Scorecard

Ever wonder how your life is tallying up?

Christmas Fair - Winter River Chapel

Scorecard
by Michael Romani

Sometimes like an idiot savant
I do my best to be your servant
Lord, to put things a little oddly
I recognize that on earth, I am your body

In me, I wish your spirit to dwell
Like a stumbled angel who never completely fell
It seems at times, I vacillate
While worshipping you and all you create

There in all of my false vanity
I try to be an ambassador to humanity
Hoping that my selfishness might yield
And you may use my hands to build

Pillars shaped to support your kingdom
Reined in from too much freedom
Raise me up with your divinity
That I might walk head upright with some dignity

Walking your path, I am your feet
Often stumbled but never crippled to defeat
I am so often wrong and you are Holy
It's to my blessed surprise that you even know me

And so long as my example might talk
I ask that you allow me to walk your walk
That in my example of failure and heartbreak
Others perhaps will learn from my mistakes

May your compassion shine through my eyes
As I see and live in the darkness you despise
Offering the best of my non-judgmental love
If only, Lord, I was as pure as Heaven above

Though my life has proven at times very hard
I pray that the tally of my life's scorecard
Will show less bad things than those good
Then I will have served you, Lord, as I should

First Principles: We Must Keep United To Attain Our Objectives Or Become An Easy Conquest

“If we move in mass, be it ever so circuitously, we shall attain our object; but if we break into squads, everyone pursuing the path he thinks most direct, we become an easy conquest to those who can now barely hold us in check.”  – Thomas Jefferson (1811)

Hole Inside My Gospel

I know that I’m not the only one who is a believer.  Nor am I the only one amazed at the things he does despite believing, right?  Still….

Grey Magic -Tunneled Train

Hole Inside My Gospel
by Michael Romani

Like so many among the fallen
I fail to heed my Father's calling
Hiding secrets behind my wall of pride
As if not knowing I cannot hide

The hole inside my gospel
Trying so hard to write my own tale
As though I might compel
My will over the power of His will

In a razzle dazzle of bluff
Trying to hide away things that cannot be stuffed
Doing my best to be a better man
And finding its more than I often can

Wondering why its so very hard to love
Given the example shown above
Wishing I would and then I don't
Blowing right past what I won't

Won't ever find the way to right
Struggling hard in my blackest night
All of my passion is stoked and fired
Living my bliss soul inspired

There is nothing worse than being caught in fear
All of my bravery simply disappears
A solid wall folded into its crumble
Pardon me as I tearfully stumble

Praying that my muse will tell me what it's about
As my confidence fades into doubt
I too often keep out of the world's troubles
By staying safely inside my own particular bubble

Is it better that you don't know
How much of me remains hidden within shadow
Every day, I pray to be the best that I can
And hope to find my way into being that man

First Principles: No People Will Tamely Surrender Their Liberties Or Be Easily Subdued When Knowledge Is Diffused and Virtue Is Preserved

“No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffused and virtue is preserved. On the contrary, when people are universally ignorant, and debauched in their manners, they will sink under their own weight without the aid of foreign invaders.” – Samuel Adams (1775)

Afrofuturistic

Design and empathy feed off each other in telling many tales.  One of these is the telling of Black America’s history and a guiding light into the future.

Music Island At Virtlantis - Island Hot Rod

Afrofuturistic
by Michael Romani

Life can be a bit frantic
For the jaded fanatic
And the perfectionist
Both often too kinetic

In hip hop fashion
Black and red
Filled with passion
It plays in the head

Like the politics of color
Accidental in presence
But it makes you give a holler
At its understated significance

Afrofuturistic
A bit derogatory in tone
Exploitive and mechanistic
Lost in its endless zone

An escape to the library
Provides its entry point
Toward breathing liberty
In its freedom that anoints

Line by line
The story self refines
There in the intricate design
As a story becomes yours and mine

Harlem moves and is alive
In its renaissance of boogie and jive
Sometimes a hoodlum's neighborhood
But its a journey taken as it should

Humbled by the hope of education
Given toward an honored dedication
In humanity, we can't help but reveal
All the beauty of truth that design instills

Appearance my not be everything
But it is very much a bit of something
In the telling of each tale
It's whispered and true; God is in the details
