Thought For the Day: Don’t You See That the Whole Aim of Newspeak Is to Narrow the Range of Thought?

“Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it.” – George Orwell

It Took My Savior To Atone

Little Santorini 2020 - A Church On Every Corner
It Took My Savior To Atone
by Michael Doyle

Everyone wants a family
To be part of that possibility
Awakening to being found out lost
Having worked hard to pay the cost

Risen as I am, a new creation
Living the joy with fascination
I know I couldn't do this on my own
It took my savior to atone

Saved as I am and embracing grace
Truth is told, plain on its face
God is who He says He is
Don't so hastily rush to dismiss

This peace found in darkest days
Chasing the sadness from my ways
The Lord has made me one of His own
It took my savior to atone

First Principles: A Wise and Frugal Government…Shall Restrain Men From Injuring One Another

“[A] wise and frugal government … shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government.” – Thomas Jefferson

First Principles: Men, To Act With Vigor and Effect, Must Have Time To Mature Measures…As To the Best Method of Applying Them

“Men, to act with vigor and effect, must have time to mature measures, and judgment and experience, as to the best method of applying them. They must not be hurried on to their conclusions by the passions, or the fears of the multitude. They must deliberate, as well as resolve.” – Joseph Story (1833)

Thought For the Day: Whereas Each Man Claims His Freedom As A Matter of Right, the Freedom He Accords To Other Men Is A Matter of Toleration

“Whereas each man claims his freedom as a matter of right, the freedom he accords to other men is a matter of toleration.” – Walter Lippmann (1889-1974)

Thought For the Day: There Is Not Less Wit Nor Less Invention In Applying Rightly A Thought One Finds In A Book, Than In Being the First Author of That Thought

“There is not less wit nor less invention in applying rightly a thought one finds in a book, than in being the first author of that thought.” -Pierre Bayle, philosopher and writer (1647-1706)

First Principles: Justice Is the End of Government. It Is the End of Civil Society.

“Justice is the end of government. It is the end of civil society. It ever has been and ever will be pursued until it be obtained, or until liberty be lost in the pursuit.” – James Madison

First Principles: As Parents, We Can Have No Joy, Knowing That This Government Is Not Sufficiently Lasting To Ensure Any Thing Which We May Bequeath To Posterity

“As parents, we can have no joy, knowing that this government is not sufficiently lasting to ensure any thing which we may bequeath to posterity: And by a plain method of argument, as we are running the next generation into debt, we ought to do the work of it, otherwise we use them meanly and pitifully. In order to discover the line of our duty rightly, we should take our children in our hand, and fix our station a few years farther into life; that eminence will present a prospect, which a few present fears and prejudices conceal from our sight.”–Thomas Paine, Common Sense, 1776

Thought For the Day: It Hurts My Soul To Hear the Terrible Names That People Call Donald. The Worst One Is ‘Racist’.

“It hurts my soul to hear the terrible names that people call Donald. The worst one is ‘racist.’ I take it as a personal insult that people would think I would have a 37-year friendship with a racist. People who think that don’t know what they are talking about. Growing up in the Deep South, I have seen racism up close. I know what it is. And it isn’t Donald Trump.” – Hershel Walker
