Unique Just Means Alone

They say no man is an island.  Perhaps for some of us, it would be better if we were.

Yasminia -A Practical Sense of Her Special Magic

Unique Just Means Alone
by Michael Doyle

I guess it doesn't matter if it's deserved
That special designation that's been reserved
It's perhaps a fact to be exact
That one does one's best to keep intact
That part of the soul that is one's dignity
Trying to keep a moral compass without rigidity
And as it turns out, being unique just means alone
Deeply compelled to wishing for a heart of stone
Doing one's best to always do one's very best
As though life were merely an extended test

Then one thinks that one has finally found
That light of life that one would keep around
Only to find that the more that things change
They stay the same only as as they rearrange
And he once had struggled to learn to walk
Had become a runner of whom others would talk
And those who keep silent have more to say
It's funny how it seems to always turnout this way
And still as the globe spins it spins alone
As a very special rock desperately seeking to atone

Wild Winds

As mentioned before, it is birthday weekend for a very sweet daughter whose gentle spirit and artistic ways make me a better man in every way.  I am so proud to be her father.  I thought it might be, and it was, beneficial to teach the girls a bit more of one of the most distinctive creatures that has graced the history of our great nation.  It seems even more so that in these perilous times of a myriad of challenges that the buffalo aka bison has faced it’s near ending tragedy and come back from the brink of extinction in a new and growing vibrancy.   I hope as a daddy that if nothing else, I will have served the girls well in the simple things I get to share with them along the way.

Wild Winds
by Michael Doyle

Birthday weekend for my eldest daughter
To both of them, I am proud to be their father
Saturday spent in a long drive's conversation
I have seldom known such sweet fascination

Time spent with them is my soul's open door
To learn more about them and to jointly explore
Playfully we banter, in our steady back and forth
As I drive several hours essentially due north

The journey there to the preserved Wild Winds
Is a time of song and talking with daughters as friends
Outside the windows it is stormy and raining
But each moment is a treasure of which there is no complaining

Explaining that cows run from storm and buffalos charge forward
We progress mile by mile until we arrive ever toward
The moments are worth the stormy torment's flicker
Ad as we move along, we know we'll get through quicker

Once was a time that the buffalo were plentiful
Now the few remaining, remain as something wonderful
Great beasts with swung horns of quiet distinction
We are blessed they haven't met their extinction

I teach the girls of their and the bison's tenacity
And of the wilderness' strength even in vulnerability
We talk of future trips kayaking down along rivers
Ever thankful for our Father, the Great Creator

In these moments, I'm assured of our salvation
For the buffalo's families and our great nation
Preserved as these are in their present captivity
I feel the future safer in the love and in our liberty

Brought back from the edge of veritable tragedy
The world is less dim despite its risks of calamity
There and here in the faint marks of an old trace
Are the buffalo dreams and the love these embrace

Thought For the Day: The Greatest Gift A Parent Can Give A Child Is Unconditional Love

“The greatest gift a parent can give a child is unconditional love. As a child wanders and strays, finding his bearings, he needs a sense of absolute love from a parent. There’s nothing wrong with tough love, as long as the love is unconditional.” –  George H W Bush

Although it was a stormy sort of rain filled day, I took the girls to see the buffalo preserve up in Freemont, Indiana.   It was worth every mile driven to see their amazement and to share this with them.  Once was a time, when Indiana was filled with buffalos and the dreams these bring.

Now, as my girls lay tucked into bed and heading toward their own dreams, I feel the love that shines from 5 hours in our SUV holding conversations and sharing songs and know that there is nothing in the world that compares to watching my little girls grow into the young ladies they are and the persons that they are becoming.

People ask if I regret having moved to Indiana from my prior life.  Not a chance do I regret this gift from God.  Despite differing perceptions, I am loving every minute that I get learning and knowing their perceptions, thoughts, aspirations, likes and dislikes.

There’s not been a moment since before even I helped deliver them into this world that I have not been in total awe of my little ladies.   Love is being a daddy to two brilliantly beautiful beings who radiate their own gifts into this world and knowing that I am allowed the privilege to love them dearly each day extra that I get in this world.

First Principles: Our Contest Is Not Only Whether We…Shall Be Free, But Whether There Shall Be Left To Mankind An Asylum On Earth For Civil and Religious Liberty

“Courage, then, my countrymen, our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty.” – Samuel Adams, in Speech at the State House, Philadelphia (August 1, 1776)

Thought For the Day: The Same People Who Said Trump Would Destroy America Are Currently Burning America To the Ground

“The same people who said Trump would destroy America are currently burning America to the ground.” – Ryan Fournier

It is increasingly looking like we’re about to have a major blow out as each side ramps up and the Democrats keep backing up lawlessness.   I pray it doesn’t erupt.  But, it’s looking bad at the moment.   The Left is forcing something bad to happen for America.

Lessons of Sadie Hawkins

Life in its myriad of dances has it’s meaning sometimes coming in multiples of delusion…

The Mad Circus 4 Halloween- Some Ferris Wheels Have Seen Fairer Daze

Lessons of Sadie Hawkins
by Michael Doyle

Sock hop memories wake the school
Where twists in plot are the rule
All of life is filtered in its distraction
Where television and other screens are the attraction

Roman circuses pass out their bread
So that the common man feels less dread
Time springs its ideas into reason
As life unfolds with the changing seasons

One by one, our days quietly fadeaway
From wherever they went, when they went astray
There's so much laughter to our side's shake
That we wonder if we dream when we're awake

Song titles become themes to live by
As a symptom of the desperation by which we try
To stuff away as if it's growth to persevere
While really all we're doing is passing through here

Comically implausible we compete for nothing
Cosmically impossible we make everything into something
All of this in an effort to make our connection
As life spins us around in a million directions

Life lived splits its long sense of division
As we subject ourselves in morbid derision
Until there we are at our last turn of page
Easing our pain from all of our empty rage

Giving it up for the costs of lost love
As we keep our eyes reaching to the above
Sarcastic in the turns of our phrase
Most of our life is spent in its daze

Winchester I. The Arrival

There is a famous house in California built the widow of the same Winchester who invented the famous rifle of the same name.

Winchester

I. The Arrival
by Michael Doyle

The bell tolls in the dark of night
While the man awakes feeling less than right
She wakes with a start and down the stairs
All falls into place with her haunted stare

Blood drips down the muralled wall
While the doctor asks that she might recall
It is pointless after all to live life in fear
He offers up as though that might bring cheer

To take back control is to move past illusion
Removing all that which causes pain and confusion
It's only in the mind that fear takes control
And when you move past this, you regain your soul

A mother reaches out beyond her son's death
On a spiritualist journey unto her last breath
Repeating like the rifles that constantly fire
A wounded mother's heart will never tire

Her husband also gone, the widow builds in expansion
Endless rooms going nowhere in her chaotic mansion
Reclusive and staggered into endless cycles of grief
What then is too great a price to find relief

The good doctor arrives at the end of his journey
To a house greater than any else he might survey
The medium had declare the the need to build and build
And such was a mother's desperation revealed

Though the drapes of wind blowing through a window
Every creak and groan lends its fear to the shadow
All for the hope that in at least one of a hundred rooms
The widow might yet find escape from her gloom

Wishes to be respected are set as her vapid rules
Time then becomes the tempest suffered by fools
Doubt is self whispered into the mirror
Where self-inflicted horror is always ever nearer
