Child of Tomorrow

Faenhall Island - A Rock-n-Roll Cowgirl's Contemplation
Child of Tomorrow
by Michael Doyle

In a thank you from the future
The child of tomorrow
Knows the caliber and essence of nurture
Filtered between the narrow

Of sights that no one has seen
In a splendido sunrise
There in the Devil's cathedral of being
The way home is glowing before our eyes

The bardic depths flow in still night
Where the promises of hope are unsaid
This is the war of the neon's light
Where it is easier to love and yet be unsaid

Thought For the Day: The First Gulp From the Glass of Natural Sciences Will Turn You Into An Atheist. But At the Bottom of the Glass God Is Waiting For You

“The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist. But at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you.” – Nobel Prize-winning physicist Werner Heisenberg (1901-1976)

First Principles: Liberty Must At All Hazards Be Supported

“Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.” – John Adams (1765)

Thought For the Day: If Some Men Are Entitled By Right To The Products of the Work of Others, It Means That Those Others Are Deprived of Rights

“If some men are entitled by right to the products of the work of others, it means that those others are deprived of rights.” – Ayn Rand (1905-1982)

First Principles: An Unlimited Power To Tax Involves, Necessarily, A Power To Destroy

“An unlimited power to tax involves, necessarily, a power to destroy; because there is a limit beyond which no institution and no property can bear taxation.” – John Marshall (1819)

The Chasm Between

Avra Orbital Habitat - Cosmic Attraction
The Chasm Between
by Michael Doyle

When man creates the perfect machine
Will it be as some utopian dreams
Or will they find the chasm between
Who we are and how we wish to seem

Is one which it escapes all detection
That mortals such as we will ever meet perfection
So many flaws from which to start again
Why would they love us even as friends?

With recalibration, test one thousand and one
A new test begins as each has begun
With the hope of fixing all our mistakes
And creating the body and mind that never breaks

Thought For the Day: You Always Know the Mark of A Coward. A Coward Hides Behind Freedom. A Brave Person Stands In Front of Freedom and Defends It For Others

“You always know the mark of a coward. A coward hides behind freedom. A brave person stands in front of freedom and defends it for others.” – Henry Rollins.

First Principles: Never Suppose That In Any Possible Situation, Or Under Any Circumstances, It Is Best For You To Do A Dishonorable Thing, However Slightly

“Give up money, give up fame, give up science, give the earth itself and all it contains rather than do an immoral act. And never suppose that in any possible situation, or under any circumstances, it is best for you to do a dishonorable thing, however slightly so it may appear to you.” – Thomas Jefferson (1785)

In the Shadows of Cheerfulness

Indian Market & Festival & Asian Festival - Colts Cheerleaders Look On
In the Shadows of Cheerfulness
by Michael Doyle

On the edge of zero
There's a shadowy history
In land of anti-heroes
Is there any real mystery

That someone wants to strip
The aura of wonderfulness
In a lustful cynical grip
Bringing a darkness to cheerfulness

A style of loving kindness
Extended in times of trouble
But in this age of willful blindness
The pressure is on, only double

Such modest feelings matter too
These moderate upticks in mood
Building lives for the many and the few
Since the Middle Ages, cheerfulness exudes

Surface over substance to peculiar degree
Projected to handily protect and to serve
Cheer isn't what they say that it used to be
It's become a flimsy commodity of modernity

There on life's knife edge is the twist
The falsity of truth half told, even missed
Cannot it all be told with a hint of grace
For dreams to last, accept them at full face

The cynic falsely declaims naive optimism
Disliking as they do anything but pessimism
But let us not trust in happiness too easily
Deception has often slipped by too breezily
