On Being Indigenous In the 21st Century

Singularity Tribe - Highlights of a Cracked Cosmos
On Being Indigenous In the 21st Century
by Michael Doyle

In this world of the modern age
When most wish to appear a wise sage
It is pithy to posture and say
In that pseudo-intellectual way

That the indigenous follow Mother Nature's way
Though if you were to ask us, we'd likely say
That we were the originals marginalized in modern life
And that the more is better as we wish little of that strife

All finger pointing likes to place America to blame
Forgetting all the empires built in Europe's name
But even that is inaccurate as China is the same
So, perhaps to blame anything but power corrupted is lame

World War Two's end brought many a new nation
Sometimes with little to no valid explanation
As the indigenous sought out their sovereignty
Sometimes willingly surrendering a bit of dignity

To hold their heads up a little higher
With less skill than burning desire
To make their own way into this world
With their largely symbolic flags unfurled

Many are the peoples distinguished in history
Who in this modern world live in poverty
There in confrontational extremes of vulnerability
Willingly endured in the namesake of diversity

Slash and burn borne of need for cultivation
Have brought havoc across Amazonia's nations
While tribes form nations as the legacy
Seeking mostly after their squalid continuity

Coffee stains the teeth and soul with grit
When even 40% of the native tongues are forfeit
Losing language that encodes cultural perceptions
Thinking and knowing become limited in their definition

It's truly a matter of saving one's community
To find one's identity in finding place of family
DNA alone cannot give any one needed inclusion
But it does set the boundaries of exclusion

The Dragon Finds Flight

Tlalli - The Fair Around the World - Asia 2020 - Enter the Dragon

The Dragon Finds Flight
by Michael Doyle

Power returns with the rise
Up there in the sky; see the the blood moon
Hell awakens; beginning in her eyes
The dragon shall be freed soon

The truest knight knows his duty
Having had seen her wrath and her beauty
His is only to do the Lord's will
The truth you see is sleight of hand he reveals

Warning comes with village bells ringing
The trouble is Satan's and he is bringing
All the evil necessary to fill a soul
And that only a clerical knight might control

The siren's call is hard to resist
Though many have tried; few dared persist
Time has made this dragon stronger
And though silver might weaken, it conquers no longer

Thought For the Day: There Can Be No Public Or Private Virtue Unless the Foundation of Action Is the Practice of Truth

First Principles: With Those Who Wish To Think Amiss of Me, I Have Learned To Be Perfectly Indifferent

“With those who wish to think amiss of me, I have learned to be perfectly indifferent; but where I know a mind to be ingenuous, and to need only truth to set it to rights, I cannot be passive.” – Thomas Jefferson (1804)

Slips of the Tongue

The Spartan Empire - Catching Feathers - Coiled Trap
Slips of the Tongue
by Michael Doyle

Slips of the feeble tongue
Come more often when no longer young
Things ill thought should often not be said
But instead kept inside one's head

Our lives are played out like a movie
Sometimes hellbent though that doesn't move me
Still at times, we cling to bad decisions
That, later still, we hold out in self derision

Copping out to our intended and unintended roles
As we roll through a life often out of control
Fading in slowly into the opening scene
More than often, we do not even know what it means

Doing our best to dig out from the dirt
We play out the masquerade now matter how it hurts
To get to that place that we are better than we start
Even when we feel its make believe from our hearts

By our own devices we cause our own worse harm
Living it up fully until life loses its charm
Dancing like there will be no tomorrow
Will most often end in the clarity of our sorrow

The truths we embrace are often half felt
Measured by the hands we are ill dealt
But are fed most of all by our wicked desire
And our hope that the universe will conspire

This realization brings us to our fragility
In realizing our best is less in actuality
Bringing life's party to it's premature wrap
Seeking like every mouse to avoid the trap

That brings us face to face with our day to day
Fully and freely acknowledging there is no better way
But to put one awkward foot in front of the other
In getting through our next day and then another

Thought For the Day: True Conservation Provides For Wise Use By the General Public…and People of All Income Levels Should Have Easy Access To Them

“True conservation provides for wise use by the general public. The American people do not want our resources preserved for the exclusive use of the wealthy. These land and water resources belong to the people, and people of all income levels should have easy access to them.” – George Aiken

Reality Check

To listen to the DNC the last 2 nights and a portion of today, you would think they could do no evil and that President Trump can do no right. If perhaps you don’t fact check what they say and find out that things are often the opposite of what they say, you’d think maybe so…

Donkeys by Cica Ghost -Four Donkeys and An A....Mazing Guy ;-)
Reality Check
by Michael Doyle

The Democrats feign prayer in reality check
Seemingly forgetting the corpus of their wreck
As they keep encouraging their cities to burn
As if maybe they've forgotten how it is to learn

The lessons of the past are after all history
And that in itself allows a sort of mystery
That history is something that they do not cherish
Forgetting the vigilance needed so we do not perish

As a country that serves as a city on the hill
That was meant by the founders to pursue God's will
Instead they judge things by the standards of today
While judging the rest of the world another way

Biden and Harris pursue a Kumbaya that could be never
As each of these feel themselves to be the one clever
And yet the folly of the users is to become losers
As they fall under the fatal axe of each side's pursuers

Biden's laurels do not rest at least not on his own history
How those who nominate him think he'll escape it is a mystery
But here we are ready to hear on tomorrow's date
That he's who is needed and that they will nominate

First Principle: The Ultimate Authority Resides In the People Alone

“The ultimate authority … resides in the people alone. … The advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation … forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any…” – James Madison (1788)
