Hello Echo

Some mysteries are better left under lock and key.

LEA24: -Echoes, Metaphyisics of Frequencies - Duplicity In A Dancer's Thinking

Hello Echo
by Michael Doyle

Deeper than an echo
In a wishing well
Hidden in the shadow
Shivering to its last detail

You have to listen
To the whispers calling
Can you feel it glisten
As the night is falling

You have to find the key
If you want to sing along
Shut your eyes and follow closely
As the spirits sing their song

Brave enough to stand
Watch and then pretend
That you might just understand
In yourself you find your best friend

Unpack the memory
Of all once meant
Lost up in the scenery
It's the perspective lent

If you close your eyes
So that you can't see
Do the darkened skies
Hide their mystery

A fractured mirror cracks
Imprisoning self inside of self
Clicking heels won't take you back
Neither will the books on a shelf

Be careful of that door
Where you hide your pain
There is magic and something more
Questioning if all is in vain

Thought For the Day: The Great Dialectic In Our Time…Is Between Economic Enterprise and the State

“The great dialectic in our time is not, as anciently and by some still supposed, between capital and labor; it is between economic enterprise and the state.” – John Kenneth Galbraith (1908-2006)

Sailing An Impersonal Apocalypse

I heard an interesting global reading of Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.  From this contrasted with the pandemic lockdown came:

Central Park Carmel, IN - Stormy Weather Coming

Sailing An Impersonal Apocalypse
by Michael Doyle

As is the way of many a hero's journey
Enduring the successive trials of history
The protagonist endures unwanted trials
Until transformed by traversing many miles

Set adrift, disorientated on the sea
Threatened by the storms of yester-be
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner shares a message
Pertinent to the time and space of our present passage

There is an epic sense of case history
As we voyage through the pandemic's mystery
It is a Jungian voyage into our modernity
Someone cues the nightmare of this compelling story

People, people everywhere, but not a one to hug
In a lockdown response with its ungentle tug
We have become atomized into our condition
Hanging on every word of morning, noon and evening edition

Beach combing for verses through a digital mist
Dreaming of vibrant lips you've never even kissed
We've become a ship of fools somehow bound together
Senseless as it is for the worse or for the better

A bottomless symbol caught in the eye of desolation
Spurned in this moment of near global isolation
Your words spoken in the idle meanness of corrosive pleasure
Become an unleashed prophecy of harrowing measure

We walk in that troublesome zone between certain ruin
Inexplicably had without our probable doing
Between an old world and a reach for the coming new one
The deathfires of the old speak of man nearly undone

As outsiders on the edge of so many important things
We are all now bit players in what tomorrow brings
It's a terrible idea in a masterpiece splitting up
And certainly not the clear path to the winner's cup

In the end, we will all become sadly, wiser
With too many unmeant words spouted like a geyser
Ours has become loneliness examined in an existential sense
When we find at last that all of our bravado was only pretense

Nourishing the Spirit

Based in part on Matthew 5:6:

A Return To The Shire -Feast On the Glenn

Nourishing the Spirit
by Michael Doyle

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst
Putting the ways of righteousness first
Sustained as these are in their every day
Effected as we are; moving out of our own way

The path of life cuts between abandoned marsh
As we carry on best we can moving in our march
Endured as it is in an almost ceaseless race
We grab for our bit of something to embrace

Our bodies give us warning in our final miles
The things that make you sigh and yet smile
The guzzled slurp that brings our satisfaction
As we settle into the dopamine of our action

So it is also with those righteously tried
In the marathon we call life, yet satisfied
Approached as it is equally in dread and satisfaction
We earnestly seek our betterment and self actualization

Walking with Jesus on this faithful journey
The fullness of God's kingdom is our destiny
The passing things serve as metaphors of order
As we push up against the edge of Heaven's border

The feelings gnaw at me that it is not just a whim
That time is but a trick and has little to do with Him
The waxing and the waning of our rhythmic biology
Hinting at the tugs on the shirt sleeves of theology

Our hungers are always mixed and changing
With every small bite they are constantly rearranging
And so it is with God's Word in it's revealed mystery
We clutch our stomachs in hunger for God's divinity

Whispering a sacred amen hushed in our conventionality
This providing the needed space for our frail humanity
God gives His precious love without any condemnation
Given as it is and was in the sacrifice that gave redemption

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst
Putting the ways of righteousness first
Sustained as these are in their every day
Effected as we are; moving out of our own way

First Principles: Religion Is A Matter Which Lies Solely Between Man and His God

“Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between church and State.” – Thomas Jefferson, in a Letter to a Committee of the Danbury Baptist Association, Connecticut (January 1, 1802)

This then is the sole and only reference from which secularists have errantly concluded that the Constitution creates a wall of separation from Church and State.  In taking this mistaken stance, they have completely missed the meaning that all churches are protected from the State’s incursion into spiritual matters that belong solely between church members and their perceptions of God.  This is but one of the things that modern society has so totally skewed as to have missed the point entirely.   There is nothing that separates the church from voicing its informed opinion and thoughts on any matter in the public square.  But there is conversely this that states that the legislative branch will make no law establishing a national church nor may it prohibit the free exercise of one’s conscience.

Reading of Minds

The best and truest magic in the world remains love.  Still all the same, there is even among even those wishing to become astute wizards, a strong desire to be able to read minds…

Sky On Fire

Reading of Minds
by Michael Doyle

I would suppose it one heck of a notion
That amounts to a simple proposition
To read a person's thoughts on mind
In all that tangles it leaves behind

One must first come to know
In all that signs that do show
The little things of the heart
For these however hidden do not depart

Think not of magic and trickery first
When other means might quench the thirst
The heart is the secret to all human beings
If you might know best what they mean

It's in this that we gain passage and learn
The basic things magic will never earn
To be able to create that which is light
And in so doing, to illuminate the night

In doing this with right intention
One must be weary of the things of attention
In the subtleness of confidence
Such things require graceful diffidence

If one is to fulfill
Regardless of what one wills
To perform a wizard's role
While keeping chaos in control

Spells in a book of knowledge
Takes the wizard to his Hyperborean edge
Where everything he needs to have known
Can be read carefully and be shown

Such information as needed to know
In all the ways of mystery that flow
This brings each to who we are
As surely as the reading of the stars

Birth of Merlin

Which was your favorite?  King Arthur? Or, Merlin?

Hogsweed School - Blue Moon Rising

Birth of Merlin
by Michael Doyle

In 480 AD, in Britain's Dark Ages
Arthur, Camelot and Merlin rode into its pages
Shrouded in the fog of great mystery
It's half lost from the pages of history

Magic and semi-mythical beasts spawn
In these days of chivalry and brawn
As violence and bloodshed blot the country
There in a time that remains legendary

These were the ancient days of Merlin
As his wizardly ways did begin
A castle sits on a stormy night
When a child is born to second sight

Posed a question that of maiden's purity
And with it, rested that of her sincerity
Should the child just born be put to death
Even as he takes his first small breaths

The druids have provided counsel for the land
Through plagues and famines while kings command
A wise man knows not to anger the gods of lore
For in doing so the risk is less than poor

A Cowboy Slips Into Easy

Some of my heroes have been cowboys.  At least one of them was a cowgirl.  My sister.  She’s likely riding the North Back 40 in heaven now looking down on us all and encouraging us to ride through this storm and get back to the light where we belong.

SL14B Awesome - Max Mystery Land - Cowboy Surfer Rides A T Rex

A Cowboy Slips Into Easy
by Michael Doyle

He'd had just about enough of winter
As if his life had begun to splinter
It wasn't easy going on and on
With most of his memories long since gone

Life was full of too many changes
Out there on the Dakota ranges
Until one day, there'd be no more days
This was just the luck of cowboy ways

He put another quarter in
The jukebox and slowly then
Turned to a half remembered smile
It had been a good, long while

This cowboy had principles seen
Perhaps more than most human beings
And he would continue to stand by them
In his promises of yester-when

A cup of coffee wore his name
He'd tasted better just the same
It was there in the proof of promises made
He knew he'd face life bravely and unafraid

It's not the place that makes a home
It's the people and intangibles you'll never own
A stone cast seemingly self-thrown
Is the strangest truth this cowboy has known
