Thought For the Day: My Country, Right Or Wrong; If Right, To Be Kept Right; and If Wrong, To Be Set Right

“My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right.” –   Carl Schurz

In popular culture we only hear that part, “(M)y country, right or wrong”.  This is incorrect.  If our country is against God’s laws and morality, our country needs to set right.  To assume otherwise would be akin to saying ‘our mother, drunk or sober’.  We might love her still and of course we do.  But, we must act to set her right, shouldn’t we?

Oh, I know some would say, there I go should’ing on everyone.  But, there are some absolutes aren’t there?  At least, when we are speaking in terms of ideals there are.  Acceptance of the imperfections of reality is just the way things are but not necessarily what to be accepted.

Arguably, this includes where we as a nation have stepped away from our founding principles.  Which is not to say these principles themselves were absolutely perfect.  Some compromises made were simply wrong in that they accepted ungodly concepts such as any man or woman not be treated as equal before the eyes and love of God and treated as full citizens of our great republic.

This is where the second part of this quote is appropriate to bear in mind.   After decades of research, I have not found even a single founding father who believed slavery for example to be right.  As to women and Indians or (Native Americans), we know that both served in our Revolution to free our nation and that each have had their advocates to be equal among their fellow Americans.  It has been a tortuous road of growth and experience that has led us to do the right needed to be done.

Still, I say, my county right or wrong and will be patriotic until the end…. however mindful of the fact that where there is wrong, it must indeed be righted.

Lessons Learned As To Revenge

Living well is the best revenge taken.  Forgiveness over anger.  Love instead of indifference, pain or extreme dislike.

Where Peaceful Waters Flow - Mid Day Blue Heron

Lessons Learned As To Revenge
by Michael Romani

Revenge is our undoing
A debt that keeps accruing
When really best left alone
Least it becomes a weight kept growing

We humans are a silly lot
Lessons learned and quickly forgot
Believing only we know the right
Getting lost along the day to night

Splitting off in our own direction
Seldom accepting of good connection
At best, we pause to take in a view
Before restarting our journey without a clue

We are warned to dig two graves
As this journey seldom saves
That which we hope and wish for
And its price exceeds its value all the more

It is wiser to be unlike the one
Who has caused our hearts to be undone
Succeeding in building a better legacy
And being unlike those who have causes us injury

Instead we should seek to improve ourselves
Through laughter, love and books from the shelf
For an eye for an eye leaves everybody blind
It's far better instead to choose to be kind

Forgive life's slights and all it's injury
Becoming stronger into our better energy
Embracing instead peace and love's sweet journey
In this, gain God's forgiveness and not enmity

What Does It Look Like?

Some try to push Christians out of the public square.  That won’t be done.

Otter Lake - Always Have Your Back, Babe

What Does It Look Like?
by Michael Romani

What does it look in this crumbled society
To find that Christians have imputed notoriety
Confronted by a kingdom fill with much error
A bringer of much carnage and living terror

Do what you will in the midst of stammering
I am fully disclosing the truth of the hammering
Like Daniel walked into the oven's fire
I choose to live by what goodness and God inspire

The God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob ascends
Reigning over a world from ends to ends
Giving the best in everything that we can be
Living by the guidance of truth Divinity

We refuse steadfastly to cringe and bow down
Just as in the past we know who has the true crown
Focused on the good that can be done in the Empire
Living and doing the will of the living God who inspires

Drawing the line in it's last point of re-education
We stand fast in the deepest roots of our dedication
Resolved into the focus that we'll not be defiled
And to our truest principles we are reconciled

The world around us wants to tell us not to quietly pray
Telling us what to think and do and even what to say
I for one will do exactly as my faith teaches and shows me
Always true, even if separated from the norm of society

I have not given up on walking society back from the brink
In total and utter dependence on my Lord for what I think
I put this into the every bit of how I act and try to talk
Though sometimes imperfect I will stay on this walk

Called out and separated as the Church of God's family
Proving our best service in deeds not in printed homily
We who belong to God are born to live out our best praise
And by our example to society, hopeful the tides will raise

Leaped To Conclusions

February 29, 2020.  This day shall live in my personal history as a day like no other.

Glenshalane Woods - A Crab and His Bubbles.. (Who Knew?)

Leaped To Conclusions
by Michael Romani

Today is a day unlike any other day
So many changes have blown my way
Today is the last day I'll use this name
Here and beyond it's originating game

Today as they say is the first
That is coming with new found thirst
Keeping after all the good things going on
Passing the point where it's nearly gone

Life that is despite its rippled pond
What I am giving up being kept from the beyond
No longer willing to be part of the slave mind
It's time that sort of thing is left behind

Given a certification offering its recognition
From persons certain, I've made a risky decision
I now make my way injured as I am into my own lane
No longer caring who defines this as being vain

Career ended but friends and family still kept in heart
I have chosen today to keep those things of a new start
And those things of old that truly most matter
Bonds of love and friendship I will never shatter

From this point on, I will be by my own name known
Tearing down the walls of all this blog shown
Holding only to the standards of myself, family and friends
Having only to tie up a few more loose ends

I am thankful for those who keep faith and encourage me
I turn my back on those who don't and discourage me
There's no time like this time to make this the right time
Determined to make or break my dreams however sublime

Those that remain that know that I love them know
That taking this leap of faith on leap day is my flow
Thankful to God and friends for all the best given
Now is the time to get behind my wheel of miles yet to be driven

Connections Made

In looking out toward what others do and say, sometimes I have moments of introspection.  Lately, this has centered and focused on the connections made between a lady I spend hours talking with and feeling so deep.  Not that past feelings have been shallow.  But, sometimes, things click a notch deeper and it clarifies all that has come before and where life is leading.  It’s interesting that a lot of this is coming up and being thought about by me because of a show she asked me to watch with her.  Seems like God is funny that way, always making little seemingly disconnected things add together into things needed to be seen and known.  And.. this I know:

Bellisieria - Alewife Home -Our Gungfu Is Mighty

Connections Made
by Michael Romani

Alone in my reflection
Seeking true connection
Caught in the circumstance
Of needing true acceptance

I hope to find this in you
I need to have this from you
Talk to me, I feel this
Opening from our very first kiss

I need to know you
Nothing left to hide from you
Lost up in the easiness
Teared up in beautiful queasiness

The butterflies all flutter
I'm needing no other
Then the girl who wears my ring
For all that you bring

In the song we've sang
You are the yin to my yang
Not just some bit of flirtation
You are my final destination

Looking for reciprocation
Given in blessed anticipation
Let's walk this life together
I can't thing of anything better

Every time you call my name
I know it's true, you feel the same
And I want to spend my life
With you by my side as my wife

First Principles: It Is Better That Ten Guilty Persons Escape Than That One Innocent Suffer

“For the law holds, that it is better that ten guilty persons escape, than that one innocent suffer.” – Sir William Blackstone (Commentaries on the Laws of England, 9th ed., book 4, chapter 27, p. 358 (1783)

It is seldom understood in contemporary society that the colonists who first became we Americans were originally petitioning for redress of their rights as Englishmen.   When England refused to provide the rights given under English law is the time that rebellion became not only necessary but just.  Equity demands fair and rational treatment.
