Thought For the Day: Rushing Into Action, You Fail

“Rushing into action, you fail.

Trying to grasp things, you lose them.

Forcing a project to completion, you ruin what was almost ripe.

Therefore the Master takes action by letting things take their course.

He remains as calm at the end as at the beginning.

He has nothing, thus has nothing to lose.

What he desires is non-desire; what he learns is to unlearn.

He simply reminds people of who they have always been.

He cares about nothing but the Tao.

Thus he can care for all things.” ― Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

The interested reader, may find line by line translation to this classic work online here:

The important thing to garner at this point is simply, approaching whatever the current ‘crisis’ may be at any given time in human history with panic only creates ensuring chaos.  This applies equally be a personal circumstance be it divorce, illness or just simply a bad hair day as well as to those events in the microcosm such this current coronavirus, oil price wars, or any weather or climate changes that we do not like happening but invariably do.

A wise person confronts these situations with the knowledge that calmness will help illuminate the best solutions available.  Where there is no solution, sometimes there is only going through whatever the circumstance to survive and to go the extra step of making the best of whatever may come our way.  Good or bad, this is our lives.  What we do with these is almost entirely up to us.

What can be done to prevent further epidemics?  Well, Scientific America suggests:

https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/want-to-prevent-another-coronavirus-epidemic/

What can we do about it now as individuals?  Mayo Clinic suggests this:

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/symptoms-causes/syc-20479963

As always, the readers of this blog continue to be in the thoughts and prayers of myself and those near and dear to me.   May God bless you all as you keep your heads, take reasonable preparations and remember this too shall pass!

First Principles: In the Struggle For Liberty, Be Willing To Know the Whole Truth; To know the Worst and To Provide For It

“It is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth – and listen to the song of that siren, till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the number of those, who having eyes, see not, and having ears hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it might cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and the provide for it.” – Patrick Henry,  speech at the Virginia Convention (March 23, 1775)

Letters In the Window

Typography choices are fascinatingly subtle and yet make all the difference.   I struggle with seeing this as art.  But, indeed it truly is.

Newfields Typography Shoot 03102020

Letters In the Window
by Michael Doyle

Letters blended with sophistication
Dependent on the reader's appreciation
Something completely subtle as we view
Akin to re-creating oxygen anew

Favorited fonts in choice of type
Can seem little more than hype
Primitive yet modern in their style
In a look for ease and maybe a smile

Upended systems crash shaped together
In hopes of finding something better
Signature moments found in the number four
Are found on watch faces and little more

So much is opened up just to be squared
As if a one trick pony fashionably ensnared
Empty canvases flow switched into gear
Often leaving typographers gripped in fear

For changing fonts must tread light
Neither too different or the same but just right
Time it seems has a lent its cultural dimension
As nuanced changes have brought imprecision

Manicules themselves attract the eye
Making the readers pause to wonder why
As a parliament of black letter shows the way
Into the words rapped in a musical day

This is the puzzle of words displayed
As adaptors of geometry are stylized and made
To dial back and then push forward in details
As they design the words of our lives' tales

A Return To the Sea

A pirate’s lot remains on my mind today.  To me, like many, there has always been a bit of allure to some of the legendary pirates.  Not the least of these is a chapter in a book I aim to release within the coming year possibly about rogues in American history – Jean Lafitte.  The Lafitte brothers and their men as some may recall are the true winners at the fabled Battle of New Orleans from which Andrew Jackson won part of his acclaim.

Russian Warm Angel - Ship Wrecked

A Return to the Sea
by Michael Doyle

There are no monuments, he said
As the storm unleashed over our heads
There is only the water for you and me
In our final return to this holy sea

A pirate's life leaves no legacy
Just tattered bits of mystery
Hanging about like footnotes in history
As fate washes our remains into the sea

Disregarded for all of our banditry
Few will ever know of our gallantry
A few us will have our tales told
The rest of us are unwanted, save for our gold

Our lives were earned from this sea
And in the end, it claims us as shall be
Swallowing each pirate entirely whole
Each of us knowing, we owe it our souls

It's as if we weren't here at all
As each of us answers the sirens' final call
Such then is the pirates' fatal lot
One which would be best never forgot

First Principles: The Real Man Smiles In Trouble, Smiles In Trouble, Gathers Strength From Distress and Grows Brave By Reflection

“The real man smiles in trouble, gathers strength from distress, and grows brave by reflection.” – Thomas Paine

Allowing of the context of the mores of the time and circumstances, please extrapolate this to his real meaning, ‘real people with true character’ do these things as is so called for today in the face of contemporary politics including the mishandling and mischaracterization of the handling of the coronavirus.   Many on the left believe that we should not leave any crisis not fully exploitated.  This is a recipe for disaster for our nation and our world.  Let’s not fall for a political ruse and instead manage the events instead of allowing the events to manage us.

Thought For the Day: Losing Your Head In A Crisis Is A Good Way To Become the Crisis

“Losing your head in a crisis is a good way to become the crisis.”  –  C.J. Redwine, Defiance

Please take a moment to review a good general summary of what we currently know about the coronavirus.  This is not a time to panic.  Instead, dear readers, arm yourselves with the best information possible.  I realize that Wikipedia is sketchy at times.  So do not rely just on this information.  From this site, several links are provided.   Keep calm.  Keep rational.   Realize that as bad as it is, it still is not comparable to other death rates from other flu strains this past year alone.

Let’s just keep it together, dear readers and know that there are reasonable steps we can take.  As AlohaPromisesForever gains new information that might be helpful, we promise as always to provide the best that we can as soon as we can to help our friends, readers, loved ones.  This is my duty before God and I will not shirk from it.   When the time to panic hits us, I’ll be the first voice to say it’s time to self isolate and run and provide the best information available on how to endure this without adding to the panicked state of so many already and way too soon.

Please let’s not become a worse crisis by panicking.  It was almost the first thing taught to me a lifetime ago as a junior lifeguard and then a lifeguard.  Nothing gets better through panic.  All things are best faced with and through calm and rational thinking, actions and reactions.  Let’s figuratively join hands together during this time and face this situation through spreading good information and help each other in the coming times ahead be these as positive as I think they will be; or, if worse comes to worse, together to ensure the best available information is disseminated and used wisely.

In the interim, please know that each of you are in my thoughts and prayers and we will come through this.  Have faith and we can move a mountain, surely we can face this as well!  May God bless each and every one of the readers here. This is my prayer for all of us.

Fragments Beyond Authenticity

In the words of Bob Dylan, the times are indeed a-changin’

LEA14: Fragments of Procedural Forest - A Gathering Storm

Fragments Beyond Authenticity
by Michael Doyle

In a world less versed in prophecy
Caught up in its whirl of hypocrisy
The by-word become feigned authenticity
And nothing is scarier than pure honesty

All particles in all places are unified
With this knowledge, science becomes deified
We can now choose our very existence
So, the world tells us with some insistence

Like an angel, you seek your flight
Realizing too late that the descent into night
Crushes with mortal flesh onto the concrete
Bleeding out in your graceless final defeat

A candlelit vigil will not do to restore
Your precious life extinguished as we pour
Our solace poorer than the soul cried out in dreams
The fabric of your truth ripped out at its seams

Too far a fall revealed the flaw
Heard within the raven's final caw
That some things of fatal resilience
Only resemble the sheen of brilliance

Cannonized behind the stained glass windows
Is a revelation of trembled ineuendo
The heat of cold indifference is on display
The sword of His word brings down our day

Sad to know that there no true reality
Just that shift of calculated punctuality
Where time no longer has any real meaning
And each of us are mere fragments of humans being

Words To Feeling

These days with so many choices out there, it seems an endless spiral of restless hearts.  Here’s to those whose hearts have found their home.   I see it in a plethora of friends who have now been married a lifetime.  You all have my utmost admiration!

Home, Sweet, Home -Soft As My Harpist's Melody

Words To Feeling
by Michael Doyle

So many restless souls
Spinning out of control
It's hard to put words to feeling
But living truth is God willing

The path to our happiness
Only two steps from bliss
If we want this to never end
We must not only be lovers but friends

There's a push behind the push-away
The fear of feelings that is not cliche
To be the rock needed for stability
Sometimes defies all our sensibility

Feeling like a walk in wonderland
Trying our best to understand
Followed hearts can be so compelling
When at last, honest is revealing

There in the seeing without seeing
Is the heartbond complexity of humans being
And daring still to give and receive
The very best that we can believe

First Principles: The Bible Teaches Us the Way To Be Happy In This World and In the Next

“The Bible is the best of all books, for it is the word of God and teaches us the way to be happy in this world and in the next. Continue therefore to read it and to regulate your life by its precepts.” – John Jay (1784)
