Sizzle As It Fries

It’s hard to get better than today’s celebration! Happy National Bacon Day!  Oh sure… some are going to say, hey… you’re supposed to be working hard on your health….. Yes, I know.  However, you’ve taken brownies and chocolate chip cookies.. stay away from my share of the bacon!! Kidding… and yet still… am I?

Sizzle As It Fries
by Michael Romani

Sunday mornings walkin' past the kitchen
You know that maybe I'm just itchin'
To have me some of that delicious sizzle
That wafts through the air like a drizzle

Of all those long strips of the delicious
Not arguing that their any sense of nutritious
But still there they are flat on back frying
And I know these as totally crispy and satisfying

Finding excuses as I sit there and stare
Uncertain if I am truly willing to share
You know, I do believe these are healthy
After all, these are always gluten free

She just makes her teasing face at me
Absolutely certain she'll have her way with me
As she tolerates the other love in my life
Preferring our peace over given up strife

I can see that she's truly not buying it
Yet, still there she is lovingly frying it
Health is very important and a blessing to her
So, as much as I love my bacon it does occur

That perhaps a quick internet search
Might save my particular bacon from this lurch
Finding five ways that bacon is healthy
I feel like a man suddenly wealthy

Pleading my case that it gives vigor and vim
As I point out how it has so many vitamins
She tosses back her hair playfully, derisively
And I realize I need to make my case more decisively

So leaning on a counter-argument based on facts
I point out that bacon does not contain trans-fats
And she wrinkles her nose just bit disapprovingly
Letting me know I need more to be seen movingly

Smiling, I put it out that I am not being rude
When I say it's proven that bacon improves my mood
There is a simple bliss to be found in the umami
It has, after all, decreased stress levels in me

With another haughty shake of her head and hair
She tells me she's not buying it and I must not care
How long I get to be on earth to love her soul
I laugh and reply that maybe somethings aren't in control

I clinch this by saying omega three is good for the heart
And same as some fish, my dear bacon is doing its part
It's a matter of pushing the good numbers over the bad
And that should help make her happy and not feel too sad

In a step too far, she steals bacon she's put on my plate
And I laugh thinking to myself that she is my perfect mate
Reminding her that bacon is good for my mind, filled with choline
Whether anything can save my mind, she says, is yet to be seen

She says these things with a wink and her beautiful sweet smile
But I've seen the way she looks at me and won't be in denial
This extra bacon is so that she can ensure she'll live longer
Says my suspicions that have never, ever been wronger...

Thought For the Day: Let Our New Year’s Resolution Be To Be There For One Another As Fellow Members of Humanity, In the Finest Sense of the Word

“Let our New Year’s resolution be this: we will be there for one another as fellow members of humanity, in the finest sense of the word.” – Goran Persson

Building a sense of viable and sustainable community is essential for the well being of humanity in spirit and for practical purposes.   Too often in modern society, it is easy to become isolated and even alienated.  Its best that we stand together.

While Yet I Live

Today is chosen by some as Still Need To Do Day.   There is a lot that I still need to do.  How about you readers on here?  Still have things to do?  On the page speaking about this day, I found some advice.  Are there things you’ve yet to do?  Do you keep putting these off being these pleasant or unpleasant?  No.  I’m not riding you about it.  Me too! The advice?  Just Do It!

Someone once told me that I am too free with my compliments, trust, respect and care.  I still cannot get that person to understand that when you are handed a prognosis that you may only have today and no tomorrow, it has inclined at least me to try to keep to saying the good things about all and keep living each moment with all I have.  There may not be a tomorrow so why not live each day not fearing that but trying to put your best you forward.  With such risks come some losses.  Trust me, I’ve lived those as well.  But, is it ever really a loss if you know you’ve done your utmost to bring goodness and love into the world?   I think not.  Let’s give it all we got!

While Yet I Live
by Michael Romani

The new year approaches short and steady
Too many of us find that we're not ready
Yet, Janus, the two faced god, says it is so
And so we approach as best that we know

I pray to God for the strength to look backward
While keeping my eyes on life moving forward
Seeking the truth of abundance in the plentiful
Living each moment in its magic so beautiful

At this moment, absolutely sacred and profane
I look upward into Heavens to release the rain
Of knowing that while yet I still live
There is more of me required and that I must give

All those many things that I would have wanted
Too many things missed that remain a bit haunted
Like living a lifetime fighting for peace
And learning that the best chance is to release

The thought that I might impact this one too deep
Beyond finding my own way to inner peace to keep
Letting go to let God there somewhere in the God flow
Where a trust in the mutuality of all is all I know

So like the song says, let this peace on earth begin
With me and let its light maybe spread that is when
We might have our best chance on that bit of to do list
Hiding shrouded right there in the openness of things I've missed

The next of things left on my life's perhaps last to do list
Is a thought that I am sure is blessed perhaps even God kissed
That I might give belief in God and what is right in legacy
In the example I live and write on and sing about to my family

If I can only let my angels know somehow that I have done my best
And that I am sorry that perhaps I did not pass this test
And let them see and know and feel that I wish them all my love
And that they might set their eyes and hearts on what's above

Then I will have served them well as their father in my duty
Filling their hearts with love, joy, peace and all the beauty
That is around them, beams through them and is indeed them
Then maybe that might be a greater treasure than the rarest gem

If I might serve to leave it written to read that they might know
The history of our nation's principles worth keeping from long ago
Then perhaps I might teach them, and reach them in their hearts
And that I think and dream and hope is just maybe a good start

Of my still need to do list
So many things I'm certain that I've missed
Hopefully there will be time enough to tell
All that's left and leave this as my last and living will

Ring, Ring Rings the Phone

Today is both National Call A Friend Day and National Chocolate Candy Day!  In honor of this, to paraphrase a military tradition, ‘eat them if you got ’em’ and call a friend if only to tell that person or persons that you care!

Ring, Ring Rings the Phone
by Michael Romani

Christmas Day has past by three
And I'm alone sitting quietly
Having just ate a coconut curry
Certainly in less than a hurry

I get your text that you received
A bigger box of chocolate than conceived
Would I call you so that you might share
Taking this moment to say that we care

It is so pleasant to hear your voice
One that I'd never want to lose by choice
All the days and nights that we have spent
Hours seemed like minutes wherever the seconds went

Would that I could be, I know that I should be
And know that you know I would if I could be
Standing there picking chocolate squares
Looking at odd shapes and taking sweet dares

There maybe isn't a word for us in the dictionary
Two chocolate bound lovers of coco confectionery
But, soon the seconds spent in sheer happiness
Become the minutes than hours of needed bliss

It is so very good to hear tonight your voice
A voice that I would never, ever lose by choice
Even if it as just as suddenly realized as it seems
It's only in my imagination and then in my dreams

Thought For the Day: New Year Resolutions Allow Us To Affectively Start Fresh

“The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective.” – Gilbert K. Chesterton

Shelf Life

Today Is National Fruit Cake Day!! (run….)

Shelf Life
by Michael Romani

Raise a glass of eggnog in good cheer
Blessed by this holiday time of year
But what do we do about this one gift
One that creates sometimes the biggest rift...

Down through the ages
As agreed on by the sages
There is a food so regrettable
That it is agreed as reject-able

Tasting at least better than rubber
The sight of fruitcake makes us shudder
Sent out to so many at Christmas time
It is the ultimate sentence without crime

In a recipe little changed since Roman days
Overly sweet it could be improved many ways
That would add to its unique... taste
And that would love leave it going to waste

It's a passionate style; served with a smile
But disgustingly easy to revile
Two cups of fruit and nuts are used to fill
With and undertone of brandy we cannot conceal

Grandma's bit of mayhem and guilty pleasure
That she insists we treat as though a treasure
With a poke in the ribs, a forced smile appears
We'll just pretend we're blessed by this sculptured cheer
