Father’s Day With My Daughters 2019

Two hours isn’t nearly long enough, but, at least it was some time.

Father's Day With My Daughters (2019)
by Michael Romani

Some dads find it fine to have bragging rights
In that they've done in spending sleepless nights
But, honestly, I can say I know that simple as can be
Reading to them both while in the womb built empathy

So much so that my eldest angel appeared on ultra sound
That first time she sat up and followed my voice she found
Filtering at the entrance of the room as I was walking in
And she turned to me extending her finger again and again

And so it's been for both of my little ladies that I love
Two precious and cherished angels coming as gifts from above
Each of them opening my eyes to the world as I had not seen
Both of them reaching inside me to make me a better human being

Today, we went to the State Museum to look at fashionable hues
How each color struck different eras worth a thousand views
I watched as they learned to combine color and fabric's design
Into their own creations that struck me at times as sublime

Each gave me huge hugs that somehow made my troubles fade away
Each moment a dream cherished as we talked and walked today
A game of questions over lunch intrigued me as I grew to know
That they are getting older and wiser as each life surely goes

They didn't like my answer that with them is where I wanted to be
But to them time flows more slowly than it is with time for me
If I could change one thing in my life it would be to be together
Living more as their daddy and knowing more closely and better

To Know Us By Our Love

Based in part on 1 John 3:11-18:

Missing Melody Revisited -I Can't Find My Way Home

To Know Us By Our Love
by Michael Romani

Our defining character needs to be love
To share that blessing we get from above
In every moment that we speak our talk
Love is best present in the walk we walk

To be Christians we must act in compassion
And make that example our best attraction
Giving to others what we have been given
Sharing in the truth that we can be forgiven

To love the Lord with all that we are and got
Is the measure of being not to be forgot
Loving our neighbors as ourselves as ourselves
Giving it out and not kept saved on our shelves

Both loves are actually the same in His eyes
If you know your Bible this is no real surprise
The genuine thing offer to God and all others
As we worship God with our sisters and brothers

It should be kept in mind that our love expressed
Is a reflection of our love for God truly confessed
There is no condition that sets this aside
And when we fail to do this it's usually our pride

Love one another is not just a sort of suggestion
And it's the ideal we embrace without hesitation
This is the message that Jesus drove in and home
That we walk this life together and not alone

Put simple, this is a nonnegotiable command
Our need for compassion, we must understand
And with our eyes wide open we are called to act
This my brothers and sisters is just a fact

The time to act is when we have that opportunity
Remembering that we are all part of God's big family
When we find that calling and we have that ability
We show our love for God by acting in rightful capacity

Loving not by empty words by actions and deeds
Finding and filling as best we can evident needs
We, as Christians, are blessed to become a blessing
And in so doing, we have removed all the guessing

In the loving of one another, there is sacrifice
Doing those things that we must to suffice
The bottom line is that love is as love does
For no other reason than we are told because

This the thing that God requires of His family
And to do less is the epitome of a tragedy
Doing all things with love as needed and freely
Being willing to sacrifice as God did with majesty

First Principles: Christianity Must Be the Basis of Government Intended To Secure the Rights and Privileges of A Free People

“In my view, the Christian religion is the most important and one of the first things in which all children, under a free government ought to be instructed. … No truth is more evident to my mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people.” – Noah Webster

Thought For the Day: Being Dad Is the Best Title I’ve Ever Had

“Of all the titles I’ve been privileged to have, ‘Dad’ has always been the best.” – Ken Norton

I think this is very true with the exception of being ‘Daddy’.  I love both my little girls more than life itself.   Making each time that I can be with them even if only over the phone, I try to let them know that to the depths of their souls.

Transcendent Healing

Isn’t it charming that so much of reaching inner connection is characterized as mindfulness when truly the path to reach the soul is to quiet that mind and breath in the soul.  Don’t ask me yet to explain quite what I mean here.. I’m new at this journey and already found my old tires in need of a retread…. sighs quietly and shuts up…..

Footprints In our Hearts, Build A Life

Transcendent Healing
by Michael Romani

Sympathetic nervous system sweeps
Into the zone where equilibrium keeps
Finding the balance away from stress
Taking ourselves to peace away from the mess

The mess of the things that bring us disease
And toward the things that bring us peace
Too worried and hurried to take things slow
A symptom of our lives always on the go

There is healing needed on multiple levels
But each of these issues is its own devil
Our minds yapping nearly all of the time
Reeling and revealing as our own personal crime

Against ourselves and simply requires remediation
Like learning to quiet oneself through meditation
Shutting down the urgent need for fight or flight
Relieving the stress and bringing us to the light

Like the daily shower removes the grime of yesterday
Quieting our minds can shunt the toxicity away
We are bombarded with sensationalism morning to night
With the necessity of taking it in and getting it right

Perhaps it's better instead to find peace of mind
Leaving this stress and news of the world behind
Purifying our deepest shadows captured in reflection
And in so doing, we find our transcendent connection

Taking ourselves to a place absent of thought
While in this awareness we'll find our answer sought
Moving beyond all this world's chaos out of control
Finding our way inside to connect with our souls

First Principles: It Is the Duty of All Nations To Acknowledge God, Obey His Will, Be Grateful and Humbly Ask His Protection and Favor

“(I)t is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor …” – George Washington, in establishing a day of Thanksgiving for the United States

What George Washington fully proclaimed should be reminded by all citizens of the United States in our celebration of Thanksgiving!  He said:

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor ….

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the twenty-sixth day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these United States …. that we then may all unite unto him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed….

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord, to promote the knowledge and practice of the true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best

He sure doesn’t read like the Deist some try to state he is does he? 😉

Heartland United

Tales of the American Heartland…

Velvet Design -As American As Mom & Apple Pie

Heartland United
by Michael Romani

We have one heartland united
In a nation too divided
Filled with hop and our heartbreak
The nation's heart awakes

From Nebraska to the Central Valley
There is a flavor of sentimentality
Bucking horse rebel at precision
Not caring a whit for sophists derision

It resonates as genuine not phony
When we sing our songs of Ole Glory
All these dreams chased around and round
Drifting as we do from town to town

Chasing down that open road
An American mythology retold
With a lullaby of simplicity
It's mostly a matter of integrity

A man's bond sealed with a handshake
A whispered sorry to our last mistake
Promises made and promises kept
Smiles smiled and tears wept

There's a plaintive tone to the tune
Where a lilting melody plays under the moon
High to the top of an American dream
Where gearheads and hitchhikers careen

A Feeling of freedom gives birth to celebration
As fine patriots wave flags across the nation
Somewhere north of Nashville, 4th of July is coming
And just across the way, another guitarist is strumming

Abstractiva

Abstract art has it’s meanings if you look deep enough.

One Billion Rising - Pyrotechnics

Abstractiva
by Michael Romani

Chaotic, feathery strokes embrace
The tempest that is grief
Jagged streaks of rage turn to face
The locked out ability to find relief

Seeping outward in artificial light
A canvas filled with circular emotion
On a long day's journey into night
There in the eye is the captured devotion

Abstract swoops and shards of color
In its own sense of distant sway
Imposes harmony over the dollar
Balancing the organic life of days

All the crayon studies of elegance
Whisper hints of their truth
In tales of greater relevance
We've believed in the days of our youth

Frenzied scribbles spike the study
Of the kaleidoscope of tattered wings
Danced into morning feeling muddy
As the yellow jackets restrain their sting

First Principles: Nothing Is of More Importance For Our Nation’s Well-Being Than To Form and Train Up Youth In Wisdom and Virtue

“… (N)othing is of more importance for the public weal, than to form and train up youth in wisdom and virtue…. I think also, general virtue is more probably to be expected and obtained from the education of youth, than from the exhortation of adult persons; bad habits and vices of the mind being, like diseases of the body, more easily prevented than cured.” – Benjamin Franklin
