Broken Sparrow Down

A few couplets were spotted dancing across the page….Dedicated to those who recognize that suicide is among the top reasons for death in the United States and work so diligently to lower these numbers and give up to the tired, weary and hopelessly forlorn.

LEA10: Metamofaces - A Girl In the Window

Broken Sparrow Down
by Michael Romani

All the broken sparrows
That never learned to fly

Lay shattered in the narrow
Never knowing quite why

All the good intentions
That never quite worked out

Defying all conventions
Truly tossed about

Dreamers dream tomorrow
Wanting to believe it somehow

In the happiness we borrow
Laying on the sidewalk right now

it was a longer way to the top
She said before falling down

I, myself, never wanted to stop
But, I was just her clown

The shattered glass around the body
Tells a story that I won't tell

Blue flowers now given to nobody
One last broken angel straight to Hell

Heartbreaks Forgiven

I wrote this poem just now.  Please forgive the typos.  It’s sort of a word flow thing….

Broken

Heartbreaks Forgiven
by Michael Romani

I watched you kill your child today
I held your hand and did not look away
You told me what a horrible person you were
I watched your eyes distinctly, not in a blur

As you asked would you go to Hell
I was younger then and said only time would tell
You cried for hours until you could cry no more
I offered you a hug and you asked what for

It was hard to see your heart breaking
Certain that everyone and God would be forsaking
Pledging me to the utmost secrecy
Like this was our hush-a-bye conspiracy

You were the Christian back then
I was just your heathen who loved you and when
You could no longer find reason to forgive yourself
I took to looing for some sort of answers from a shelf

It hurt you that you had made that mistake
In a lull between us, it was a risk to take
You were soul certain this was God's plan
To teach you for being with that man

I watched you kill your child today
I held your hand and did not look away
You told me what a horrible person you were
I watched your eyes distinctly, not in a blur

As you asked would you go to Hell
I was younger then and said only time would tell
You cried for hours until could cry no more
I offered you a hug and you asked what for

I held you close and told you it would be alright
And then held you some more until the morning light
Afraid to let go of you in all for your tears
That's how we spent our end of childhood years

Me there always watching looking out for you
No matter the things that you would do
And we laughed a little at the shoe on the other foot
You feeling like your halo was tarnished, covered in suet

And me still grateful for your sweet love
That like a sparkle, you had brought God from above
I had been your project and your wild man
Trying your patience as only I can

I watched you kill your child that day
I held your hand and didn't look away
You told me what a horrible person that you were
I saw your eyes distinctly, not in a blur

And you asked would you go to Hell
I was I was younger then and said only time would tell
You cried for hours until you could cry no more
I offered you a hug and you asked what for

Now the years have flown since we said goodbye
And I still think about the time you cried
I'm so grateful that you taught me to live
And what it means to truly forgive

I saw a photograph of your daughter the other day
She grew up beautiful reflecting you in every way
I thought of calling you but put the phone away
Better that you never have to remember that day

I've kept this secret for about Forty years
But, tonight I sit alone in my tears
Remembering how you taught me to pray
Only regretting that you did not stay

You had your well understood reasons
And me, I still pay throughout the seasons
Happy for you that your life turned out right
I kept you safe until the morning light

My only sorry was not knowing what to say
Though it might not have been different anyway
I smile as I look at your daughter's photograph
Wiping my tears while with joy I just laugh

I watched you kill your child that day
I held your hand and did not look away
You told me what a horrible person you were
I told you that you had told me of a cure

As you asked would you go to Hell
I was younger then but said that only God could tell
You cried for hours until you could cry no more
I offered you a hug and you asked what for

You see the thing is that despite your mistake
You were and are an angel that Satan could not shake
After you left me, it turns out you found your way
And me? I just smile and silently pray

Thought For the Day: Counseling Is Best Approached As Reminding the Person of Things Forgotten, Not Unable To Be Seen

“When you counsel someone, you should appear to be reminding him of something he had forgotten, not of the light he was unable to see.”  – Baltasar Gracian, writer and philosopher (8 Jan 1601-1658)

The Truth of Loving Consequences

Men are from Mars.  Women are from Venus.  So goes the title and theory of an now old book that attempted to explain our differences in communication.  But, wake up guys.  This is the 21st Century and the women have more than ever decided who is fully in charge.  It’s just a fact….(or perception or an attempt at comedy proving what my daughters say and that I should leave comedy safely in the hands of professionals….

Magic - n - Mischief - Tulips Begging To Be Tip Toed Through

The Truth of Loving Consequences
by Michael Romani

If you're a guy
You don't need to reply
But you know why
And so do I

We know how it goes
Rolled down windows
To buy a dozen roses
Loses its flavor once we propose

What was once a nicety
Has set the expectation
And what once worked for me
Is now seen as devious misdirection

Rolling by to get some flowers
After we've been working long hours
To support our favorite savor
Has lost its wind as a party favor

We're never clever enough to see the game
And somehow always catch the blame
Never really sure that the game is
Only knowing that something is amiss

And in this game, women always have the lead
Once that is that you're done that deed
In promising to love her until the end
Thinking in so doing you gain a wife and friend

Such a dirty misdeed of letting them know you cherish
An that this love of yours will never perish
Too much seem to be never quite good enough
And whatever happened to all the good stuff?

The every waking moment of adoration becomes all
Of the every little detail that you'd better recall
Because if you've missed even a single thing
Even the most innocent of guys will surely feel the zing

Ladies In White

It always astounds me when national leaders get something so entirely wrong.  In this example, we see a group of women in Congress with so little understanding of the history of our nation that while they intended to mock President Trump, they ended up making quite the mockery of themselves.

Go ahead and take a look if you don’t believe my words.  It was the Republicans who supported and were supported by the First Ladies of Woman’s Rights in America.  It was the Republicans who in 1920 (as best I recall off the cuff) who forced Woodrow Wilson to give the right to vote to women.  And so they wanted to trumpet out a statement.

Well I think the thing they might want to do now is either apologize or en masse surrender and join the party that fought for their rights… And by the way, before someone is tempted to think this inequity is a case of past versus present, please take a quick look at the wages paid women staffers on HRC’s campaign versus the wages paid by President Trump’s campaign.

For that matter take a look back in the last two decades as to how DNC and other Democrat women staffers have made per the dollar made by male staffers then when you’re done being shocked by the party whose mouth moves but never in time with the truth, take a good look at how much the Republicans have paid their female staffers.

One party is great at lying.  The other party is better at doing but not so great at publicizing.  I’ve never understood this.  Perhaps it’s time for a book attempting to set the record straight and tracing the Confederated States of America down through American history so that there is may less lies spread about and whole lot more truth?

Ladies In White
by Michael Romani

Oh, what a night
All the ladies
Dressed in white
To mock and be babies

Playing a game
Of the Freshman class
Laying the blame
While giving history a pass

Playing the political game
Of one-up-man-ship
Proving their grasp utterly lame
In a moment of ill thought brinksmanship

Because you see in their symbol
An alleged attempt to honor history
Of how women were recognized as equal
Looking at the photos, it should not be a mystery

And yet they've manage to completely miss
It was the Republicans who got them the vote
Not the Democrats who sit in silence and hiss
If only these ladies would simply devote

A moment to learn the real history
A little knowledge to resolve any mystery
Of which party always sides with liberty
And which is the one caught up in immaturity

The ladies all wore white
In remembrance of Seneca Falls
Quite the symbolism that night
As all history buffs and Republicans recall....

Thought For the Day: United States Will Never Be A Socialist Country

“Tonight we renew our resolve that America will never be a socialist country.” – Donald Trump

Bernie Sanders, the most vocal pick pocket, the US has ever allowed to remain in Congress, didn’t like that line in the State of the Union Address.

America is the home of the free and the brave, where liberty reigns and rule of law stands firm against the oppression of all.  That’s what I fought for.  That’s maybe what I’m dying for.  Bernie Sanders and other socialists may have all the good intentions in the world, but, good intention like that lead only to increasing encroachment of power, less freedom and strangely enough has a proven record of elevating a handful of ‘leaders’ to great prosperity and the workers and common people sharing more in misery than in the good things promised.  Isn’t that right, Bernie?  Explain again about how a devout socialist owns three homes, two of which are examples of the very opulence that you decry in your speeches?  I love a good story…

Purveyors of Doubt

This is not aimed at all counselors out there.  More sort of a response to a show I’ve started to watch.   To those who do excellent work in helping folks sort things out, a huge thank you!  For those who milk their clientele, well shame on you.  I doubt there are any of that caliber who read my work anyhow.  This poem is probably my fault for allowing my pen to do it’s own thinking as I processed the show.  So, please don’t take it too deeply or seriously.  I’m sure before the series is over, I’ll write one or two that I more positive.  In all honesty, I’m seeking out different shorts of shows and exploring ideas now.  Well enough apologizing.. here’s the poem:

Rising From the Mud - A Study In Blue

Purveyors of Doubt
by Michael Romani

One thing of note about therapy
Is the self assertion of their reality
The claim is made that they don't
The hope is staked that they won't

But really now, who's kidding who?
That is precisely what they do
And while one false word might cause a breakdown
Volumes of wrong words have caused societal shutdown

Tangential theories sprout like fractals on parade
At least where the fractals shine in their charade
Of thoughts too sophisticated to make sense
But, served p anyhow on a platter of pretense

Set on couches of self denial and confession
While muddle thoughts and feels are an obsession
The over-watcher toys with fragments of clarity
Bemused with complexes that are offered with hilarity

These experts offer advice on things for which there is none
Billing by hour until the finally decide that it is done
By done I mean, the contents of wallet and/or purse
Belonging to the haunted person certain they're living a curse

For long time it's seemed, most shrink need shrunk
At least, that's what I've nearly always thunk
It seems to me that good friends' ears do just as well
But that's just another secret counselors won't reveal

Preying on victims of rehashed circumstances
Encouraging dwelling on tragic happenstance
In which there is really just one way out
That's through the purveyors of whispered doubt

Thought For the Day: A Politician Best Serves His or Her Party By Serving the Country Well (Not By Partisanship)
