Straight Up, No Chaser

I am so far down right now that my chin up is just going to have to wait for some other day.

Paramount - My Hand Bond Promises Remembered

Straight Up, No Chaser
by Michael Romani

Straight up, no chaser
I know I can't replace her
I doubt I ever really can
God, I wish I was a better man

Fell in love in the simplest way
I'll never forget that beautiful day
My God, I wish I could have her back
But, I'm not good enough, with what I lack

The sorrow inside, I can't easily hide
But, when she loved me, it was quite a ride
I loved her for what she saw in me
I was her beast; she was my beauty

Feeling my heart break right in two
Because I'll never belong where love was true
Feeling so very lost, dazed and confused
By the loss of a love that never refused

And I know that I'm the only one to blame
I own that knowledge in all of my shame
Blown smoke turned to flame's hot fire
Simple it seemed, I've never dreamed higher

At the Corners of My Soul

Ever miss someone even if the way they broke up with you leaves full of doubt, self loathing and more questions than answers?

Home, Sweet, Home -Twisting the Bluez Away

At the Corners of My Soul
by Michael Romani

Picking at the corners of my soul
Searching for answers, reeling out of control
You were the changes I wanted to make
And your leaving is more than I can take

Falling from the shadows to the deep
Think I know why the willows weep
Perhaps the cruelest words ever spoken
Were you telling me I am just too broken

If I was a drinking man, I'd get drunk
But instead I'm stuck feeling this sunk
You made me feel special just to let me go
And the feeling I know now, I don't want to know

I wanted to sing the song you'd want to feel
Would have done most anything to keep this real
I keep reliving the dreams that we shared
It's hard to believe that you never really cared

There really is a lot, too much, wrong with me
But, I believe you maybe could have saved me
If you hadn't given up to that eventually
Lord, I wish I was too blind to see

Seemed So Easy

Isn’t it funny how differently two people can see the same events?

Home, Sweet, Home - Moon's Yoga Studio - Two Hearts United As One Love

Seemed So Easy
by Michael Romani

It seemed so easy
Putting band aids on the pain
Ignoring the tear drops
Though they fell like rain

It was there
In all of your imperfections
Washed away with the beer
In all the subtle contradictions

These made you amazing
So you seemed to me
I felt my heart racing
Deep inside of me

All of your uniqueness
Was so charming to me
I would too often speak this
Our differences were disarming to me

In all of my jokes you were annoyed
Little observances to fill my void
While you shone like my star
I'd just strum on my guitar

Strumming happily along
Note for note, song after song
How was I to know, it felt so strong,
That I had got it all so very wrong

I always wanted to take
Just one more look at you
So very real and never fake
I just wanted to take one more look at you

I kept on falling
Over and over again
I'd hear your voice calling
And I was falling in love with my best friend

Dragged Down

Little something that fell together while I was playing guitar tonight…

The A&J Nightclub - Tom Petty Tribute Band - Guitar

Dragged Down
by Michael Romani

Feeling less than fulsome
Dragged down something awesome
Drinking to oblivion stage side
Letting my rage riff on a free ride

At the turn of someone's page
Dropped dime like a wise sage
Thought I knew more than I did
But you kept your secrets hid

Backslid hiding on the rear pew
Stumbled in the back waiting on a clue
My past went quicker than I thought
Like battles lost though bravely fought

Getting it through the thick of my head
Too many messed up things that I said
Watching your back as you waved goodbye
It's just as well, you didn't see me cry

Winding it down something slow
Fairly certain, I 've nowhere left to go
Thought that we were golden maybe forever
Turns out that I was something less than clever

Cultivating Kindness II

One of lessons that is maybe too hard to learn for some is that in the face of harshness, sometimes the very best response is to show the same merciful kindness that God has shown us. It is a hard lesson cutting against our natural tendency to cut back on those who cut us.  Isn’t it?

Hopes Land - Siamese Cats

Cultivating Kindness II
by Michael Romani

As a child of God, it becomes our nature
While we grow in the spirit and mature
There exist no reason not to be kind
As our Lord gave sight to the blind

We too have a bit of that capacity
To shine out loving kindness capably
Instances of this are abundant in history
Each of these a living proof of His mercy

Make no mistake, being kind marks the strong
Especially, in the face of that which is wrong
Such righteous kindness isn't to be taken lightly
But to be our model and held onto tightly

God is forbearing in His abundant patience
Here in this world filled with sinful persistence
We, too, should bear the burden when others are unkind
In so doing, God will reward us with peace of mind

In the face of harshness, it can be the best defense
To react by listening in kindness and without pretense
Listening to the troubles flowing in another's mind
Offering a bit of peace that they might not otherwise find

While another might want to be our disparager
Returning this with kindness surely builds character
There is on thing on which may always, truly depend
That in nearly all situations, kindness builds the best of friends

Finding Restorative Balance

Lately, though taking quite a hit in my life, I have also found through the good times and lessons given and learned some hints at new approaches for my health and peace.  For that, I will always be eternally grateful.

Waterworld - An Observation of Pretty Bubbles Meditated

Finding Restorative Balance
by Michael Romani

Taking small changes to great effect
Learning to allow mind and body to reconnect
What I once spoke of slightly in perjorative
I am finding to bring balance and restorative

Never one to relax, I now need to de-stress
In so many ways, I am changing my address
More into one focused and actually being
Then always doing and always carelessly seeing

Applying bits of Tai Chi and yoga as corrective
Finding hidden treasures in my new perspective
I hope to fill my moments spent in happiness
And more joyfully find my way to bliss

Life is, as always, mysterious and beautiful
I wish only to reconnect with what's wonderful
Becoming more fluid and aware of life's causes
While taking the time for precious pauses

Slow and steady truly wins life's sacred race
It is just one of those changes we need to embrace
Giving ourselves time and space to reflectively react
Calming down from the overwhelm that distracts

Thoughtfulness brings clarity and deliberate intention
Things much needed in my internal go at reinvention
And though much of this differs from my conventions
It has become useful in improving my conditions
