Thought For the Day: Homemade Cookies Are Preferable To All the Store-Bought Cookies

“I am still convinced that a good, simple, homemade cookie is preferable to all the store-bought cookies one can find.” – James Beard

It’s A Harsh Thing To Be Labelled

December 3rd is both National and International Disability Day.  In honor of this:

It's A Harsh Thing To Be Labelled
by Michael Romani

As I pull in to park at the facility
I feel a dreaded sense of vulnerability
It's a harsh thing to be labelled
Or it feels so now that I am disabled

Its been a bit daunting to carry this
A bit too stirred and shaken to quietly dismiss
As I watch your eyes as you see me park
And wonder why I'm faking this as I walk

But that's because of your own misconceptions
In thinking that invisible injuries are deception
I wish they were I think as I see your doubt
Realizing you don't have a clue what it's about

You see while some folks where their pain outside
Mine is hitting me super hard here on the inside
I work really hard to make this less visible
Not so you can make fun or think me miserable

I don't have a missing limb or discernable handicap
And I get the confusion and the cognitive gap
But if you knew my inflammation and internal bleeding
The long nights filled with pain and prayerful pleading

You would know that I push myself to the limits of my ability
Trying to push my way past my infirm disabilities
On the outside I keep my calm and firm composure
Despite the depth of my injuries from toxic exposure

And to others who wear their disabilities on the outside
I offer a kinder heart than maybe I once did, I'll confide
So please don't judge me as you see me parking there
Or, I'll probably just fadeaway and one day disappear

First Principles: An Independent Judiciary Protects the Interests of the People

“So long as we may have an independent Judiciary, the great interests of the people will be safe.” – John Rutledge

When the Democrats attempt to pack the USSC as with FDR and the current move in Congress, we need to recognize this as the danger that it is the American republic as it stands and is intended to govern.

Mutts Rule

Today just happens to be just before giving Tuesday.. if the spirit moves ya… there is a website for the national ASPCA and local offices to give at too…

Mutts Rule
by Michael Romani

If you find yourself in a rut
And you need some more step in your strut
Find your way downtown
To the local dog pound
And pick yourself up a mutt

What you'll find there
Or, so it does truly appear
To be more than just precisely clear
Is a whole lot of love to hold dear
And laughter until you're in tears

Some beautiful wiry sort of mix
With a heartful of love and tricks
Greetings at the door
Of a thousand licks
That will always leave you wanting more

She'll always come when you call
Chasing a make believe rabbit formed as a ball
There with every bouncity, bounce
Tail curled high and standing tall
You'll never find truer love, ounce for ounce

You see, all dogs are way beyond cool
But, the truth is that mutts rule
There is something in their humble step up
That tells of a drink from the winners cup
When you listen up to cool mutt school

First Principles: No Human Society Has Ever Been Able To Maintain Both Order and Freedom Apart From the Moral Precepts of the Christianity

“No human society has even been able to maintain both order and freedom, both cohesiveness and liberty apart from the moral precepts of the Christian religion…Should our republic ever forget this fundamental precept of governance this great experiment will then be surely doomed.”  – John Jay

Tis the Season of Holiday Lights

Today is not only the first day of Advent but is also the National Day of Christmas Lights.

National Christmas Lights Day

It is with this in mind that I offer the following poem:

Tis The Season of Holiday Lights
by Michael Romani

Tis the season of holiday lights
Gems of magic that brighten our nights
A thousand points to lighten our skies
As we all look up with excited eyes

It's the season of Christmas fun
On this December 1st, it has begun
With candlelit hearts we sing our songs
Knowing with joy where we all belong

Bundled up to keep the chill air out
Presented with loving warmth all about
We give our share to help angel wings grow
As we peer out into the nighttime's glow

Frosty days and ice chilled nights
Are all helped along with Christmas lights
Sugar-plumb wishes of icy winter filigree
With eyes opened wide with the season's glee

There are no better days to come but these
Where strings of magic synchronize and please
Children of all ages from one to ninety-three
Know that holiday lights enchant us with their beauty

Thought For the Day: If Celebrating Christmas Is To Love Others, Why Do We Have To Wait All Year To Do That?

“My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?” – Bob Hope

First Principles: We Claim the Rights Essential To Happiness Not From Government But From God

” Kings or parliaments could not give the rights essential to happiness… We claim them from a higher source – from the King of kings, and Lord of all the earth. They are not annexed to us by parchments and seals. They are created in us by the decrees of Providence, which establish the laws of our nature. They are born with us; exist with us; and cannot be taken from us by any human power, without taking our lives.” – John Dickinson
