Pig Faced Penelope
by Michael Romani

A slap on the face to high society
Trapped on trappings of notoriety
The plastic veneer lacks in integrity
So it begins, the tale of pig faced Penelope

The shallowness of faking true
The audacity of being protected from being you
Makes for a playroom of imagination
As a vain attempt to find some distraction

Some try to prevent exposure to real truth
As they pretend to protect our innocence of youth
And we only look toward the layers of the surface
Afraid of finding the goodness to rich to embrace

Made to suffer from her mother's indignity
All for the cause of her surface being less pretty
Played out in a library of first editions' priceless
Missed points as games played out without niceness

Running from ourselves until we find the last gate
Opening in to attempt to escape from shame and hate
Finding outside a city of a thousand amazing lights
Out in the thousand faces of the city's jaded night

It's there that we learn to love ourselves are we care
Entirely just for the who of who it is we are
It is this secret that finally at last reveals our best
In learning to be and love who we are, we pass life's test

Humbled To the Stumble

The thing about prayers is that while God answers them all, it is not always with a “yes”.  Sometimes it’s wait. Sometimes it’s an outright no.  At all times, we need to trust that the answer that works for God’s greater plan is the answer given.  Each answer needs to be accepted with humility.

To Dance With You Under the Fireworks

Humbled To the Stumble
by Michael Romani

Humbled to the stumble
Watching my world crumble
At your every goodbye wave
I am carried to my grave

At the thought of never
Being even close to clever
And never seeing you again
My lover and my friend

Locked in this gray cell
Wishing on my wishing well
Loving you with all of my ability
Needing you beyond all capability

The only thing known
Is what's been shown
Love will find its way
We'll be together someday

First Principles: Let Knowledge and Virtue Enable Your Motives Through Life In Acting To Relieve the Distressed, Detect Fraud, Defeat Oppression and Diffuse Happiness

“Learning is not virtue but the means to bring us an acquaintance with it. Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful. Let these be your motives to action through life, the relief of the distressed, the detection of frauds, the defeat of oppression, and diffusion of happiness.” – Nathanael Greene

Seeking Wisdom

Sometimes it seems hard to find wisdom in these times we live in.

LEA17 -The Tarot Gaden - Hands Grasped In Prayer

Seeking Wisdom
by Michael Romani

In this day of the endless age
We find our best truth isn't from the sages
But, as we still seek out our best wisdom
We find it from the heavenly kingdom

Some say that culture is due to change
But seldom before has it been this strange
We find ourselves flipping our minds
Now wanting to be outdated or left behind

Always looking out for one step ahead
No matter how dizzy this makes our heads
Listening more to pundits than our hearts
Yet, feeling that wrong from the start

Leaving behind what we called history
Heading further into the 21st Century
Yet, finding ourselves wondering why
Every bridge we cross makes us sigh

Maybe some things are best left to prayer
Even as we wonder if God is really there
Pondering the imponderables no matter how sincere
Often leads to a path of dark forested ways of fear

God teaches us to be anxious for nothing
As we keep clinging onto every little something
Instead of resting in our assurances of blessing
Sometimes wearing our Christianity like window dressing

I find comfort reading Psalms in our Holy Book
Knowing as I turn the aging pages and look
That even David with his heart so close to God's own
Had his trembles of doubt shaking his faith alone

Wondering maybe were God was on the darkest nights
Gazing up to the firmament and counting starry lights
Yet knowing beyond all reason and all of his knowing
That his reliance on God was and always be growing

Tonight on this night, I find myself seeing the wisdom
In pursuing all the keys to that only sacred kingdom
And I breath easy knowing that my soul can rest
Having once again shown it can and will always pass the test

First Principles: Without Liberty, Law Becomes Oppression

“Without liberty, law loses its nature and its name, and becomes oppression. Without law, liberty also loses its nature and its name, and becomes licentiousness.” – James Wilson (1790)

In You, I Find My Spirituality

Sometimes when you look into the eyes of who you love, you see there not only them but the essence of God and that they are in many ways the messenger you might best listen to as they offer insights and the world as they see it.

In You, I Find My Spirituality
by Michael Romani

The face that frames my skull
Tries its best to conceal it all
For every why there is a why not
For every thought, one is forgot

Startled by the pieces of reality
As these are framed with surreality
Cocktails for two taken mentality
Seem to find our core like spirituality

Everything different in the sameness
Shed skin in life lived with lameness
Of those things that pass everyday
Yet, remain remarkable in every way

Flecks of anxiousness seen in your eyes
Too many moments lived in dull surprise
As the shattered glass sobers the drinker
Into something sadder than a lone thinker

I realize that what I like best about me is you
You have brought in me so much beautiful and true
In wanting to know the depths of your feeling
You, my dear, have sent heart and thought reeling

Not reeling out of control, but, as in flight
As in knowing the freedom felt in our every night
And knowing that you are the deepest part of me
Everyday smiled as I keep you in my company

Thought For the Day: Embrace Life and Live Everyday With Passion

“The best thing in life is to go ahead with all your plans and your dreams, to embrace life and to live everyday with passion, to lose and still keep the faith and to win while being grateful. All of this because the world belongs to those who dare to go after what they want. And because life is really too short to be insignificant.” – Charlie Chaplin
