The Root Cause

Continuing in my series pertinent to things going on with my health, the influences of someone proving to be very special to me and my advocation of the integration of more traditional medical perspectives into the Western Medicine I have grown up with in my life.  It’s become a very important issue to me as I continue in my struggle toward wellness.

Provincial Life - Finding Comfort In Old Roots

The Root Cause
by Michael Romani

In all of my hurting moments
When all around becomes still
Sometimes, I walk past the torments
Knowing this will take more than a pill

Searching for answers that confound
Looking for hope in your sweet eyes
Because my negativity can be profound
Hoping for the maybe of your surprise

As you teach me about tradition
The good of following sound nutrition
The sick care system that treats the signs
of my symptoms as you offer something devine

I hold your hand as you lovingly walk with me
Listen closely as you nurse and talk to me
Taking me away from this spiral of toxicity
Moving me toward embracing the simplicity

A lifestyle you tell me is like the secret cure
And that I, like society, have forgotten nature's laws
New pills leading to new and worse ills, do not cure
All of these things that I've had to endure just because

And through it all, you feel my woeful trauma
Walking me back away from the stressful drama
The things that I'm going through are from emotion
These require a studied and steady devotion

There is no quick fix for a root cause
It's more than traumatic biology but God's laws
Knowing that my body is a temple as I agree
Is perhaps the start of returning to me

Your smile encourages me toward optimism
Easing me past my inborn skepticism
The Autoimmune pathogen's origin is unknown
But its effects on my life are clearly shown

I find myself turning toward food as medicine
Hoping to find my way to a better end
And it's on this, you say that I can depend
You and this will walk me back to health again

Seeking the Hands of God

Based in part on Hosea 10:12:

SL Argentina - Cathedral

Seeking the Hands of God
by Michael Romani

Reaping the righteous fruit as you sow
Hands united for God as we truly know
Used as servants of the Lord we love
We are messengers serving the above

Too often we hear the shattered phrase
Hands tied over and over not just in phase
Those who feel or act powerless as excuse
Have failed to give as they should and abuse

The fact that God is not powerless to accomplish
All that He and He through we find a need to finish
Too often told to seek not the hands but God's face
But a look at the Bible evidences this as out of place

It is often through God's hands that the best is done
Be it through HIs power, His servants' hands or His Son
God's hands are needed each moment in every day
It is His hands that guide us to do right in every way

The seeking of God requires our deep faith and action
It's through this that we find our way to best satisfaction
But like Hosea to his wife He keep calling us back to Him
Protected by His love, sheltered and clinging to His hem

Seeking God requires that we be still and surrender
Learning the tough that comes from being tender
Willing to break up our un-tilled and fallow ground
And once surrendered, we are blessed by what's found

We will never experience the fullness of God in fallow ground
These are the limits of what we do and how we are bound
We must stand up to our sinful actions and become clean
If we are to ever really know what God's glory can mean

Seeking God requires our obedience to doing right
Being proactive in helping to shine God's sweet light
Wherever we might step forward and do some good
A heart turned toward God is one that has understood

In all of this seeking of God we must keep persistence
Honor bound to keep digging in against resistance
Righteously prepared to await the Lord's arrival
Never falling back but moving beyond mere survival

Moving forward to become all that we are meant
Sharing our abilities and blessings we are sent
Keeping our eyes on God to receive that shower
Of righteousness added to us in that diligent hour

God's hand is there ever present and stretched out
There for us with strength there to remove all doubt
Needed as it is by each of us in our days of living
We find our way through with love and being forgiving

First Principles: We Should Attend To the Higher Duties of Being Both Patriotic and Christian

“While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian.” – George Washington

The Whiskey Priest

Based on Graham Greene’s The Power and the Glory.. seemed suitable for Lent on the dark side.. Read the novel to see why more accurately….

Niamh's Journey of Dreams -A Priest On the Road

The Whiskey Priest
by Michael Romani

Anger has replaced ambition
With the drive to drink
Even a priest's contrition
Couldn't fail to find the brink
Out there on the edge
Both feet inching toward the ledge
Living in a daily devotion
He's victim to his gluttonous emotions

Religious vestiges are ordered burned
The lessons of greed have gone unlearned
Truth and light are all but not
It's getting to the point, he's hoping he's caught
Once he felt so awe inspired
Now, he's mostly feeling naught but tired

Raw suffering strains toward redemption
Solid in its masses of stark contemplation
Vexatious in its morality for Lent
It's these cleansing moments that we repent
In this lost haven of a holy man's mental jungle
This becomes a time for transcendence over struggle

Memory Inspires the Future

Slavery is wrong.  It was wrong in the past.  It is wrong in the present.  It’s a wrong that will go into our future.  That is until we stand together to vanquish this evil.  I cannot stress enough that the slavery of the past is of less consequence than that of the present.  Yet, still it has its consequences.

LEA28: Storm Septimus' Country of Mind Untitled- The Chains The Bind Us

Memory Inspires the Future
by Michael Romani

On the butterfly isle of Guadaloupe
Is the Darboussier sugar factory
That lays as dormant as the slavery
For which it is remembered in history
Preserved as to function and as legacy
It's social grievance of perversity

It's memory serving to inspire the future
As a little something better we night nurture
The children of the damned sought their humanism
In a checkered past toward fraternity and reconciliation
Towards the rebirth of the French nation

Although welcomed into French citizenry
No cultural amnesia could erase the atrocity
Enough was enough about the moving forward
Without some sort of apology toward
The two hundred years of bloody legacy
That will remain forever a stain on history

No sidestepping of the past evades history
Where the past crimes are those against humanity
Still, dwelling on all the past slights
Will not make any freer the still of night
It's hard to feel fraternal absent equality
That or freedom from what's hard to forgive

Birds perch on a concrete balcony
While Guadaloupeans beg for their dignity
The past and present has an ambiguous boundary
Les Colons seek transcendence from slavery
But until today's children know true equality
There will never be even one French man who is free
