Thought For the Day: The Only Form of Contagion That Travels Faster Than A Virus Is Fear

“Only one form of contagion travels faster than a virus. And that’s fear.” – Dan Brown

Please people, yes, it is bad, but keep calm.  Do not give into fear and forget to live our moments of precious life given to us.   Panic helps no one.  Don’t horde.  Now is the time like no other when we must think first and foremost not only of ourselves but of our loved ones, our friends  and yes even the strangers we do not know.

We can get through this, people, one day at a time.  Yes. Some of us will likely not be here at the end of this.   I get this perhaps more than a lot of people.  I just medically retired because of my respiratory and lung problems.  But, while I am here, while all of us are here, please let’s do what we can to help each other.   Don’t take more than you need.   And for God’s sake and your own, when you see your family, friends, neighbors, even complete strangers in need of some help, let’s give them that extra toilet paper, food, encouragement, kind word, whatever it takes.

This will be what get us through this.  Not undue fear.  Not selfishness.  Not anger.  Not frustration.  Love.  Love people.  Love each other.   Love life.  Love God.   But, please love.

No one gets out alive.   That’s a certainty.  For whatever we have of our lives, let’s live it with love and kindness and foster hope and encouragement in those around us.   Let’s live the love that is the best of life until our last breath.

This is what I want; what others need, and what God wants, needs and requires of us.  I humbly ask this of the readers here. Be the difference that those is needed.   Be the love that is the best of life.   And I pray this in our Father’s holy name, Amen.

First Principles: The Ordaining of Laws In Favor of One Part of the Nation, To the Prejudice and Oppression of Another, Is Certainly the Most Erroneous Policy

“History affords us many instances of the ruin of states, by the prosecution of measures ill suited to the temper and genius of their people. The ordaining of laws in favor of one part of the nation, to the prejudice and oppression of another, is certainly the most erroneous and mistaken policy. An equal dispensation of protection, rights, privileges, and advantages, is what every part is entitled to, and ought to enjoy… These measures never fail to create great and violent jealousies and animosities between the people favored and the people oppressed; whence a total separation of affections, interests, political obligations, and all manner of connections, by which the whole state is weakened.” – Benjamin Franklin in Emblematical Representations, Circa 1774

This then is the why of the Great (but horrifying and horrible) Compromise and the rationale most behind the Electoral College.   Populations shift depending on historical circumstances.  Causes, needs and justifications push various factions within our great nation to which their preferences over the rest of the nation.   It should not be allowed and cannot be allowed if our republic is going to survive.   To be certain, this balance is increasingly complex as our population and territory expands.  More on this later.

Cursed Fate

Once upon a not so long ago, even words spoken could get you accused of all sorts of things.   Now it’s a new sort of dogma that we have to conform to or pay a wicked price.  Funny isn’t it?  The more things change the more it stays the same.

Another Fairy Tale by Cica Ghost - Dog Gone Dragon

Cursed Fate
by Michael Doyle

Cunning drips from the tongue
Of those who will not be undone
As challenge set by the feigned morality
Of those who find weariness in the banality

Of those with too sharp a tongue
Regardless of how pretty or young
Thoughts rolling around her head
Of things that evil men have said

It's how these charges tend to grow
More of a slip of a tongue than a know
For the thieving and the scheming
Will not be deprived of their foul dreaming

No matter the nightmares they cause
And how it make honest men into outlaws
Deception wears its clever smile
As deceivers put the less guilty on trial

More's the pity of that shame
Innocent women bearing the blame
As they speak truth against the power
As the wicked sit in judgment and glower

Until then left to devices of their own
Ill mannered men are fated to die alone
Cursed to the flames of Hell's unholy fire
Such is the contempt these men inspire

On the Importance of True History

How did an intellectual fraud like Howard Zinn become the go to guy for American history in our public schools?   It’s sort of outrageous.   I remember when I was of a different mindset and more open to his nonsense.  But, even then I would have never guessed his pseudo historical takes with it’s lack of documentation and absence of verification accompanied with failing to place morality within that of the particular time examined would ever become the things taught our nation’s children as our history.

On the Importance of True History
by Michael Doyle

The human soul searches out to know
All those things of so long ago
We seek to know ourselves in inquiry
Learning the paths sown in our history

Examining others and our very selves
In direct observation and from books on shelves
History shows us where we have been
And from there, where we might be and when

The present is taken in fuzzy snapshots
Easily manipulated and quickly forgot
But the past is somewhat more fixed in time
And often easier to think on being less sublime

Personal observation is limited in perspective
While studying the whole of things is more often reflective
Things remembered form then analysis that becomes mote
And is better than things skewed through personal wont

The present is filled with habits of deconstruction
But, plainly spoken, this is often the path of destruction
As too many pieces are seen out of their context
All of our social and cognitive distortions serve to vex

In seeking out the every bit of true and lasting man
We must take the illustrations as drawn when we can
History is often insightful guidance to the wise
Given as lesson learned through another's eyes

Imps like Howard Zinn do not try to understand
But rather reinterpret the history of our land
Issues, we once grappled with must be understood
If our future is to be more right and traveled as we should

In the long study of the good and the bloody
Tales dragged into battlefields are often muddy
We must not shirk from seeing the bad nor the greatness
That has transpired even unto our days lived as fate is

Life is often a choice of what maybe right,
And what is possible as decisions taken come to light
Deals made in the shaky face of circumstance
Sometimes leave us in regrettable happenstance

Events as they happen are hard to judge
Until the line on judgment's meter will no longer budge
Where records are rich we are provided much detail
Some are less known with deep secrets harder to reveal

But where events have com into their ebb and flow
Even God cannot change the outcome regardless of woe
Whether decisions once made were good or perhaps bad
These are the decisions and the outcomes once had

Hard in estimation, difficult in their fixity
It's important to know it best despite the complexity
Sometimes in paying the stiffest price against power
Mankind gives its all for moments that are our finest hours

Wars fought cause hands to eternally wring
Over the loss of treasure and blood these bring
But there are worse things like failing to fight at all
Without true history, this is difficult to recall

How does mankind in all of our fragility
Wrangle with the truths enmeshed in our reality
But than to face the question of our mortal needs
And to seek answers from others and in what we read

The past must be looked at with great sympathy
As we look at our own imperfect world with empathy
All the moments of certainty and those of hesitations
We still face many of the very same unanswered questions

America sought to build a new world out of old
Settling as we would on civilization to unfold
Into the hope for that shining something better
With freedom, consent of the governed in liberty together

For the first hundreds of years or so of difficult strife
We plowed together, earned and grew in our American life
Until we found ourselves in need of a little revolution
This was worked out to be and set out as a better solution

Life on this frontier was a meeting of Bible and gun
And the law books from which our republic was begun
Force versus law depends on more force to have law
A tale of civilization's struggle we are best to recall

Dependent on willingness to give our sacrifice
In this land of hope, nothing less will seemingly suffice
All ages have thought themselves the best
To understand this world, only time yields this true test

The twins of celebration and criticism are not enemy
Though at times their approach seems to bring enmity
Love is the foundation of the wisest criticism
And through it we might find our way to our best optimism

Heirlooms In the Shadows

Haunted graveyards anyone?

Home, Sweet, Haunt - The Haunted Woods -Evil Rises From the Grave

Heirlooms In the Shadows
by Michael Doyle

Where there is wanton violence
There is always fear in that place
You can feel it in the silence
That permeates darkness in that space

Standing there with the coffin flung wide
Death was met there amidst his stride
Sometimes the truth is not wanted to be heard
But truth must be known of all things incurred

Though it might seem almost inconceivable
Perhaps this is the truth most believable
The shutters open to a blustery, windy night
All for the sake of promises made under moonlight

Family secrets that should never be told
Hide the truths of horrors as these unfold
Heirloom jewelry buried and taken into grave
As though these held some power to save

Hanging firm as evil in the crypt air
The price to be paid is often unfair
The living are not welcome to go there
In this graveyard filled with bleak fear

It's surprising how many pretend to be
These things they cannot and will never be
If it were a crime, we'd all be locked away
Or, at least, so it seems, evil persons say

You cannot pay respect when you haven't any
And the regrets to be had will be many
Where the ignorant insist on taking chances
The mausoleum of the dead is where the Devil dances

Love Suffers Long

Based in part on 1 Corinthians 13:4-5:

House of Prayer - Love In His Name

Love Suffers Long
by Michael Doyle

The greatest thing is the truest love
Not superficial love but the real love
That love which God gives to us all
The kind of love needed to recall

The kind of love delivered freely
In a home church shared by we
The people who live under the cross
Given to victory over sin's loss

We who were once given to sin
Now converted to God's again
Saved from that ill fated story
Given over to God's greater glory

As an apostle to Christ as disciple
Teaching the Word from the Bible
No longer given to ways of contesting
Passed with faith through the testing

Knowing that God's love will never fail
His true victory ever to truly prevail
The love had is taken to Heaven
And remembered when we break leaven

Remembering His sacrifice for us all
With blood of Christ we duly recall
All the law fulfilled in Jesus' life given
Through His death we are forgiven
