Carnival of Ordinary Love

The Book of Nightmares Holiday Village - Valentine's Day Is Coming
Carnival of Ordinary Love
by Michael Doyle

I guess you could say
That I'm nothing extraordinary
That my life has been lived
Like a carnival of the ordinary

Always keeping my eye on the prize
That had yet to be won
A life lived with no alibis
Until I saw your face and was undone

Drawn to you as I was
Without power to resist
I had to be near you because
Of my compulsion that will ever persist

That I would be that anything
That you want and need
Giving my all and then something
Whatever it takes to be believed

Painting scenes of sanctity
In moments lived for themselves
Treasured as these are for being free
Instead of driven by papers from their shelves

It's these that chase our laughter
Making music to which we choose to dance
In this embrace we both get what we're after
With no regard for the consequences, only romance

In the Sweetness of Money

The Empire Room -Perfect Trio of Soulful Jazz
In the Sweetness of Money
by Michael Doyle

The band leader says, "One, two.."
And the band knows what to do
Especially slick with his brand new shoes
Filled as he is with his particular views

Stepping it up to make it better
In the harmony of patent leather
It's there where it is found
All in the name of Ma Rainey's sound

Whispered tales never quite on the level
About selling souls to the Devil
Talking tough about bad luck as simple
Only reverent to God when inside His Temple

Seems that you can't tell a fool nothing
Until he's ready for learning that something
That moves the people from the heart
What moves the feet will rule the chart

Take a stomp turned into a dance
Studying up on the ways of false romance
Strung up, turned to and set on fire
Such are the wicked ways of desire

A crooked smile hides its trace
Disguised as it is across a man's face
Making history from this stew
Leftovers are easy enough to misconstrue

Past misdeeds hold their leverage
That make for the headlines of heritage
Challenged to get it infinitely tight
All for the sake of nailing it right

It comes down to that solid choice
Paying the piper's price for the selling voice
I suppose that it seems a bit funny
But all it's about is the in the sweetness of money

Walking With the Giants

The Dickens Project 2020 - Frozen Fountain In the Churchyard
Walking With the Giants
by Michael Doyle

Walking with the giants
We stand in our defiance
Calling out the holy names
Known with the mark of God's fame

Walking in the faith that's known
Confidence that has grown
Though the future remains unseen
In this assurance, we find new meaning

By faith, we find our commendation
Evidencing the base of our foundation
In God, everything is possible
Regardless of however it seems improbable

Believing in the way of truth and light
To lead us through the passing of the night
Sin too often clouds and entangles
The perseverance that too often mangles

The faith that has come before us
Keeping it for now and forever as it was
The good, the bold and the ugly tell the story
Of the path that leads to God's glory

Difficult seasons come our way
Yet, belief and faith keep us every day
God's concern is in the depths of our hearts
This is where our shaping begins and starts

Two pillars of God, goodness and control
Are as the protectors of our very souls
The plans in mind begin to unfold
As in the tale of Joseph, often told

Jealousy and anger lead to deception
Lost within the mistaken conception
That somehow shows sin as something we can juggle
The things against which we often struggle

From slavery and throughout history
There really is no great mystery
That focus should be on God and not our pain
Shaping us to maturity and not in vain

There is wonderful joy despite our trials
To be faced with courage and our smiles
Keeping true to the path of our generation
Living love in our deepest spiritual connection
