Once Upon A Night In Bethlehem – I

Based in part on Micah 5:2:

House of Prayer - Once Upon A Night In Bethlehem

Once Upon A Night In Bethelhem - I
by Michael Romani

From Bethlehem will come the king
With all the joy that this will bring
It's of His glory that we all will sing
Making that something out of nothing

This day of Advent is the first of our year
Christian and holy unfolding our Godly cheer
It was a time when the world was in disarray
The Lord was born to bring us His holy ways

In a time when the world had peace imposed
This was the context of how all is presupposed
In the centuries before when paradise came to call
And with one bite, all of humanity took its fall

Downcast with all the troubles we have come to see
The nightly news tells us nothing new in our history
But in the end we rest assured knowing He will make it right
Satan will be crushed under heel and the world brought to light

All of this was foretold in the days of fulfilled prophecy
Ancient in its roots and new in the branches of His history
Justice in faithfulness we have come to see and know
All this this a prevailing part of living in God's sweet flow

Humble in its desert beginnings under a holy star
A caravan began westward willingly traveling far
All to find that holy babe whose love was not torn
As He came to be born on that cold, frosty morn

So many served to witness the rising of the Lord
Some lived humbly and others living by the sword
Every moment challenging in these sordid times
All of these challenges leading to the sublime

God is and has always been up to a little something
For the honor, Glory and our good it's great news we bring
If we can just hold onto the hope of God's awesome glory
Each of us playing out our part in this amazing story

Learning To Trust

In transition from general gratitude and more toward Christmas now and holiday feelings… the last poem of gratitude #30:

Temple Beth Shalom of Hikari - Star of David

Learning To Trust
by Michael Romani

One cold, silent night
An angel appeared
Filling the room with light
A messenger from the God she revered

Telling her, she was blessed with child
And she smiled her mercy mild
It was a holy moment of serenity
As she surrendered to Divinity

There in the things seeming ordinary
Were the stirrings of the extraordinary
Just a little patience needed
In the encircling grind to be heeded

Though at times there seems no way out
And our worrisome heads are filled with doubt
We find we're never small enough to hide
From the Lord we must trust and in whom we confide

First Principles: The First Maxim of Those Who Love Liberty Is To Never Grant Rulers An Atom of Power That Is Not Indispensably Necessary

“The first maxim of a man who loves liberty, should be never to grant to rulers an atom of power that is not most clearly and indispensably necessary for the safety and well being of society.” – Richard Henry Lee

The Outspokenness of Brokenness

A poem of gratitude #29:

Mimmo - It's Too Late When You Die (Learn To Forgive)

The Outspokenness of Brokenness
by Michael Romani

Lord, if you'll forgive my outspokenness
How do you love us in our brokenness?
I get that you died for us on a crucifix
Wounded by my own pain, your love conflicts

With what seems to be my frail reason
As my eyes look forward into the coming season
It fascinates me that you show us all grace
Having looked us in the eye, face to face

Forgetting your love is my lack of humility
Just another droplet in the sea of tattered humanity
I spin my wheels lost in all of the darkness
Scarred by this world's tragic onset of harshness

Still, I am thankful for the slap back of your correction
Rebuked and sent with force again in the right direction
I am confused too often in the counting of my own scars
When my time would be better spent counting stars

It's really something how they burn on ever so bright
Set before us like a tapestry sparkling in the night
Each of these a potential wished on wish upon
As we learn to understand that our hope is never gone

Thank you, Lord, in all of your sacredness of divinity
For as much as I've believed in you, you believe in me
I see the evidence for this before my very own eyes
As I wake up every morning to each new sunrise

It's puzzling to me, the ways of the Devil's attitude
I am lost and confused how we can have less than gratitude
As you shape us into our best lives molded into cruciform
At least when we dare to have the courage to conform

Here I go again in my unrelenting moments of unspoken-ness
Truly, these thoughts and words are symptoms of my brokenness
I find that I do better when I trouble to listen intently
Trusting in your words, in you, quietly and quite contently

Thank you for loving me, teaching me, guiding me, despite me
The me that is less than a shadow to the least of your divinity
But too often I am filled with such tarnished, foolish pride
Until I am knocked back down learning that in you I can confide

Learning from you to watch and heed your example of the best ways
For me to live out the best of the rest of my last days
I often wonder why you still hold on and somehow believe in me
Forever and always thankful for your lessons tendered in humility

Missing You On Thanksgiving Day

In memory of my sister, Michele.  One of the most cherished parts of my life.

The Michele Anne Krier Memorial Gardens - Giving Thanks For Plenty Even In Times of Sorrow

I didn’t miss your birthday this year

I just silently did my best to hide my tears

Stumbled on your photos this day

This thanksgiving day

And thought to myself back on all we had

So many memories more happy than sad

You taught me so much as we grew older

You into a beauty queen; me into some kinda soldier

I am missing you this Thanksgiving Day

No one could have asked for a better sister to love

And I know that you’re looking down from above

Hopeful that I might become yet the little brother

You’d be proud of, though I know you’d never want another

I miss you so much, Michele, so do so many

Of so many happy, worthy memories, I have plenty

But, what I don’t have is those moments of blessed company

You were my sister, my best friend, mentor, my dearest family

I miss you…

Today….

Thought For the Day: Let Us Recommit Ourselves To That Devotion To God and Family

“As we celebrate Thanksgiving … we should ask what we can do as individuals to demonstrate our gratitude to God for all He has done. Such reflection can only add to the significance of this precious day of remembrance. Let us recommit ourselves to that devotion to God and family that has played such an important role in making this a great Nation, and which will be needed as a source of strength if we are to remain a great people.” – Ronald Reagan

First Principles: This Day Is Devoted By Americans To the Service of God As the Beneficent Author of All Good

“I do recommend and assign [this Thanksgiving Day] to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be.” – George Washington

…

An amazing Proclamation that would, I think, make Hemingway proud for the length of the sentences and yet captures the essence of our intentions as Americans then and now (from a Patriotic state of mind not always for those who would tear our nation down).

THE FIRST THANKSGIVING PROCLAMATION

“Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

“Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

“And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord. To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

“Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.”
