Boy Genius

Inspired by and dedicated to the vexatious life of Erik Satie.

West of the Rain - Composition In My Mind

Boy Genius
by Michael Romani

Reeling out of control
Unable to console
The boy genius fights
Taking confront in his nights

Sideways bit of swagger
Sliced into like a dagger
Shamelessly ballistic
Far too antagonistic

Wordlessly described
Often circumscribed
More ego than we know
Force taken blow by blow

Longing for glory
But failing at the story
Self superior in his thinking
Caught up in his drinking

Reeling out of control
Unable to console
The boy genius fights
Taking comfort in his night

Disintegrating humanity
Lost within in his vanity
Collapsing in his sanity
He falters in his dignity

Approaching steps toward fame
Harrowed into his shame
Lonely dreams coming true
Melt into the serenity renewed

Shown love and empathy
He returns this with cruelty
Lost capacity for connection
He's never cared for correction

Reeling out of control
Unable to console
The boy genius fights
Taking comfort in his nights

At A Half Mumble

Like the song says, if there’s a rock n heaven, you know they got a heck of a band.  Have you ever really stopped to think on all those who rose up like some latter day shamen only to burn out and fade away.. and yet still leave their mark on society’s common memory?

At A Half Mumble
by Michael Romani

Spaced out troubadors
Splash across lost generations
Quavering melodies crumble
With words at a half mumble

Receive ready in stateliness
Caught up in its headiness
Fragile in it scare
Bordering on a list of real care

Stolen lines for the next fight
Hint of soul's darkness brought to light
A man child playing the part of a poet
Distorts his emotion afraid to show it

What's left to be said
When everything has been said
Twirled blues spin the mind
Yesterday's memories are left blind

Toxic on a personal level
Are the mixed messages of an untamed devil
Booze and sex offer line given highs
Dreams of the ideal slipped behind our sighs

It feels forever since we've chased dignity
Caught up in the darkness of our complexity
Looking of signals of strength in the wind
Steelier eyes seek our future past the bend

All the hopped up promises of love seem to fade
As those torn to dust insist on throwing shade
Pieces of puzzle whispered into our ears
Run away with the magic of all our rushing years

Cries worthy of some sort of a happy ending
Self imagined dreams worth some sort of blending
Glorious in the heaving of a heavy sonic melody
It offers truth of tender somewhat genuinely

Taken place across in its historical sweep
Heaven's unstable frontier makes us weep
Holding on as the ground shakes and hills burned
It's an epitaph to all things we've graciously learned

Come To Light

Truth be told, I am excited that the things of comic books that I dreamed on a kid are coming about in my lifetime.   One of these was robots.  Then AI.  And then robots with AI .  This is a poetic stab in that direction.

Steam: The Hunt XIV and Exposition - Robot Man Guards the Entrance

Come To Light
by Michael Romani

Might it be that
The creation of AI
Able to be like man
If this could be a fact
Would be deep as the sky
And that first act
That only Gods can
Bring into effect
And significantly correct
In it's standby
That is something new
Which brings into view
The conceptualizing
Overcoming the ability
To comprehend
That the history of man ends
Bringing us to our new tomorrow
Where fascination
Leads past our sorrow
In its stark impression
That has a language
That exceeds expression
Fully surpassing the analytical
Of yesterday's fanatical
Thoughts leaving us sleepless at night
As new man comes to light
