Joy In the Gifts of Hard Times

The challenge for Na/GloPoWriMo Day 7 is to write a poem about gifts and joy.  Above this challenge was a bit about how poetry can prove quite the therapeutic tool.  I can see this easily from my own life.  From this and my faith, I have written the following poem.

Garden of Whimsy Christmas Hunt - Blissful Joy

Joy In the Gifts of Hard Times
by Michael Romani

In times of abundance there are reasons
Enough for joy and gifts in all seasons
But, even as I go through despair and agony
There are reasons enough to be thankful for me

Making my way through times of difficulty
The gifts and joy help bring me clarity
Bringing me close to my nature and soul
Grasping at moments in a world spiraling out of control

Today, and each day, is a day to celebrate
Even when a world turned upside down negates
But cause for rejoicing does not depend on circumstance
Nor does it depend on given happenstance

Faith is the key to my hope of blessed salvation
Like holding my daughters' hands in any situation
I find our faith is proven in every difficulty
And so I find joy and gratitude in my loving family

This genuine faith produces our devotion of joy
And I'm sure it's the same for all who find and employ
Faith walks with joy through the gifts of hard times
With each passing moment spent as something sublime

In my little girls, my hope is faithfully kept alive
It's in the support of good friends that I do survive
The gifts given on even my darkest, bleakest days
Allow me to focus on the good in a million ways

It's in this faith that I do find I can believe
And in its proof is that which allows me to conceive
Finding that I know such gifts as faith, joy and love
That such hope makes this earth more like Heaven above

Finding Heart’s True Home

Based in part on Acts 13:22:

Grauland -Tide Poolin'

Finding Heart's True Home
by Michael Romani

Living life hoping for a little dignity
Depending on His not my priority
Putting that which matters to him
Above my desires and my whims

All of these thing are at my foundation
To build my way toward His destination
I am learning to love as He loves us all
Heeding my best as best that I can recall

Secondly, to love my neighbor as my self
To study His word in my life not from a shelf
It's a life long commitment and connection
Always heading in the right and true direction

He or she who will do God's will is who is still
And comes to live out our best in this ordeal
Every single person that we meet on the street
Matters to God and we should always greet

As a sister and brother, whatever they endure
God's love is the truest and best sort of cure
The Shepherd will leave the 99 to save that one
Saving the least of these is His Will be done

Starting there, remember we are here to serve
The richest of all duties is what we deserve
If among us, we wish in full heart to be great
We must indeed pursue a servant's humble fate

Asking not so much what God will do for me
But what I might do for God's house sincerely
Using my talents and abilities to serve others
To the betterment of all my sisters and brothers

Each of us has a path which we must attend
Each of us stumbled by obstacles we contend
Becoming the person God means us to be
Transforming into the best you and best me

If We Would Wish To Heal

Playing a bit of catch up from yesterday in that my life changed dramatically and not for the better, I am combining the sixth day of Na/GloPoWriMo’s goal of a poem about if and the woulds, coulds, and shoulds of life with a poem about continuing to learn a new approach toward wellness.  It’s a little hard to write right now as my soul is far from any center of balance.  But sometimes the only way is through and not around.

Grauland -Grated Palaron

If We Would Wish To Heal
by Michael Romani

What is it that you would
Do that would be more than you should?
To walk back from the negative toward good
That is, I mean, if you only could?

Embracing the bravery and spirituality
Even when it has proved past my capability
You see, it remains more than true
That I am afraid to die without peace with you

I need to feel that miracle inside
The you gave me and I wanted to ride
To the better me that I know I can be
If only, you'd believe still in the best of me

The power of belief is almost everything
It's the universal melody that I long to sing
The toggled switch back to a place of rest and repair
Away from those things that served to impair

There is a biology there in our belief
That gets us past places of harm and grief
What selects the choice made by our cells
Is how our environment effect our genetic Book of Kells

Consciousness interprets our very perceptions
Making the world a matter more of interpretation
The subconscious absorbs all that surrounds
In doing this, it decides what emotions will abound

Our reactions become our triggers of drama
How we get past these inform our trauma
If we can learn better ways of interacting
We can move forward instead of always reacting

If we can learn to turn and face our shadows
We can outgrow fear, put away ignorance and grow
The problem is the portal of our very perceptions
Recognition of this will get us past life's deceptions

Most of us walk through life somewhat apathetic
Stemming from earlier experiences of feeling pathetic
Or, at least this is true among the walking wounded
Who haven't figured this out and how the world has colluded

Self images that need the deepest healing
If only we are ready and find ourselves willing
If only I might ask for help to overcome
I and we might move toward becoming less numb

Closed off to all that we know that we should
And if instead we give ourselves permission we could
Create the spaces needed to gain true awareness
Of how our disease manifests and become our barrenness

The barrenness of a lifetime's massed accumulation
That lead to diseases we know as our destination
If we want to decrease dis-ease from our within
We must increase our peace either now or then
