Grifted

Home, Sweet, Home -Mandala Connection
Grifted
by Michael Doyle

Maybe I'm feeling more grifted
In the depth of your lies shifted
One day this and the next day that
It's not a statement in anger; it's just fact

I get that you love to fake and pretend
But were you even my friend?
I really don't even come close to thinking so
And that, my dear, hurts me to my soul

To find your soul evil as you laid by my side
The words that I'm speaking aren't just wounded pride
Always promising to pay me back for my generosity
I hadn't believed I needed to check your veracity

In winding your way into my stubborn heart
I was less than entertained that you played your part
I guess I hadn't read that page in your book
Where you explained the meaning of your look

I begged you to not go down this path
And you looked in my face with a laugh
High handed in your fine art of lying
And now I done with our goodbye-ing

First Principles: The Declaration of Independence Rests … On The Harmonizing Sentiments of the Day, Whether Expressed In Conversation, In Letters, Printed Essays, Or In the Elementary Books of Public Right, As Aristotle, Cicero, Locke, Sidney, Et al.

“All [the] authority [of the Declaration of Independence] rests … on the harmonizing sentiments of the day, whether expressed in conversation, in letters, printed essays, or in the elementary books of public right, as Aristotle, Cicero, Locke, Sidney, &c.” – Thomas Jefferson, in Letter to Henry Lee (May 8, 1825)

Thought For the Day: I Would Rather Be Politically Buried Than To Be Hypocritically Immortalized

“I have always supported measures and principles and not men. I have acted fearless and independent and I never will regret my course. I would rather be politically buried than to be hypocritically immortalized.” – Davy Crockett, frontiersman, soldier, and politician (17 Aug 1786-1836)

First Principles: The Person Who Will Submit To Wear A Shackle, Condemns the Noblest Gift of Heaven and Impiously Affronts the God That Made Us Free

“The man who meanly will submit to wear a shackle, condemns the noblest gift of heaven, and impiously affronts the God that made him free. … Ease and prosperity (though pleasing for a day) have often sunk a people into effeminacy and sloth. … Our country is in danger, but not to be despaired of. Our enemies are numerous and powerful; but we have many friends, determining to be free, and heaven and earth will aid the resolution. On you depend the fortunes of America. You are to decide the important question, on which rest the happiness and liberty of millions yet unborn. Act worthy of yourselves.” – Dr. Joseph Warren

Trying To Bottle Up

Dr. Foster's Herbal Greenhouse -Bottled Relief
Trying To Bottle Up
by Michael Doyle

Trying to bottle up all the trouble
Straight talking never ever double
Is something that is next to impossible
Something of which I know I'm incapable

But, I would do almost anything
To keep you safe from all that everything
That is out there waiting to do wrong
Impossible for me, no matter how strong

I look at each of you who are my daughters
And pray that you know you're loved by your father
No matter how it seems I do my best imperfectly
I would do anything to do it all correctly

There are others who, if you'll pardon me
Will always paint me out as if I'm guilty
Seemingly with a hellbent need to crucify
That I won't even ever attempt to dignify

Laying me out on their own crooked cross
Telling us all of their never had loss
Taking from you girls and me as if to impress
Their need for some morbid pound of flesh

Telling each of us of my need to always improve
When it's their faults for their false moves
I know you girls and I have each other's backs
And there is nothing that we'll ever lack

See the thing is that revenge is their game
But it's not well played when they're to blame
Each has left their mark as their vengeful sign
They'd best move on while we keep on target and refine

But, I know that what isn't can't be fine
Is that their lies go on endlessly and by design
Let's leave the past where it's meant; far behind
Letting it go while we keep to the good plans in our minds

It's a fault of the human race, creating private hells
Perhaps they should realize the release is in the details
Along with God and they should stick to what's true
If they they need there would be less suffering to go through

They need to let go and and stop all of their lying
Because if they don't they'll end up being the only ones crying
As you girls and I reach our hands up high into the skies
Making the most of each day that we won't let slip by

A Good Feeling About…

LEA28: Storm Septimus' Country of Mind Untitled- The Chains The Bind Us
A Good Feeling About...
by Michael Doyle

It looks like we're in for nasty weather
God knows that you and I deserve better
Plotted courses are always subject to change
It's the simple way of life and nothing stranger

Spin offs and rip offs serve to distract
In this life lived constantly under attack
Slight adjustments can feel like a lot
But, if we roll with the flow, they're soon forgot

Here we are, stumbled in the same direction
I know that we both feel this connection
Rolling along as soon as we're ready
Across life's mine fields we hold steady

Rushed scenes of passion oft mistaken for compassion
Are often disjointed as is standard fashion
In this world that is too often unfair
But, for which we have only our dreams to compare

Our lives are our canvasses of the heart
Ever moving forward to do our utmost part
Keeping the moving toward in our best direction
Hoping our flaws avoid the outside's detection

Instead of melodramatically staying stuck
We find hard work makes our best sort of luck
Never afraid that anything is truly impossible
Still, it's best to stay within the probable

To stay within the studio for the sake of art
Is really putting the horse before life's cart
We have to go out and get into life's slick mix
Elsewise, we find that we have created our own fix

No matter how it seems that it's been a bum rush
And life is coming at us harshly seeming too much
It's not so hard to be the hero is this scene
As long as we believe in our own dreams

All of us wonder as to our deepest inspiration
Lost in wondering at our sometimes pointless motivation
But then, when the final cut comes to us all
Let it be that we've observed our muse and did not fall

What Fools Lament…

Walls of Freedom -Pledging Allegiance
What Fools Lament...
by Michael Doyle

What fools lament, wise men cherish
Forever vigilant that our ideals won't perish
Living life in recycled cinema outtakes played
We stand up boldly and unafraid

Holding tight against things that shouldn't be
The quietly spoken pillars of our community
Shed chances at fifteen minutes under an artificial sun
Knowing that we might not make it, but, we'll give our best run

The questions in life often cut too deep
Still, we cling to the tree of liberty that we'll keep
Pitched to do more than we ever wanted
By the Stygian hounds that should have never hunted

Confused as we often are, but, on the same page
The singer drops his microphone on our stage
With words that should never have to be said
But must be pronounced as our hearts are led

Forced into play by negative bytes of disposition
We'll stand firm against the trials of omission
If you're wondering about our truest motivation
Take another stab at reading our formative explanation

First Principles: A Man Who Has Nothing For Which He Is Willing To Fight, Nothing Which Is More Important Than His Own Personal Safety, Is A Miserable Creature and Has No Chance of Being Free Unless Made and Kept So By the Exertions of Better Men

“War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” – John Stuart Mill (1806-1873)
