” – George Mason

Be True

The Bard said and we’ve all felt it.  The Bible says it too.  Truth shall set us free, right?

Fairy Tales Castle -The Truth Shall Set You Free

Be True
by Michael Romani

There is a secret to life
Where we persist through strife
That is to always be true
No matter what life throws at you
Stay the course and be true
Though all of life's trauma
And despite all the drama
Strive to always be true
No matter what life throws at you
Stay the course and be true
Never believe that you're alone
Though it may seem you're on your own
To your own heart beat true
No matter what life takes from you
Stay the course and be true
Though you might feel bound and gagged
As though tied down and dragged
Have the strength to remain true
No matter the struggles given you
Stay the course and be true
Though it might be hard to smile
And sometimes seem not so worth while
Please always stay and remain ever true

Oxygen Reexamined

One of the little miracles of life that we too often take for granted is the level of oxygen on our fair planet and just what this does for us without much of an effort by most.

Solo Arte by Terrygold -

Oxygen Reexamined
by Michael Romani

Breath
Natural and essential
Without oxygen
Death
Barren without potential
Devoid of life again

Dallol, Ethiopia
Sulphuric toxicity
No innate ability to grow
Yet, an astrophysical utopia
For pinhead sized duplicity
Is found in the bacteria that grows

In this is the evidence
Of life in a rugged environment
Very different than we perceive
Thankful for the hand of Providence
That has allowed our life so different
And yet, atheists do not believe

We underestimate oxygen
Almost ignoring its chemistry
As it feeds and gives us power
Mixing with tissue and food again
It's an underestimated part of biology
That both strengthens and empowers

Without the presence of oxygen
We could not have our complexity
Yet, we take it for granted as we breathe
Breathing in each breath again and again
Hardly understanding the immensity
That each breath taken allows life to conceive

First Principles: The American Revolution Bonded Principles of Civil Government With Principles of Christianity

“The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected, in one indissoluble bond, the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.” –  John Adams

Thought For the Day: Music Can Make Us Feel Invulnerable and Related to All of Time

“When I hear music, I fear no danger. I am invulnerable. I see no foe. I am related to the earliest times, and to the latest.” – Henry David Thoreau

Gasping At the Glimpses

Do you ever take a moment to realize how much we simply take for granted?  All the miracles that make up every day life?

Enchanted Memories - Living Room I - Spin of the Globe

Gasping At the Glimpses
by Michael Romani

Life, so wonderfully unlikely
Each moment, such a sight to see
And yet, it is and stays here
With nothing but everything to fear

And yet, not to fear, because we alone
Look out the capsule's window, seeing home
As if someone turned the lights on
Filled with too much wonder to ever be gone

From up above and looking down on the land
This provides a better way to understand
The many connections that make us all one
Terra Firma circled is circling the sun

All the near misses and all the lucky breaks
It is enough to make this man's soul shake
Living deeply into this thing seen as infinity
Gasping at the glimpses that bring eternity

I've seen enough of things we call everything
And that without which we are next to nothing
To know that the strangest, most beautiful place
Is this Earth that with each sunrise I embrace

All of the things that are too often taken for granted
All of the stories we're told and are often ranted
We learn that without gravity, tears don't fall
And learn to appreciate it all on this great blue ball
