Thought For the Day: The Give of Every Good and Perfect Gift Has Called Upon Us To Mimic God’s Giving, By Grace, Through Faith and This Is Not of Ourselves

“The giver of every good and perfect gift has called upon us to mimic God’s giving, by grace, through faith and this is not of ourselves” – St. Nicholas, Bishop of Myra

A Tale of Two Kings

Winter at Bath - Feeling Like A Stranger In A Manger
A Tale of Two Kings
by Michael Doyle

Watching as our days unfold
Into the stories yet untold
Life is a gift for us to live
In taking less than we have to give

Let's not let the Grinch steal Christmas
No snarling sneer will stop this mass
Instead let's live out the glory
As we unfold our Christmas story

In a narcissistic turn of belated fate
There came the king, Herod the Great
As an embodiment of living tyranny
The thirst for power is pride's history

Where there's a preoccupation with the "I"
There will be enough sin to make God sigh
Herod dressed out in his need for possession
Shows how a soul is owned by its obsessions

Prestige can make its sense of impression
With a gift of gab in all of its deception
All it can bring is a life of morbid fear
When instead, the lives lived should be in cheer

The magi came to see God laying as a baby
Urged on Herod's suspicion that just maybe
There was a true king to breed his insecurity
Leading to disturbed violence in furious history

when the Scriptures were held under deep review
Herod swore he would be be the only King of the Jews
His intended present would not be frankincense, gold or myrrh
But the thoughts of deaths yet to occur

Wanting to give the first of gifts and only the very best
The wise men would return home after passing the test
But Herod would yet try to take the Savior's life
As Herod preferred hatred, anger and the ways of strife

As Joseph's family fled to Egypt, God chose to provide
All needed to save Jesus, Joseph, and Mary side by side
While Herod slaughtered every single little boy
Trying to deprive the world of the best of our coming joy

The kingdom of this world is doomed always to fail
While the kingdom of God will always in the end prevail
Herod wore the signature of the bestial, bad man
Bringing evil where could as only the truly evil can

Which king then will be the one to rule your life?
Will you serve the ways of peace or live for strife?
What good are riches if these will forfeit your life?
It's truly that simple, will you choose peace or strife?

Surrendering all or living for the rot of that something
That in the end is truly the mirage adding up to nothing
The ways of sin are found in the separation in death
Better than we confess into salvation unto our last breath

Thought For the Day: Someone Is Responsible For What Happened, and I Can’t Say Who That Is, But I Know It’s Not Me

“Someone is responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who that is, but I know it’s not me.” – Alec Baldwin, deflecting the responsibility that everyone holding a gun has toward others with respect to gun safety

Rittenhouse

Existence In Balance -Troubles Surrounding Like Chaos Theory
Rittenhouse
by Michael Doyle

When the cognitive dissonance begins to diverge
And we find America struggling and on the verge
There is no doubt that we must must ask the why
Martyrs are made but no one wants to really die

A young man, barely a man, falls down weeping
Not guilty on all counts, his mother also weeping
The reading of the verdict was a make or break moment
That lends hope toward ending our nation's torment

A collective sigh of relief ends their wrong intention
Wept tears of joy flood at Rittenhouse's exoneration
If it had not been for the courage of the jury
This injustice would have led to far greater injury

The Democratic Party openly advocates raw violence
In an attempt that fails only because of eternal vigilance
In an age when mass action has been far too extreme
Theirs is the chain reaction that pulls at the American Dream

This did not result from bottom up outbursts from the underclass
But a distinctive, urban violence pushed for en masse
A shadowy cabal of powerful interests got a slacker elected
Though not an ounce of their integrity is able to be detected

The likes of Black Lives Matter and enflamed Floyd protests
Became an open conspiracy of wrong doing and not legit contests
Doing the bidding of a cabal for the selected 2020 election
A conspiracy that happened in the open and yet avoids detection

Two political hacks spoke of a kidnapper rather proudly
As one pandered about shots piercing the soul too loudly
Knowing it will stoke the flames through rawest choosing
They seemingly caught law enforcement pants down and dozing

Riot Kitchen came from Seattle to feed the lawless frenzy
While GoFundMe treated it as though the riots were Disney
Over half arrested in Kenosha came from out of town
Yet, Kyle, it is said, should not have been around?

Sometimes though the good guys manage to actually win
And though America still stands on the abyss of sin
A jury of his peers voted unanimously for Kyle's exoneration
And gave cause for righteous celebration across our nation

Thought For the Day: Happy, Happy Christmas, That Can Win Us Back To the Delusions of Childish Days

“Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days; that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth; that can transport the sailor and the traveller, thousands of miles away, back to his own fire-side and his quiet home!” – Charles Dickens, The Pickwick Papers, 1836

In the Tragedy of Wisdom

Gates of Memories -The Tragedy of Strategy Gone Wrong
In the Tragedy of Wisdom
by Michael Doyle

As we sit writing for an audience
Aimed as it is to somehow please
The words of Shakespeare and Sophocles
Shine in all of their brilliance

One wrote for the strong, just king
The other in the promise of democracy
Each had their and his good to bring
Neither back the truth in their philosophy

Every decision by the Athenians was made
Educated by and through all unafraid
Life was a living through diligent education
Citizenry was assured through their dedication

It was through the necessity of subtle persuasion
Aiming toward a morality strong against disposition
Each decision to be made in steady recompense
By the sovereignty of citizens duly aware of consequence

In the city Athens, there lived the wisest playwrights
Sophocles and others wrote plays sung into the nights
As Aristotle noted, Sophocles' works were of tragedy
Perfectly malleable as cathartic for the Athenian city

In this was the purge of fear and thoughts of great pity
In the initiation of action played out for the fair city
Given in terms of the fallen even among those of nobility
Showing the mistake of life within everyone's capacity

It is then this day of the actor's display of sadness
That eases the burden of life's complicated madness
Never make a decision because you feel you are afraid
And never do anything that is from depths of sorrow made

Tragedy can be seen through the days of every century
Written as it is throughout the annals of all of history
It is a central issue brought from within human pride
It is the truth of humanity in which we will all confide
