Happy St Patrick’s Day 2019

To all the readers and viewers of this blog and the accompanying Flickr photos, Aloha Promises Forever wishes you and yours:

May the shamrocks be as soft as you please

May your dogs never wake up with fleas

May tomorrow always somehow out shine

All the yesterdays you believed so fine

May we always find a time to raise a toast

And even more for those that we love most

On Outrunning Grief

You cannot outrun grief.

Garden of Absentia & Memorial - So Many Sorrows Floating Into the Night

On Outrunning Grief
by Michael Romani

It has been said
And I assume it's true
Words from inside my head
That same for me; the same for you

You hide yours in a diary
I keep mine locked inside me
Both of us seeking relief
But we cannot outrun our grief

The more our hope appears
It seems just as quietly to disappear
The secret is known from the start
Each of us must follow our hearts

The world is not so dark
That we'll fall apart on a lark
And I am not such a victim of blindness
That I don't feel every bit of your kindness

The heart knows as much as the brain
We know this feeling though we strain
The words that I wish I could say
I'll have to show you in another way

First Principles: Our Liberties Are A Gift From God

“And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever.”  – Thomas Jefferson

Tumbleweed Connection

Based in part on The Epistle to the Philippians 3:7-14:

Mirage Motel 66- Broken Windmill Acrross A Desert Sky

Tumbleweed Connection
by Michael Romani

You only have this life to live
For its worse and what it might give
But each of us lives each day
One at a time with no other way

Life is not any sort of dress rehearsal
There are second chances but not reversal
From the instant that the curtain falls
We live each moment as fate will call

Each day lived is the performance of our life
Be each day lived in earnest peace or in strife
We journey each day fully intending our destination
Losing ground with each loss to procrastination

Here then is the process of keeping our direction
We find life is more than a tumbleweed connection
Seizing each day to grab it and live it to the full
Small hat all cowboy never afraid to ride the bull

Each of our days numbered to gain each more wisdom
That we might live our days according to the kingdom
So little time and so very much to for each of us to do
And so it must be lived each the fullest by me and you

To do this we must keep in mind three little things
These things to be done no matter what the day brings
Each day we need to let go of all that is done and past
No longer holding on to the things that were ill cast

Nor should we hold to the good lived in our yesterday
But, must indeed travel on our journey to find our way
Whatever gains these matter little for Christ's good sake
It is each new day that we must resolve to live and make

Having left the road of the past in that left behind
It's our duty to step forward keeping this in mind
No looking to the past but keeping focus on our journey
It's the here and now that gets us to our destiny

Straining forward and toward those things heavenward
Doing today what makes today paving ever forward
It is the step taken right each moment that pleases
Giving glory to God's sacred day in all its bits and pieces

There's a gold nugget in aiming past what's above you
Forward and past the mark of calling in all we aim to do
There in each of our heartfelt callings is that needed reach
That presses on our souls to live and walk what we preach

With a hammer and chisel in hand we build our road
Persisting in what we do as we know that it's told
There in our highest calling we follow the Lord's way
Living with our fullest intention each and every day

Scorpion’s Sting

Danger is the stranger that leaves us curious enough to look closer…

The Cove - Offshore Tentacles

Scorpion's Sting
by Michael Romani

We stain our souls
In our house of pain
Nothing left to console
As we flail against the strain

Venom of the scorpion calls
Into the veins filled with danger
The truth of claws sells
Even as we remain strangers

Seldom stopping to observe
We somehow miss the wonder
Perhaps it is what we deserve
Ricocheting blunder to blunder

Someone has to care for the broken
Those shattered; those shunned
These words so seldom spoken
Rest outplayed and outgunned

Peer into the looking glass
Among the dusty cases
Where the curious might pass
Before the trap embraces

Hello Brother

Hatred stokes the fear that burns across our world in random outcroppings of rage and destruction.  That being said, to take away the people’s right to bear arms and defend themselves seems like an ill thought out consequence, Madam Prime Minister…In doing so you have only left those with bad intentions armed and the decent folks waiting to be victims.

Dolce Amore Beach - Bamboo Hideout

Hello Brother
by Michael Romani

Hello brother
He greeted
The man with the gun
Offering peace
Offering love
Offering another
Another way of being
Another way of seeing
And was as quickly done
God grants his release

Hello brother
Can we walk awhile
Maybe find reason to smile
Please put away your hate
You know it's not too late
I see that you know pain
I know it makes you insane
Maybe we could just talk
If you'd only come and walk
And put it away and wait

A fascist hating the different
Another man being reverent
One of them not really there
Filled with disdain and fear
The other fully awake and present
One with heart and ears
The other only with his fears
It might have ended differently
The world whispers reverently
But, it didn't...

Article 19 (The Burden of Secularism)

I have been reading through a series of works by Yuval Noah Harai that seems topical and a historian’s blend of philosophy and history projecting into humanity’s future.  It’s been challenging and is spawning a few poems that are often in rebuttal of what I’m reading.   I do believe, however, that there appears to be some worth to be gained by nearly all in having at least a passing familiarity with the topics he touches on.

Occupy SL - Wall of Loud Mouth Murderous Thugs

Article 19 (The Burden of Secularism)
by Michael Romani

Not to be too stark in my pessimism
Wishing I could only speak with optimism
But the ideals of mass secularization
Sometimes strikes at liberty with particularism

The secularists pretend commitment to the truth
But over and again since the day of my youth
I have been witness to dogmatic hypocrisy
When confronted with the failures of their legacy

Some who believe in this secular sort of fashion
Believe they are and have the truest means of compassion
Never understanding that they value stems from God's law
And secularism is but a faint echo deep within the Fall

Too often eagerly embracing their flawed Marxism
Which has proven itself fraudulent in its catechism
Bringing to our world a hurt full of abject misery
Than we have ever before seen in our human history

Staking a claim for the just cause of needed equality
The reality is too often just the rise of another hierarchy
Claiming itself the path toward greater freedom
Each technocracy has proven more oppressive then kingdoms

Teaching our children that they are more earth's citizens
The has come to reduce us all to sordid global denizens
By pretending free thinking conquers all the unknown
They have instead lifted an elite from humanity's shadow

Lacking ethical commitment and but falsified responsibility
Society has lost its moral compass and its capability
Catchy slogans and inspirationally false battle cries
Does not replace real truth from top down sorts of lies

There is an insistence on decrying the ignorance of masses
As the beloved leaders burn our world into yesterday's ashes
Replacing mercy with the wanton extermination of millions
These prophets of Marxism have come to enslave billions

Acknowledging the shadow and weight of industrialization
The ways of truth have given away to progressive modernization
Freedom has given way to the dictatorship of the majority
And with this come successive losses in our strained morality

Secularism has bled its cold shower of dogmatic abuse
With its dissenters sentenced to the gulags ill put to use
While finding fragments of faith in our shared humanity
Truth seeking has been laid to frozen waste out of vanity

Prophets of the godless continue to drag down our humanity
Pretending to be self righteous while tearing at our dignity
Declaring that everyone has a right to opinion's self expression
Because after all, they wouldn't want to leave a bad impression

There remains that every creed must bear its own shadow
Mistakes and blindspots that lead down the wrong road
Time has shown the value of knowing our inclined ignorance
And in these constraints, the need to find our tolerance
