First Principles: A Republic Is Defined As A Government of Laws, and Not of Men

“They define a republic to be a government of laws, and not of men.” – John Adams (1775)

Not a democracy, a republic.   How have so many lost their way on this one, both sides of the majoritarian aisle.

Thought For the Day: No One In This World Can Love A Girl More Than Her Father

“No one in this world can love a girl more than her father.” – Michael Ratnadeepak

A message to both of my little girls as I prepare to spend time alone with them for the first time in too long of a time.  I know that I will probably be long dead before you read these words on this blog.  But, please know that both of you are loved to the depths of my soul.  I know that what has happened is not fair or right and has not been easy on you.  Today we make a step toward making things fairer and more right.  I know you don’t follow this blog any more.  But, I hope some day you will again.  I love you.  And I will do my best to get us to right.

Update:

I spent part of my Saturday with two of the most beautiful, loving little young ladies.  Proud of them and proud of how they are becoming is not quite strong enough to cover my feelings. It is so amazing to me how awesome it is to discover that the thoughts and feelings they shared with me showed a commonality with me that I could not dare to have hoped for given the forced distance that has been manipulated into being.  Genetics is utterly astonishing isn’t it?  Despite my ex’s best or is it worse efforts, these are my little ladies to their cores.

First Principles: Mankind Must Be Ready To Sacrifice To Protect the Rights of Society

“Men must be ready, they must pride themselves and be happy to sacrifice their private pleasures, passions and interests, nay, their private friendships and dearest connections, when they stand in competition with the rights of society.” – John Adams (1776)

Happiest of Valentine’s Day 2020!

Now I see my vision of love

Like an angel from above

Noticed in all her clarity

Given love in her sincerity

I know just how blessed it feels

To know her love is true and real

I hope that all of those who read

Find all the love that they need

And that this Valentine’s brings a smile

That lingers and stays at least awhile

If our God sees fit, I hope that it’s forever

And the love that binds, leaves us never

Happy Valentine’s Day to one and all from Aloha Promises Forever!!

First Principles: Endeavor Not Only To Be Learned But Virtuous

“A good moral character is the first essential in a man, and that the habits contracted at your age are generally indelible, and your conduct here may stamp your character through life. It is therefore highly important that you should endeavor not only to be learned but virtuous.” – George Washington (1790)

Bestest Friend

I was watching a bit heralding the advent of computers and all that has happened in so short a time.   It’s true and it’s fascinating.  But how long do you think it took me to think of the flipside?  I remember all those comic books I once read.  And a flashing mental neon sign keeps warning me, beware!  Danger, danger….

Bestest Friend
by Michael Romani

In assembled bits of zero and one
The demise of mankind has begun
Despite our great habit of resilience
We will be no match for artificial intelligence

It takes twenty four minutes for us to learn
The apps that machines immediately discern
This is the outcome for our finest minds
Tell me which of us doesn't fear being left behind?

The obviousness of a simple click and drag
Didn't take into account the inevitable virtual lag
That makes the simple hard in its execution
Despite the virtual gamer's determination

Fast forward into the web's architectural design
Splitting false domains into yours and into mine
The great and the awful are all in our presentation
As we chase around and round inside our imaginations

Everything is our that we might decide to choose
It's as if our wills are weak and cannot refuse
Dabbling in a web that is beyond vast temptation
Drawn ever further seemingly without real intention

I've a feeling computers are laughing at our mess
As we chase our circles we will never confess
More and more AI monitors our self quantification
Pushing for more and further of our self-gratification

While computers take over little by little, more and more
Making greater decision until these are trusted more
Does anyone ask where all of this might end?
I know, let's ask Google, it's our bestest friend!!

Digital In Our Memories

As some may know, I am exploring the nuances of virtual reality and integration of this into life in general.

Digital In Our Memories
by Michael Romani

Digital in our memories
Listless in our legacy
We have no choice but to exist
As our ghosts live on and persist

Somewhere in the somehow
That lingers beyond the now
Outcomes given in choices
Nothing can destroy our voices

Once brought into the moment
In the fullness of joy and torment
We collapse into our reality
Loving Schrodinger's creativity

It's all in our understanding
Sometimes dense and too demanding
We are deductive in equation
Secrets shared in this creation

Lost inside the corridors of our mind
We search deep until the moment we find
Tears felt inside our silent rage
Cats of fantasy captive in our cage

Establishment of connection let's us in
Pixellated madness felt like total Zen
Impatient with the time that passes
Eyes seek a phoenix rising from our ashes

Biometrics block us from our all
In distant memories we no longer recall
We pray our Lord to see us through
As we see those things we know aren't true

Thought For the Day: People Should Be As Concerned With Clearing the Innocent As Punishing the Guilty

“I hear much of people’s calling out to punish the guilty, but very few are concerned to clear the innocent.” – Daniel Defoe (1660-1731)

First Principles: Laws Are Made For Men of Ordinary Understanding and Should Be Construed By Ordinary Rules of Common Sense

“Laws are made for men of ordinary understanding and should, therefore, be construed by the ordinary rules of common sense. Their meaning is not to be sought for in metaphysical subtleties which may make anything mean everything or nothing at pleasure.” – Thomas Jefferson (1823)
