Thought For the Day: Open Borders Mean More Crime In the US

“Whenever President Trump talks about illegal immigration, he frequently says that open borders means more crime. Predictably, left-wing pundits accuse the president of being ‘xenophobic,’ even though he often praises legal immigration. But the president is absolutely correct. Not every illegal immigrant coming across the border is looking for work and a better life. According to government statistics, illegal aliens make up 21% of the federal prison population. The 730,000 criminal aliens in state and federal prisons were responsible for 7.5 million offenses. … None of these crimes should have happened. The only reason they did happen is because of the gross malfeasance of liberal politicians who refuse to secure the border. … Trump is right when he says Democrats are the party of illegal immigration and crime.” – Gary Bauer

To reiterate, please let this sink in.  There is zero dispute to these stats:

According to government statistics, illegal aliens make up 21% of the federal prison population. The 730,000 criminal aliens in state and federal prisons were responsible for 7.5 million offenses. … None of these crimes should have happened.

The question should be, why isn’t every thinking person alarmed at this?

No one I know of is against legal, ethical migration.   Is it unreasonable to simply state the facts and make sound decisions based on these?

Catch & Release

Am I alone in seeing that the world has its moments of understated brilliance?

Memorial to Operation Enduring Freedom - War .. What It is It's Good For

Catch and Release
by Michael Romani

Writing to write, so it seems
Is often the child of unknown dreams
Miscast, recanted or fully embraced
The soul of a writer is often disgraced

Laid barren as its sort of super power
Each story is a blossom uniquely in flower
Mastering the discipline of a Shaolin fighter
Early days and late nights spent on typewriter

Looking to the skies as air becomes fire
The affect is elemental and filled with desire
Every word reflecting the resemblance of things done
Contrasting differences between the many and the one

Taken in singular, standing out in the crowd
One quiet whisper lays mysteriously loud
Speaking above the ashes in native resilience
An indestructible blink of understated brilliance

There in the limbo zone of impossibility
Are the horrors of things seen in reality
Things that are never meant to be seen
Leaving the survivors scooped to half human beings

These are the truths seen through that door
Where the inhumanity of man at war
Plays out in its continuous loop
That demands to be spoken of out on the stoop

Jump cuts and freeze frames tell the story
Of times when only fools speak of glory
A high wire throat clearing of self announcement
Shatters the silence with each pronouncement

And so it goes with the shifting voltage of phrase
Knowing beyond knowing that each life is lived in phase
Sometimes life comes at you in straight deadpan
Reality teaches its lessons forming the man

Scripture and physics form the best of each
As we grasp from life what it might teach
Shattered until we learn to dwell in the pieces
A divine light shines as the Fisherman catches and releases

A Pillow’s Talk of Things

The ninth day of Na/GloPoWriMo is based on the lists found in Sei Shonagon’ s The Pillow Talk.  As the hour has grown later than I had hoped and only just recently finished a show along with a late dinner and thinking on things that perhaps I have no right to do, a decision needed to be made. Being not so imaginative when forced to write to someone else’s desires, I have decided to turn the book into a guide of lists for the things I think about someone very uniquely and deeply special to me wherever tomorrow may bring us.

Home, Sweet, Home - Home With My Angel

A Pillow's Talk of Things
by Michael Romani

Despite the troubles that walk my way
All the confusions of my busy day
I find myself confiding in one heart
The one I hope will never, ever part

Especially delightful in her attitude
Finding my thoughts filled with gratitude
She fills my life with fruits of laughter
Chasing the clouds away here ever after

It has been this way since the first day
That she sat down beside me in her own way
Sharing a poet's moment in words shared
And from that moment, I knew she has cared

By her grace, so many things have lost power
Like wanting to chase circles in endless hours
You might think in a thousand ways of diffidence
But she, in her love, has proven me the difference

Along our way, she has shared many adorable things
Like a tree house and the way she makes my heart sing
Looking at me nose to nose, lips to lips and eye to eye
This one woman has the solitary power to make me cry

She has the best ways of using her beautiful imagination
Constantly bringing to me some new sort of fascination
Playing games with rules that share the best intention
That she and I show each other respect and our attention

So that I know that it is only my own internal impression
That ever leads me to tears, upset and sad depression
I have seen countless times that she has our very best
In mind and heart and that is me who puts this to the test

And it is this knowledge about me that I very much hate
Vowing to conquer this beast inside before it's too late
The tears that I have made her cry make me what to sigh
The worse of it is that there has been no good reason why

Startled by the sound of raindrops, my heart beats faster
Completely mesmerized and tantalized by this spell caster
Her enchantments have spun me ever increasingly deeper
And if she allows me to, I know that in my heart I will keep her

All our nights spent under a clear moon with fond memories
Of questions asked and played out under the coolest breeze
I feel as though I have known and loved her in lifetimes past
And that in this lifetime, I want and need our love to last

There in all the delightful things that she gives and brings
Are the things that make my soul rise up to swoon and sing
Her voice, her smile, her words are increasingly entwined
In all of the very best of me or so I constantly find

I look at my lady love awkwardly and yet with best intention
Giving her some times the best and some times worse rendition
Watching her purity as clean as a sparkle on the water
Knowing that she surely is beloved and precious as God's daughter

And this makes all my life a very good and precious thing
Until that inner beast in me has it's turn in what it brings
Sadly I despise myself at times knowing that it is her grace
That saves us time after time as I look at the love on her face

Thought For the Day: Poetry Began With An Awe That Surpassed the Wisdom of Words

“I think that were beginning to remember that the first poets didn’t come out of a classroom, that poetry began when somebody walked off of a savanna or out of a cave and looked up at the sky with wonder and said, “Ahhh.” That was the first poem.”–  Lucille Clifton

All My Little Fails

Sometimes even I’m amazed at mistakes that I make.  Have you ever had moments when you  just want to fall on your knees and pray that God doesn’t give up on you cause you’re a step away of giving up on yourself?

Light Thoughts 3 - Struggle

All My Little Fails
by Michael Romani

All of the little fails
Of my complexity
Lost in the private Hell
Of my social anxiety

Believing that everyone
Sees that I'm not good enough
Feeling a more than half alone
And unwilling to play the bluff

I find my way though blind
Half convinced the world is unkind
When you were here you brought your smile
Making every moment worth while

It's funny that while you're forgetting me
I remember your presence so sublimely
That I finish a poem that I started days ago
When having you felt like the end of my rainbow

It's overwhelming in this rush of pain
No longer certain that I'm quite sane
I fall on my knees again and again
Praying for my lost soul now as then

I see the pain that I've caused you
And that you won't let it go will you
I have apologized nine times now
And yet that's not enough somehow

You tell me that I am nothing but fake
And you can't believe that my heart breaks
I'll tell you a tenth time, I am sorry
Please know this and forgive me

Still, I understand that you don't
And I see from your words that you won't
I have failed you and in doing that
I have failed me, it's just a fact

A Response To Naysaying Pill Pushing Slashers and Gassers

Na/GloPoWriMo Day 8’s challenge is to use the slang and jargon of a profession.  It sort of runs in opposition of my day to day job’s admonishment to avoid jargon in favor of the familiar.. but who am I to question, right?  I chose the medical profession in England’s jargon and chose to use it in a story form…

Kanaloa -Better Days Bluez

A Response To Naysaying Pill Pushing Slashers and Gassers
by Michael Romani

It was a moment of arrested development
When the patient refused a decision for no trial
Still, feeling a sense of dread's envelopment
He would not give up and yet was not in denial

The doctors spoke of circling the drain
Being called normal for Norfolk caused some strain
Still, it remained his well stated belief
That perhaps it was the time for some TEETH

It wasn't much of a shocking discovery
To find the pill pushers diminished hope for recovery
No one had ever accused him of acute pnuemoencephalopathy
Nor was Acute Thespian Syndrome his cited pathology

So being unready to leave his so called life behind
And certain as he was that no one would mind
The patient set himself off in a direction
Certain it couldn't hurt to try his mind-body's connection
