Echoed Reflections

Saw a movie that inspired some beautiful thoughts, I think maybe?  The thought of being so joined that you could see the world through the eyes of the one you want to share life with anyhow might be kinda very awesome even if a bit scary at times…

Lillium - Dawn With Reflection

Echoed Reflections
by Michael Romani

A smart man often turns things messy
With a turn of thoughts, you'd guess he
Might find a way to get himself ahead
Instead of messing up again as it's said

Cherries waiting in turn to be picked
Like candles melting waiting to be wicked
Burning all the days at both ends
Clumsy thieves of time, struggle to be friends

Stealing away the moments of our every day
Faking their best at just being okay
Dropped jokes cause their own walkaway
Wishing once a good one would choose to stay

Ghosted there in their mix of reflection
Each getting lost in their inner connection
Underdressed in their moment of resurrection
There something there that escapes detection

Both certain that they might lose their minds
Choosing to lose themselves in commonality they find
Caught up by their unexpected synchronicity
Yet, somehow disconnected through life's simplicity

Echoed thoughts bear their need for repetition
Two hearts caught up into one fantastic beauty
Each the other's better half come to light
As they see their way through each other's sight

First Principles: All Commercial Policy Should Be Equal and Impartial As We Seek Harmonious, Liberal Trade With All Nations

“Harmony, liberal intercourse with all Nations, are recommended by policy, humanity and interest. But even our Commercial policy should hold an equal and impartial hand: neither seeking nor granting exclusive favours or preferences; consulting the natural course of things; diffusing and diversifying by gentle means the streams of Commerce, but forcing nothing; establishing with Powers so disposed; in order to give trade a stable course.” – George Washington (1796)

Fallen Through Time

Life continues its lessons, it seems.

Shagwong Cove Resort - The Onliness of Being Alone

Fallen Through Time
by Michael Romani

Sometimes it's an alien world
In which my flag is unfurled
Bravely proclaiming my stance
Feeling the sting of each lost chance

Beckoned into the 21st century
I feel the sting of our history
I watch as your train leaves the station
And I worry about final destination

Exchanged whispers fallen through time
Confessions of things that can't be but are sublime
My world feels spun out of control
In losing you, I fear I have lost my soul

Feeling deeply that if no apology will do
I should not be here or to ever bother you
From heartbreak to soul shake it hurts to learn
But, having done what I've done, it burns as it burns

Beauty In A Blade of Grass

It isn’t so long ago that mental illness was seen as the Devil’s work.  I was watching a show tonight and it reminded me of this.

Channel Island Mental Hospital - He Had Heard Selfies Were In Vogue

Beauty In A Blade of Grass
by Michael Romani

Scratching at the walls
Of asylum's fear
Faded memories recall
Only one being there

Anger and sadness
Different shades of the same
Two sides of madness
Brought on by shame

Touched by Satan's wrath
Deep inside my soul
Won't wash away in a bath
Feeling sweeping out of control

Pinky swears and promises
Have no part in this scene
Life lived by compromises
Approaching the obscene

Step by step
Sanity's edged away
One tragic misstep
Brings closure to the day

God no longer knows me
He has abandoned me as lost
Just another soul carved in poetry
Smiling at the pain and cost

Touched by Satan's claw
I am the black sheep foretold
Living life as an outlaw
Whose soul has been sold

Translucent in my perception
There is beauty in a blade of grass
Wicked in my conception
But, this too shall pass

Put Quite Simply

Sometimes mistakes, even huge mistakes happen.  I think this has lately become a sticking point to and for me.  I will never be perfect and sometimes am in need of forgiveness.  Doesn’t mean I don’t regret my errors.  It means I do my best to make amends and pray for forgiveness from any I have hurt and from God.  All that is left is to repent and amend my ways.   What’s that thing about being a man of constant sorrows? When I hurt anyone, especially someone I love, I know that I have hurt that person and myself.  I apologize and seek forgiveness.  And I change my ways.  I don’t know what else to do…

Footprints In our Hearts, Build A Life

Put Quite Simply
by Michael Romani

Put quite simply...
The problem is credibility
Talk is cheap, she says
Supply exceeds demand, she says
Boy, you're going to have to show me
She says, as though she doesn't know me

It seems, sometimes, to me
That there is the distinct possibility
That my age has not brought wisdom
Sometimes, it feels like I'm fairly dumb
With some of the missteps and mistakes
Like this avalanche of heartbreak

It seems, sometimes, that age comes alone
And I just wish she would throw me a bone
She says, boy you're going to have to show me
I swear, I believe it's as if she doesn't know me
But, I know that in two days
And in just as many ways

That tomorrow will be yesterday
Hopefully, healing will find its way
And as time passes, I think hopefully
I hope she'll see clear eventually
That despite my mistakes spilled on a page
She's the one I want to love in my old age

And that while I wish I were always correct
I am only perfectly prone to being imperfect
I can only hope with my consistency
She'll come to see and believe in me
No truer words have ever been spoke
That if it's not so very broke

Don't fix it until its undone
But instead, forgive and love this one
Who thinks of her with each rising sun
And always wants her to turn us into one
Maybe if I told her Ben Franklin said this
She'd look past my mistakes and to forgiveness?

All of this I take with humor, I say and know
That I intend to love her forever and not let go
I tell her this at every turn and that I learn
And that I need her to just maybe discern
That a man doesn't twist and turn this deep
If he hasn't made a promise that he intends to keep
