First Principles: Honor, Justice and Humanity Makes It Our Duty To Pass Liberty On To Our Children’s Children

“Honor, justice, and humanity, call upon us to hold, and to transmit to our posterity, that liberty which we received from our ancestors. It is not our duty to leave wealth to our children, but it is our duty to leave liberty to them.” – John Dickinson

Thought For the Day: Be The First To Apologize, Forgive and Forget and Be the Best

“The first to apologize is the bravest.

The first to forgive is the strongest.

And the first to forget is the happiest…

Truth of Journey

Life is often a little of little matters that make up the journey along the way:

Xibalba Mayan Underworld Dia de Muertos - The Journey Continues

Truth of Journey
by Michael Romani

Sing me a song from the days of olden
When life was laughter and so golden
Candlelight burns as the tale is told
When heroes were certain and bold

Shadowed passages show the way
To places that embrace and heroes stay
Even when wounded deep and worse in soul
A rebel's heart is not one for control

In the thick of battle is where he belongs
Where he remains the seeker and righter of wrongs
You cannot beat the necessity out of this man
His beats true even when his body no longer can

This then is the very fight we are given
Expected to equal and best the plight we live in
This is what life justly demands and does not ask
That each of us be equal to our given tasks

All of life indignities borne steadfast and true
Or at least with as much truth as surely will do
To carry us onward through life's perilous journey
Until we, at last, arrive at our final bit of destiny

Inward Crash

The injuries from the military that are visible only scratch the surface of the totality.

Game of Thrones - Highgarden - To Write You A Love Song

Inward Crash
by Michael Romani

There's a loneliness in his memory
Sitting and looking out to the sea
Images explode, implode and won't go away
Crashing down reflections lived every day

Eyes close as he tries to keep strong
Sitting there closed to the world; lingering long
Phantoms arise terrifying in their beauty
As overpowering as his call once to duty

Chopper blades call back their thunder
Mesmerizing as these pull him under
Transfixed as though not fully present
Tale told with a sigh he now resents

Disturbed he feels his soul cry out
To those hard decisions that now leave only doubt
A voyage sailed too close to Hades' shore
Has him withdraw into that more

That overwhelms him with its pain
Flickers of lucidity; whimpers of the insane
He had been a good soldier, one of the best
But that one night claimed him ; hell never rests

Bullets have taken their untimely toll
Now he finds life lost feeling and doesn't roll
Sniper scoped and wickedly took his friend
A bad decision that will never, ever end

Fingers point deepest when their you're own
And now the theme of war intrudes until gone
Somehow lingering on and on and eternally on
Tagged forever with this blame that is beyond

Staring into the abyss of false clearing
They call him brave and found him fearing
A walk away from times ceaseless frame
Knowing that he'll always be to blame

The worse blade is the one self inflicted
Waking up dead, broken and self conflicted
Giving into the darkness of memory's voices
Self-loathing and caught in too many wrong choices

To Find Peace

Based in part on Book of Philippians 4:4-7 :

House of Prayer - Tree of Life Rejoiced

To Find Peace
by Michael Romani

This world is filled with turmoil
Where tempers find their boil
And peace is so hard to find
How did do we leave this behind
Finding peace in our ways
Guarding our hearts in these days

God's peace serves to always protect
From all these things we do detect
No worries will overcome and prevail
For in God's peace we know all is well
This peace we live must be cultivate
When we follow this we come to emulate

Steps followed provide us the instruction
Always the truth in our education
Rejoicing in our sacred Lord always
Keeping our faith in all of our days
And all else will be added to us all
This comfort always there to recall

Letting our gentleness always be known
In all that we do and all we have shown
No need to reproof but instead to love
Sharing in the blessings from the above
Acting always with the ways of kindness
Shedding light in a world filled with blindness

Be anxious for nothing and set aside worry
Live life in each moment without hurry
All of life is in the palm of God's hand
Just love one another as God commands
All of our lives are in God's full control
Ours is but to trust and accept our roles

Whispering our needs to our Father
Praying to His ear and going no farther
There in that one on one communication
We have made our greatest supplication
All else needed is grateful in thanksgiving
And love one another always forgiving

Disintegration Apology

As God reminds me often, I am indeed a work in progress.  I do my best to be a good or at least decent man.  But, I am fairly flawed, right?

Gilath -Flight Of A Centered Moon

Disintegration Apology
by Michael Romani

In the midst of my disintegration
I reached out seeking my integration
Lost up in images, thoughts and sounds
Caught up in the mystery that I had found

Like a kid in a fantasy candy store
I found myself wanting more and more
Now I have too many tear drops running down
I thought I was king and awoke with a jester's crown

Not sure this time if I'll make it back
Lost in this void and feeling the lack
Reaching out to what you tried to show me
All you had given when you didn't even know me

You're the love song I've wanted to write
The only true thing I needed to get right
Not sure about the wrong that I did
But, my love for you, I never kept hid

I am so sorry for failing you
It's something I never wanted to do
With a look of hope, I try to make it up to you
If somehow I can, that's what I'll do

First Principles: Despite Humanity’s Imperfections, We Must Take Human Nature As We Find It

“We must take human nature as we find it, perfection falls not to the share of mortals.” – -George Washington, Aug. 15, 1786 (letter to John Jay)

Thought For the Day: Hearts, Away From Nature, Becomes Hard

“Wherever forests have not been mowed down, wherever the animal is recessed in their quiet protection, wherever the earth is not bereft of four-footed life – that to the white man is an ‘unbroken wilderness.’

But for us there was no wilderness, nature was not dangerous but hospitable, not forbidding but friendly. Our faith sought the harmony of man with his surroundings; the other sought the dominance of surroundings.

For us, the world was full of beauty; for the other, it was a place to be endured until he went to another world.

But we were wise. We knew that man’s heart, away from nature, becomes hard.”
― Chief Luther Standing Bear
