First Principles: Nothing Is More Certain Than That A General Profligacy and Corruption of Manners Make A People Ripe For Destruction

“Nothing is more certain than that a general profligacy and corruption of manners make a people ripe for destruction. A good form of government may hold the rotten materials together for some time, but beyond a certain pitch, even the best constitution will be ineffectual, and slavery must ensue.” – John Witherspoon (1776)

Attorney General Barr is having to go to Capitol Hill today to explain that attempting to kill our police officers, burning buildings and throwing feces at other officers is bad and in violation of the law.   How has my nation become governed by folks who cannot even read the basic tenets of the law?  I am going to have to put this under willful ignorance and carry on.

Lessons From Life’s Jungles

There are laws that are met in all jungles be these forested or concrete.  The two most vital are survival and truth.

The Jungle Beach Bar & Grill - Why Did the Snake Cross the Road?

Lessons From Life's Jungles
by Michael Doyle

The jungle has two laws
Survival and truth
There is no escape clause
From learning these firm from our youth

Fortunately, it's never too late
To learn the things we must
Streets or jungle, we change our fate
And it starts with learning trust

Life's lessons needed to be learned
From opportunities often less than ample
Are often the ones best earned
When taught by example

Our choices often make monkeys of us
So, it's best just to take with humor
These moments in life simply because
Bitterness becomes the worse tumor

In parts unknown, keep close to shore
To keep yourself our of danger's jaws
You never know quite what's in store
When you ignore the jungle's laws

A lesson learned is to be strong
Is to live life being fair
Each person and thing belongs
In its own particular somewhere

Live life as straight as an arrow
Always eyes forward forgetting the past
The path taken will often be narrow
If you want the best of life to last

In no jungle is there room for lies
Which come really from anger at one's self
It should come as no real surprise
That life's best lessons are not learned from a shelf

Logical Pursuit

Though it ultimately comes down to faith, belief is also about evidence and applying logic to this evidence.

My Surreal World in Plusia Land -Linked Palmistry

Logical Pursuit
by Michael Doyle

Saying no over and over and then again
Is the path of righteousness that we walk
The path chosen is not perfection from sin
But that habitually we choose to follow our talk

This then is our new path of integrity
Declining to walk in the darkness
But walking instead in light and purity
Not sinless but sinning less despite life's harshness

The Lord has taken our place in death
Giving us new life in which to live
And it's meant to be lived in holiness to our least breath
Living in love and in all things to forgive

The newness of life begins at the cross
With our Lord we too are crucified
In this, we gain; it is not our loss
In His name, we have become sanctified

Never mind the excuses of authenticity
In letting that get in the way of transformation
Regardless of the seeming enormity
Let's God's plan serve as your explanation

Saved as we are from our immorality
We owe a debt given in gratitude
This path of holiness walks us past fatality
Giving to each of us the best sort of attitude

Each of us comes to the world as a work in progress
Hardened hearts given way to ones of love
In that fallibility to which we must confess
We earnestly seek our way into Heaven above

Knowing full well that sin will reign when it can
And knowing deeper, we are less under law than grace
Its the same for us all; every woman and man
Let our Holy God's will be what we embrace

Decisions are simpler with priorities clear
We know what it is that we need
And whose ways to cling to; keeping these near
It's the ways of God taken to seed

Repentance paves the way to restoration
As the Holy Spirit fingers our conviction
We work our way from milk to spiritual maturation
May our prayers be that our walk gives this indication

First Principles: The Only Foundation of A Free Constitution Is Pure Virtue

“The only foundation of a free Constitution, is pure Virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our People, in a greater Measure than they have it now, they may change their Rulers, and the forms of Government, but they will not obtain a lasting Liberty.” – John Adams (1776)

In His Faithfulness

Based in part on Romans 6:

The Bizzare House - In the Key of Sharpened Dissonance

In His Faithfulness
by Michael Doyle

For all our fears and all of our doubt
The Lord will guard us faithfully
Established as guard that we might work out
That the Lord has made each of us wonderfully

Even as it is that we often stumble
The Lord is faithful in His encouragement
Despite how it is that we might fumble
The Lord strengthens us in our discouragement

God is here and walks among us
Removing fear and sadness in our hearts
He does this as we know that He does
In His faithfulness that never departs

The Lord we know rewards us in what we give
Quietly, we do those things that we can
Knowing that in giving is how we live
In that same truth for every woman and man

Too often what's in our heads comes out differently
The cognitive dissonance has its way
Behavior and belief may not match so reverently
As each of us live throughout our busy day

Instead of harmony, we walk in justification
Making our best cases that our wrongs are right
Seeking out not the right path but rationalization
We seek in all manners to make dark into light

We need to ask the Lord to speak to heart
To find our way back to truth and grace
Following the right path and never depart
Choosing God's way and rightfully embrace

Death and life cannot ever truly coexist
Unchanged hearts are an unchanged life
Let us instead, do right and persist
Death, burial then resurrected from this strife

Dead to the old self and its influence
Striving to always walk in the light
God's word and our lives meet their confluence
Walking in the yoke of doing what's right

As Jesus Himself arose from the dead
We find our salvation in that authority
Let this roll gracefully around in your head
We are saved to new life through His divinity

In What We Do

Allegiance made, let us live our lives in accord with our beliefs.  This poem is based in part on John 16:33:

Whitewater River Valley II 07212020

In What We Do
by Michael Doyle

In Christ, we find our peace
While the world has its tribulation
We take heart in our release
Overcoming this world's nations

Overcoming all these things we fear
Finding strength in God, we persevere
Worshipping Jesus whatever comes
We find our peace in His Kingdom

In the spirit, we are as one
Overcoming all things said and done
Waking up to God's great glory
As the sun rises and falls into our story

Our hands raised high into the sky
In praise never in wondering why
Finding freedom in His love
We'll do our best to make earth as Heaven above

Singing out loud His sacred hymn
Finding our new life in Him
Our hearts are transformed and new
Finding our love poured out in what we do

First Principles: The Principle of Spending Money To Be Paid By Posterity, Under the Name of Funding, Is But Swindling Futurity On A Large Scale

“The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale.” – Thomas Jefferson (1816)

When we take money from others without good return, we are swindling them.  When we hold out things or ideas that cannot be done or given  and we are acting falsely in return for immediate gains that will not cause gain for those from whom we take, we are engaged in fraud.  So too then is socialism and all its false promises.   There has never been a socialist nation that has brought good to any nation.   History is replete in this being deeply evidenced.  We cannot and never will gain something from nothing.  There is always a price.

Thought For the Day: The Propagandist’s Purpose Is To Make One Set of People Forget That Certain Other Sets of People Are Human

“The propagandist’s purpose is to make one set of people forget that certain other sets of people are human.” – Aldous Huxley, novelist (26 Jul 1894-1963)

Perhaps all of America and the world needs to learn from this that the aspirations of Black Lives Matter and Antifa in America are very wrong.  It is not only black lives which matter, as they do, but, that All Life Is Sacred.    This is the communion in which we should be partaking.  Elevating any other over all others is not the way to a better world.

When Children Speak

When our children speak, we should listen.  We never know what we might learn?  If nothing else how they see the world.  And I can think of no greater gift than understanding the world through the eyes and hearts of those we most love.

Fort Wayne Children's Zoo 09022019

When Children Speak
by Michael Doyle

When our children speak for change
The temptation is to find it strange
Acting as though they are speaking in tongues
When the truth is, they are simply young

Watching my girls growing in their youth
Finding their way to the truth
When I reflect a moment, I am proud
As they tell me all as they are allowed

Some things said, I'm sure are wrong
But, I am glad they've grown up strong
Listening as they speak with reason and passion
Of things that fill them with compassion

Even when wrong, they have a way to fascinate
And I love that they are unafraid to communicate
Urging them to always talk and carry on
I see the heritage I will have left when I am gone

The price paid is worth the recompense
Worthy of all of the unintended consequence
As long as I know they will speak their hearts and minds
I will listen as they always find

There is so much beauty in their complicity
In all that they love and study with intensity
Though it may soon be that I'm looking from heaven above
I hope that what I've most taught them is to believe and love
